  • Hard to imagine that it's just water vapour.

  • @123eldest It's interesting that a lot of people don't realize just how much water vapor is contained in a smoke plume, but it sure is more visible when it condenses and turns white at the higher altitudes... THanks for checking it out! =)

  • dude the plane is fucking lost:P

  • Fantastically!!!!!

  • Thanks! =)

  • i remember that formation!!!

  • It was quite a sight! Thanks for stopping by =)

  • that day is my b-day :D

  • Killer....the time lapse really conveys the sense of movement within the smoke that is hard to see at actual speed. Bravo!

  • I liked the plane flying laps around the valley, too. The time lapse definitely shows a lot of interesting things! Thanks for watching :-)

  • Your video is fantastic, there is not an adjective to define it; the music is spectacular, colors are great!

  • What an amazing spectacle!!! Awesome!!

  • Yep - it was quite a sight and it went on for over a week. Thanks for checking it out!

  • smoke video or UFO video lol

  • Hahahaa yea - it sort of looks like it, but in this case the pilot of that UFO is a YouTube user! (Fyrpylit) XD

  • This is an incredible video.....You really captured an awesome moment in our experience. Great Work.....Keep it up

    Peace

  • I shot probably 50 clips/sequences during this event - it was a spectacular sight and I'm glad I was able to get a few good ones. Thanks for checking it out! :-)

  • inCREDIBLE.

  • Thanks, Baby! :-)

  • who's your baby?

  • That's Baby Smith... Check her out - she's cute, talented, funny... and plays a mean Ukulele! :-)

  • Where at? just search it?

  • Just click her username link above: artworkslive :-)

  • Its a Turbo Commander 690A. We were based at Fox in Lancaster. (I have been released from the fire and am heading home Sat AM to await the next one)

Tail number N24GT. I slow to 140-150 knots when "turning circles" as we call it. When I need to get up and go, I have the thrust available that takes me up to 290 knots. To calculate statute MPH multiply knots by 1.14

  • Eyes and ears of the incident commander. Functions as a sort of AWACS over the fire coordinating tankers/helicopters, contact with ground personnel. Identifies hazards, targets, objectives. Implements daily priorities from IC

  • Interesting - thanks for the info! It DID look more to me like aerial observation than anything else - especially with the apparently very low airspeed and upwind flight pattern. Out of curiousity what was the aircraft type and airspeed?

  • Do you see that plane circling the smoke plume? Thats me. I am the Air Attack Pilot on the Statiom Fire

  • I counted around 10 complete circles... I what that was all about. I figured either tanker or observation. Was that a DC-10?

  • you need to go back to school if you think i'm wrong with what I'm talking about. The fire is not in forest. But im not going to get into it with you. your probably one of the dumb asses who would stay and try to protect his house when a wild fire comes. I really do feel sorry for people like you who think they know everything about wild fires. have a good one. im done talking about this.

  • I know you didn't answer the question. You're wrong about the Station Fire in the National FOREST, AND the fact that fire DOES burn well above 6000'. You've probably never even BEEN in the San Gabriel Mountains. The facts contradict your so-called knowledge. Stop feeling sorry and start backing up what you say intelligent FACTUAL answers instead of name calling and your "I know better than you" factless posts. Explain yourself, if you can...

  • It seems like you don't know much about fires, I have a degree in fire science and i work for cal fire. so take it from me it would be very hard for a fire to breath the high up. people and fire are way different, people have lungs, fire need air to breath and theirs not much up there. even people have hard time of breathing that far up.

  • I sure hope you're not doing anything related to public safety. You have no clue what you're talking about!

I have personally had a nice campfire going at Saddlebag Lake (at 10,000 feet elevation) in the Sierras, with no problem. Fires may burn with less intensity at higher altitudes but they DO burn. How do you explain the well documented forest fires at 15,000 in the Himalayas?

Seriously, go get a better degree at different school. The one you have didn't work.

