awesome job on this, i've been working on a tablet integration into my 06 tacoma but it hasn't gone the smoothest. for OBDII i use a bluetooth adapter from ebay and a app called torque, it works great. android has the potential to be a great automotive infotainment system, just waiting for someone to come out with a good product...supporting bluetooth handsfree and hardware volume control is a big one for me that's still missing. swype keyboard would be a good addition to this setup as well
@iggihk It isn't too hard to set that up. I just need a relay from either the reverse light or the gear-lever to send a signal to a background service to start the app. Didn't have the time or equipment at the time.
i'm develiping similar product on cortex-a9 ARM , 7" liliput TS and arduino. It;d be either android or meego platform, Aprat from standard features like GPS, multimedia and cameras it;ll include TPMS, climate control, OBD2, Hands free , sensors(parking, doors), gyro/acel, etc. Let get in touch we can do something great together. mic4eal[ a] gmail .com
@akshar100 Speed is read from the GPS currently. It is still possible to read from the ODB some data such as speed, RPM etc. You just need an ODB-II interface (by Bluetooth SPP would be the simplest approach).
@CEWAbenteuern: Yes. It was a blank development board. Most work required kernel customization and getting the hardware to interface with Android. I got a lot of help from the open-source community though.
@doobiest420: This isn't really an 'installable' system for your typical CarPC setup. This runs on ARM and has specific modules to the hardware specifications for this board. It was developed for research.

It will be great if the camera can be automatically activated when the car is put on reverse.

Is it capable of actually talking to the car or is it like a tablet kept in the car ?
Can you read the vehicle speed directly from the vehicle ?
