@TheActionGuyss not really unless you dont have a permit for the lights in wich case the most you'll get is a fine for having them turned on. driving with them turned on without a permit will get you arrested.
Back in the real world (and above the petty bickering), what do the flashing lights allow this car to do that other cars can't? In parts of Europe and all of Oz this car would be pulled over, fined and possibly towed for illegal lighting. Do these fairy lights change the rules in the US?
In America, states allow volunteer firefighters, EMT's, and fire chiefs ect. the rights to use these lights or a siren to respond to and emergency call. Mainly to navigate traffic and roadways.
Various states allow different colors/sirens/traffic laws for emergency personnel responding to a call.
It's complicated to explain in 500 characters, but yeah, these lights actually have a legal purpose to be installed on THIS particular car in whatever state this is in.
Ah, that explains it well (another reply elsewhere turned up an angry nutter). Would there be penalties for the misuse of these lights though? Must be tempting to use them to get around quicker or get slow pokes out of your way.
Yes there are heavy penalties for misusing lights. It is not even the least bit temping to abuse them either, because the punishment is so steep. You could even be looking at jail time for misusing using them in traffic (i.e. just to get somewhere without an emergency) or if you're not authorized to use them by the fire chief or the state police where you reside.
Sweet, thanks for the reply and explanation. If they are state sanctioned with restrictions then that is a good idea...over here in Oz I could see so many of our brain dead signing up for the concept and taking the piss as they do. Such is the dumbing down of our nation.
@blacksoilder10 That scenario is a grey area. I would imagine if your not going a hundred and ten miles an hour the police may cut a break. Usually, the husband thinks that just because his wife is in labor, that that gives him the right to drive like a mad hatter and put the general public in danger along with their lives.
But, it's a grey area and a police officer could probably answer it better than I could.
dude no lie. Need For Speed was all about fast ass super cars duking it out for top spot. Now its lawn mower motored cars and tuners! its bullshit! Need For Speed 4 was the last of the great line.
@ulug89 only if you are driving and sometimes if the car is only running. if an officer approaches you about it. tell him that the instructions say "for show use only" and that your just showing. if ur moving, you'll get a felony impersonating an officer charge.
@Sneadster You need to look up the law a bit more, in most states it's illegal to have the lights on there in the first place without a license/reason. It's called an equipment violation.
@OfficerNelson You're a douche and need to check your laws dumbass. You can buy any color strobe light and legally put them on your vehicle in EVERY state. There are a few laws about running them on the streets in various places if you're not a 1st responder of some sort but you can buy them and put them on your car legally in every state!
@superrhino100 First of all, smartass, most outfitters won't install reds or blues without a badge in ANY state as per company policy. Second of all, if an officer stops you on a public street, whether or not you are operating the lights, it is an equipment violation, at least here in California and most of the inhabited, civilized United States. Third, which is where you're probably coming from, it is impersonation of a peace officer if you operate them on public property/streets.
@OfficerNelson well lets see here douche bag...I think if you read my comment again you will see that I said, "There are a few laws about running them on the streets in various places if you're not a 1st responder of some sort"...you can't even fucking read because you are so fucking stupid. Get your douche bag head out of your douche bag ass! CA Statutes 25250-25282 detail the use of ANY flashing light on a vehicle in CA...not a word about it being totally illegal to have them on your vehicle!
@superrhino100 I looked up the relevant statutes in the California Vehicle Code for you (because I'm naturally a nice person). In California, it is illegal to operate an emergency vehicle on a public road if you are not an emergency responder, emergency vehicle being defined as one with any flashing or steady red or blue lights (with the exception of tail lights), regardless of whether they are operating.
@superrhino100 Oh, also forgot that if the lights are covered up with an object that cannot be removed while the vehicle is in motion (i.e. a simple black bag-like cover for a lightbar) or if the lights are not visible, if turned on, from the exterior of the vehicle at any time of day, it is not technically an emergency vehicle.