  • haha what a smart guy. so apparently there is no reason for a fire department, fire extinguishers, even smoke alarms in a place like denver, colorado for instance...

  • Hahahah I also have to wonder what "cal fire" is... I WON'T be hiring them for any fire safety work XD

  • Amazing video. I've been watching this fire from outside of my house here in West Covina but watching these videos really shows the power and intensity this fire has. Im hope the best for those brave firefighters and the work they are doing.

    Great vid again.

  • Thanks for watching and commenting :-) This fire was 15-20 miles away from me and STILL it was very impressive. I can only imagine how these 20,000' pyro cumulus towers must have looked from the edge of the fire! :-O

  • the fire is not 6000 feet up in the mountains. a fire that high up in the mountain wouldn't be able to breath.

  • Forest fires can burn up to at least 4900 meters (15,000 feet) altitude. Ref: Tibet forest fires in the Himalayas, March 2009. Google it, you'll see. Please get your facts straight. You're giving people bad information.

  • If a person can breathe at 6,000 feet, I'm sure a fire could.

  • Great video..

I was on the front lines

    during this ty

    please check out my vids

  • i wonder how this will affect the atmosphere with all that gas released

  • Yea - it does make you wonder. Thanks for checking it out!

  • do you know what a forest fire is, the station fire was not a forest fire, it was a brush fire. big difference

  • Have you ever been to the ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST in the San Gabriel Mountains? Yes, it has many brushy areas at lower altitudes, but go visit Mt. Gleason or any other place there above 6000'. If there's any of it left after this fire, you'll see that it has more than enough Pine and other tree density to easily qualify as a forest.

  • You're not kidding - I've taken Angeles Forest Highway all the way through a number of times and been up to Gleason too - there's plenty of classic Pine forest up there, not to mention Oak, Sycamore and Cottonwood forest habitat down lower. It's great bug-hunting territory (or at least, it WAS) ...and some of those peaks are 8000 feet+ elevation.

    Thanks for posting! =)

  • Can we all wake up now?The Socal fires of summer 2009 were the work of Jihadis using paid illegals or local sleepers. They wiped out a large piece of the landscape, wrecked the health of many, and destroyed lives and property just as in 911.They found a soft target.

  • why are you putting the same comment on every video of this fire???

  • Everyone has grown complacent about homegrown terrorism and the fires are a classic example of what they do. DUH !!

  • eh, its possible.

  • Cool shot! Looks great on HD!

  • The 1080p version is even better - I hope to release all this footage on Blue-Ray some time in the future. :-)

  • After seeing a good number of other T/L Station Fire videos, yours is the best. I was shocked to see how many views it is getting- very cool!

  • Thanks! Yes, I was surprised how fast that one took off. I saw some pretty cool uploads from other viewers - a few I was quite envious of! I just finished uploading the compilation of all the best footage I filmed during this event. I'll be curious to see if the public is still interested or if it's already "old news" by now!

  • Everyone has such a short-term memory these days. Not sure if you saw the one T/L video on the Featured Videos- the one where the photographer carefully set up his camera to film 3.5 hours- and ended up getting a great shot of a big street light pole across the street with the smoke in the background. Maybe I'm just too critical.... "Featured Videos..." meh!

  • Hahahaha! XD No, I didn't see that one... and it got featured, too? XD OK, yes it's true - there's some real junk getting huge hit counts... I guess there's no accounting for taste and quality where the general public is concerned - maybe there's a certain amount of bot and random-selected material, just to try and keep from playing favorites too much with the big guys. Dunno, but it IS interesting!

  • Oh yeah, they featured that blunder. I'm thinking to myself, "You didn't SEE that street light in the middle of the frame when you set up your camera?" It's unbelievable- the garbage YT pushes on the front page. But.... perhaps indirectly, it somehow directed viewers to find your work. Maybe there is some justice.

  • Same day I saw this plume from the hills of Moorpark 30 miles away and it could have been a nuclear mushroom cloud.

    Incredible sight to see live.

  • I would think it should be pretty amazing from there! Do shoot and upload some video for us to see :-)

  • man fucken california always burning up and shit wtfuck

  • Bro I am so happy to see your videos getting the views!

Hope you are doing awesome! Awesome video and music friend!

    -dj mastervolume

  • Thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, doing well, so long as that fire stays well to the east! Have a great day :-)

  • Great colors.

  • Thanks! Under exposure and a polarizing filter help a lot with saturation. :-)

  • Nice video - how do you make HD time lapses?

  • I use a digital still camera to shoot the pictures, one at a time, then make all the still images into video using software.

  • What size do you take the pictures in?

  • Anywhere from 2272x1704 to 3648x2736, depending upon conditions and what it is I am shooting.

  • And later do you resize it? (which seems to take quite some time for me)

  • Crop and scale (again, depending on what I am shooting) - yes it is VERY time consuming!

  • Here in LA the smoke plumes seem like they're not moving...... :/

  • Right now there's almost no wind at all in this area - so the smoke is probably rising straight up and "pooling" around the source. It's been totalling overcast with smoke plume most of the day here in Santa Clarita, but oddly, there isn't much smoke or ashfall at ground level. It's pretty weird

  • Gosh. I'm praying for the people in your area. Are you safe from harm? I hope so.

  • what the thing spinning in the sky?

  • It was a large, 767-sized jet aircraft circling the west side of the fire - about 7 times around before it finally left the area. Dunno what it was up to...

  • Could it have been Evergreen's 747 supertanker?

  • It was about that size, but it only had two engines... Could have the DC-10 tanker.

It was flying VERY slowly, and at a high angle of attack. It didn't seem like something an airliner would do, even if loiting near Burbank A/P awaiting clearence. It made 7 very wide, slow circles west of the fire, then headed south and out of my view.

  • Awesome video!

  • Thanks so much for watching and the nice comment! :-)

  • Your welcome!! and thanks!!

  • I remember seeing it from the 605, it looked like a mushroom cloud!

  • I saw a number of those - pretty scary-looking!

  • i remember seeing it from my house a bit after sunset. looked like a star destroyer =p

  • I've seen some pretty interesting shapes in cloud formations... I have one video on my JCMDIStockFootage channel that looks like the next generation Starship Enterprise!

  • Ottimo!!!!

    Giuliano

  • Thanks so much!

  • wow this is fantastic..the skies in colorado have been eerie from this..the sunshine and moonlight both have looked red. thanks for this video

  • I've been hearing of smoke effects from your area - just amazing! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)

  • INCREDIBLE pictures :O awesome 5/5

  • Some amazing sights around here to shoot - thanks for checking it out! :-)

  • Thank you for these beautiful pictures ;) is amazing to watch this intense form clouds of smoke at their peaks, the cool air in the upper layers of the atmosphere that helped the fire itself convection and moisture generated by the natural fuel (trees, shrubs and other plants) grow these clusters are in some cases, they form thunderstorms :).

  • I live up in San Luis Obispo and I have ashes on my car (and I'm 3 hours away from LA!)

  • That's amazing! I keep hearing reports from all over the southwestern states about ashfall from this fire! Thanks for the info =)

  • No problem. I also been hearing that Colorado has been really affected by this (the sun looks really red there.)

The only thing that's probably affecting us from the fire is that it has pushed the marine layer away from us (I'm by the beach) and because of that, it's really hot over here.

I'm assuming you live in LA. Please take care and God Bless!

  • All of these are very nicely done! I am so sorry for those who have lost their homes. But I've said it before - when you choose to live in a desert, no matter how breath-taking your view is to do so, you have to live with desert wildfires. Southern California is predominantly desert.

  • It seems like no matter where one lives, there's always SOME sort of natural disaster waiting to happen - floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, ect. I guess no one ever said life is a safe occupation!! Thanks for watching and commenting =)

  • thats very impressive for a wild fire, there must be alot of fuel to that thing.

  • They're saying there's at least 40 years of old-growth fuel up there - it's no wonder it's so intense!