@OfficerNelson well now this is just a cop out from a douche bag! You said that no matter what it was flat out illegal to have them on your vehicle in CA. You said it was an "equipment violation" even if they weren't hooked up. Of course we all know you're a liar about it anyways considering you turned around and said "most" places won't install them if you aren't a 1st responder. If it was illegal then no shop would put them on at all for any reason! Go back to your internet troll hole shitbag!
@superrhino100 You can't read either, apparently. I said if a cop stops you, whether or not they are operating, it is an equipment violation. I didn't say if they were disconnected (although it still would be an equipment violation, but it would be easily defeated in court) or if you were on public property (because we all know cops are allowed to barge into private property to run equipment violation checks) that it's still illegal.
@superrhino100 It is not illegal to sell lights or install them. It is illegal to have them mounted in a visible location on your vehicle. Therefore, most outfitters just simply won't install reds or blues on POV's without a badge or some form of identification. It's called "common sense". If you let any asshole come in and turn their car into a christmas tree, you'd be enabling them to perform illegal activities and you may be liable in court. So please, if you're just going to argue, leave.
@superrhino100 said douchebag has a point dipshit....According to MY state law you cannot have ANY lights mounted in a visible location LIT OR NOT unless you are a confirmed, towtruck driver, construction driver, or emergency responder. DISPLAY OR NOT, its a ticketable offense. So i suggest you STFU and learn your local laws. Even your township will probably have a law against lights.
@toboe399 and what state is that douche bag? Because I have the statutes for all 50 pulled up on google right now and not a single one of them says its illegal to have them on your vehicle.
@superrhino100 really now? and seeing as you LOVE the word DOUCHEBAG i guess that means you have a fetish for them. Be the bigger man or should i say moronic child playing big man, and Look at Illinois Vehicle code (625 ILCS 5/12‑215) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12‑215) Sec. 12‑215. CLEARLY stating, they are PROHIBITED unless you are certain types of vehicles. I would post it here, but it does stretch a good few paragraphs...that I highly doubt you with your ignorance will read
@toboe399 Actually it details is exactly the same BS that the CA statute I posted does...at any point during an "emergency" ANY vehicle on the road can have strobes an can be used as warning lights to warn oncoming traffic. ANY vehicle is allowed to do this, they just can't run with them on while they are driving unless they are a 1st responder of some sort. Now go continue to be the douche bag you are and get a fucking life. You people have nothing better to do than leave negative comments here
@superrhino100 If you noticed...I said nothing negative about the video. Go back to your douche fetish. I do suggest you learn manners before you say the wrong thing to the wrong person and get your ass kicked or worse killed. You seem to love calling people douches. And since i can talk, walk, and eat, that doesn't qualify me to be a cleansing device of the female anatomy. Good day you child that will never make it in life.
Also, I do believe this debate was about DISPLAY lights not about emergency vehicles. Seeing as it was about DISPLAY lights, I am the winner of the debate
@superrhino100 Hey, fuckwad, I thought I already told you that California is not one of the 50 Unreal States of America that you claim don't have laws against emergency lights on vehicles. You even pointed out the vehicle code sections that apply - C.V.C. 25250-25282. Did you even read them?
@OfficerNelson Just like I had to point out before...ANY vehicle in ANY state is allowed to have "flashing lights" to warn oncoming traffic in case of an "emergency" PERIOD. What I listed details that to the fucking letter, I had to take a test on these laws because I work for a medical transportation company that transports various people, organs and organ donor bodies. We cross state lines back an forth daily and use lights & sirens daily. I talk to CHP officers daily and they agree shitbag!!
@superrhino100 Negative comments? You were the one that started the argument with your offensive, profane language and vehement disagreements with the Vehicle Code.
I don't care if you're the President, it is still illegal to drive an emergency vehicle if you are not an emergency vehicle operator. Which you ARE. Congratulations. Also, it is illegal to use any other color than amber in an unusual traffic situation or red in an extreme danger situation. Extreme danger doesn't mean "feel like it".