  • i saw the ufo

  • ITS A VOLCANO!

  • Sure looks like one!

  • woow...have you seen also all the airplanes flying around there? :D

  • I think it was mostly one 767-sized jet making 7 or more circles. Dunno what it was up to, though!

  • this fire made me get sick :(

    lol

  • I've been hearing of a LOT people getting sick from all the smoke. Hope you get better soon!

  • that is some crazy shit

    nicely filmed

hope they get it under control soon

  • Me too. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • The plume was recorded as high as 20,000 feet. That is high enough to get the smoke to nebraska.

  • I was wondering about that. It's hard to estimate from ground level without triangulation and such. Thanks for the info! =D

  • You're an idiot.

  • I live in Colorado and there is some haze blowing in from the fires. I'm thinking about you guys in L.A. Hope it's over soon!

  • I'm amazed that it's getting that far! Thanks for the thoughts and info =)

  • FIRE!!!!!!

  • Spectacular! The time lapse gives an amazing visual of what it's REALLY doing. I checked out the other footage too, (wasn't aware of the other channel), and it even further elevates how monstrous it is. Superb photography, as always.

  • I've always loved time lapse just because of that! Thanks for the great comment! :-)

  • Any chance hurricane Jimena, can bring much needed rain?

My heart goes out to every one in LA and I pray for the safety for the brave firefighters. They are real Heroes.

  • I'm hoping we'll get at least a LITTLE rain from that, but it's pretty rare that hurricanes make it this far north and still have anything left in them besides a lot of high clouds. Thanks for the thoughts! =)

  • I live about 80 miles from that fire. You can't even see the mountians that surround the valley anymore. That far and this morning my car was covered in ashes.

  • It's amazing how far the smoke and ash is traveling! Thanks for the report :-)

  • love this! i love that like all your videos are from where i'm from so i have an idea where everything is in the videos xDD

  • I always found it interesting to see other footage from this area as well - seems to give it more "value" in some ways if it's familiar. Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • am i right?

  • Wildfires are indeed a natural event, if they start naturally. But many of our fires are intentionally set by people.

There is some controversy about fire suppression actually making natural wildfires more intense and dangerous, due to the un-natural build-up of old-growth vegatation (fuel). The best protection against fires would probably be to build more fire-proof structures, perhaps out of steel and concrete rather than wood and tar paper.

  • n2c. to ansewr your'e question. i think all of them are being caused because cailifornia is the wildfire state i call and its being caused naturaly. think of this. as the oppsoite of nature doing nature's work for her/whatever it is

  • What's causing all the fires?

  • Many of CA's fires are set by arsonists, although sometimes they start by lightning, winds blowing trees down into power lines, car fires on the side of the road, etc. One thing for sure - we sure do have a LOT of them!

  • nice spacey new age music..LOL

  • I just sat down and played that one day. Experimental stuff, like most of my music! XD

  • Thank God that the winds came from the south!!!

  • Seems like it's been switching around lately - giving just about everbody a dose some some degree!

  • notice the birds flying around in circles many times lol

  • It's kind of hard to see unless you watch it in HD full-screen, but that's actually a 767-sized jet circling just to the west of the fire! Not sure what it was up to, but it was getting a great view from there!

  • how far away are you taping from? ive never seen anything of this scale in person...it's mind blowing

  • This was shot from roughly 10-15 miles away and even at that range the plume was huge!

  • Its look like a volcanic smoke

  • I was thinking the same thing while I was filming - pretty amazing sights to see in person..

  • you have way to much time on your hands...

  • I wish there were more hours in the day... So much more I could be doing!

  • its a setting. its not like hes sitting there taking pictures the whole time

  • Whatever; they are spending that time recording history. Many of us seem to have the time to waste to view the footage. ;)

  • Yeah..

  • if you want to make humorous comments, go ahead, it's a free country. but it strikes me as unbelievably immature and very inappropriate. people have lost their lives already, countless homes are in danger, and massive amounts of beautiful wilderness is being destroyed.

  • this is why i want to move to seattle

  • LOL.

    the helicopters/airplanes looks reallly tiny.

T^T i really hope the fire goes out soon....

and i pray for the families of the two firefighters thata died!

  • What's really amazing is that little tiny-looking airplane that keeps circling is actually a 767-sized jet! Really puts the huge size of that smoke cloud in perspective. Thanks for watching :-)

  • Crap! Some firemen have already died!?

  • Yea - two were killed when their vehicle went off the road in heavy smoke. A number of structures/houses have been lost as well. It's been a rough one...

  • two actually

  • 0:14 airplane.

  • those were airplanes man and thats comming from a believer in ufo's

  • Yup - if viewers watch it in HD and freeze the vid they can see it pretty clearly - a 767-size jet aircraft! :-)

  • Amazing how it is so hard to fight the fire when it first started small...

Anyways yeah that place gets burnt all the time...

  • did you guys see all those UFOs?!?! wholly shit!! they were going crazy!

  • i kno lol!!!

  • excellent photography skills, man!

  • Thanks so much for the great comment! :-)

  • Wind must have switched again - it was right over us (Santa Clarita) this morning. Hope they get it out soon!

  • We have it in Los Angeles also

  • Its called the pretty wildfire. Once there was a pretty wildfire. It was so massive and pretty that everyone in california died. The End

  • i live 300-350 miles away from the fire and it is easily visible....

  • Wow - I had no idea it was visible from that far away! :-O

  • UFO at 0:15!!!

  • Pause, its a plane.

  • That UFO is what we call a bug...

  • dumbass its a plane its going so fast cause of the fast forward

  • Very awesome bro, sick

Btw how much was the camera+lense that you used for that?

  • I shot this with a stock Canon SX10-is, got it at Wal-Mart online (seriously - stop laughing! XD) for under $400 :-)

It's a decent camera, AND the firmware is hackable with CHDK... very cool.

  • errr where my comment go of me asking why the sky in this video looks blue like it really used to be in the 1980"s?.

anyways you said you used a filter because i asked why it was so blue in this because its not blue like that anymore.

so yes the sky used to be this blue a lot of days. dont let anyone say different to you because it was. big difference huh....

  • Yer comment is still there - but it's back a ways now... been gettin a LOT of activity on this vid.

Yep - I seem to remember a less hazy, more blue sky from 20 years ago, too. Too much fargin' pollution most likely.

It's still a nice deep blue sometimes in winter, right after heavy rains but rarely in the summer when it's dry and hot.

  • thanks man. glad you agreed. 8) take care and dont get roasted out there!. 8)

  • all this smoke and haze is drifting over to colorado. i can barely see my own mountain range. DAMNIT! just kidding its to bad thats doing some real damage over there

  • lol not really a lot of damage but yea its doing some damage

we can breathe but like 128,000 acres have burned so yea its done a whole mess of damage

  • well there are fire stoppers but what was smokey the bear for well he's working hes suppose to stop not create them why smokey why

  • I live in los angelees

  • You could probably see this fire fairly well from there, depending whether there are mountains inthe way or not.

  • That plane circled around like a million times... i bet it was like a news plane or something like that....send a sky full of those choppers that carry the water and just put it out that way. but the smoke will billow...use dirt....

  • i bet plane at 0:30 was like WAHT?!?!?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • well, 2 things. 1. california has wildfires naturally, and you can't stop arsonists. 2. Firefighting choppers do not have "capsules", and the retardent doesn't suffocate the flames. Dry chem powder extinguishers and CO2 suffocate flames, but, if we dropped that, we'd have alot of dead people on our hands, so that doesn't work. I agree on killing arsonists, but its impossible to live in a wildfire free california. thats why we have the forest service and LACoFD. And, arson investigators.

  • mikeloire04 it wasnt started by us. the temparutes were wayyyyy to high. i live in NY but i saw the news and it said it was like in the 100's. even 110 degrees.
