That's bullshit. Racist is not about power. That's blacks "own" personal definition of racist so that they can't say they're racist, but they are the most racist bunch around the globe.
What I've learned is that racism is a type of prejudice and the belief of other race stereotypes and degradations while racial discrimination is the denial of rights to minority races. Soooo yeah, she's definitely a racist thinking dark skinned British people aren't British, but she didn't have the power to discriminate against them, she's not the govt, she can't kick them out of the country. It's a good thing she was powerless in her situation, she's a real idiot.
Racism to me is a type of prejudice. Where prejudice generally refers to negative judgement that people form, racism is a specific kind of prejudice that's based on ethnicity (as opposed to other kinds of prejudice such as sexism or elitism). There doesn't need to be any power behind racism, just the belief that you're better (or should hold more privilege) than another group based on ethnicity. The power simply makes racism more dangerous.
On the subject though, I'm British and I am so passionately against prejudice and racism. This video actually made me feel genuinely angry. I don't understand why people are like that. It just doesn't occur to me why black people are seen to some as a minority or as a sub species. It just makes me so angry that someone from my country, from my race has shown such vile and disgusting behaviour in public. It really paints us in an un flattering light. Ugh.
Just followed the link and saw the video. It's vile, and I have to say she's a tarnish on the human race. However, I disagree with you a bit- I think the assumption that racism implies political power confuses the issue. Institutionalized racism DOES, which is the major stronghold of racism, but the institution has to come from somewhere and where it comes from is racist assumptions and people. Thats why so called reverse racism is still just racism. One can be racist and have no power.

He is saying take a look at the larger issues of immigration, social welfare, personal prejudice, racisim and how these apply and inform the situation. I've had farily good tram experiences in my life time, the leaves are usually turning orange when I go on the tram, but then generally a pretty open crows can usually be found at Sundance, odd because it's close to Utah county which has one of the highest level of republicans in the country, which can be difficult when you are liberal

Her being in poverty or not does not effect if she can be racist. Racism is when you discriminate someones race which clearly did so you don't need to be in a certain powerful position to discriminate someone.
Political boundaries is an interesting issue but it's actually a series of elephants, not just one. I think the biggest one of the series is "can all opinions be expressed equally?", i.e. protesting. As being a connoisseur of many of these opinions and even 'theories', particularly about sovereignty, I would say addressing "tax protesters" really cuts to the heart of this issue and coincidentally enough many of these types are called racists by various institutions but never individuals.

Sadly i experienced a similar situation in one of our trams. But the "racist" in this scene was an old man which i think stopped learning new things at some point...he couldn't stand a afro american being in the same tram with him and he kind of "fell" out of the tram when the doors opened at the station,HE bumbed into the afro american(on purpose) and then shouted at the guy "how DARE you hit me you filthy bastard"...after he tried to hit him i called the police. But i still was shocked.
@SomehowCreative wow that is extremely disgusting behavior by the old man...I've never experienced anything like that in Canada and I hope never to do so. Of course we still have remnants of racism but for the most part Canadians have learned to celebrate the mosaic of different ethnicities that make up our country. You know if I am on a train and someone is very loud, maybe just talking really loud or shouting to his friend 3 seats back for some weird reason, I feel unsafe. I really do. I think it has to do with that, it's not normal behaviour for someone to do that in public (if everone were going around screaming at eachother it would be a different story). Political boundaries is an interesting issue but it's actually a series of elephants, not just one. I think the biggest one of the series is "can all opinions be expressed equally?", i.e. protesting. As being a connoisseur of many of these opinions and even 'theories', particularly about sovereignty, I would say addressing "tax protesters" really cuts to the heart of this issue and coincidentally enough many of these types are called racists by various institutions but never individuals.

Sadly i experienced a similar situation in one of our trams. But the "racist" in this scene was an old man which i think stopped learning new things at some point...he couldn't stand a afro american being in the same tram with him and he kind of "fell" out of the tram when the doors opened at the station,HE bumbed into the afro american(on purpose) and then shouted at the guy "how DARE you hit me you filthy bastard"...after he tried to hit him i called the police. But i still was shocked.

@SomehowCreative wow that is extremely disgusting behavior by the old man...I've never experienced anything like that in Canada and I hope never to do so. Of course we still have remnants of racism but for the most part Canadians have learned to celebrate the mosaic of different ethnicities that make up our country. Our government does a great job of denouncing any hateful or racist behavior and instead promotes a very peaceful environment. I'm glad I was born here :)

@ravenhaired20 Yes :( It was my first time too.This behavior is also illegal in Germany. It's in our Basic Constitutional Law. I grew up with the knowledge or more the attitude that every person should be treated equaly. I couldn't imagine a Germany with just..well...dunno,Whites or whatever...only Germans. You know if I am on a train and someone is very loud, maybe just talking really loud or shouting to his friend 3 seats back for some weird reason, I feel unsafe. I really do. I think it has to do with that, it's not normal behaviour for someone to do that in public (if everone were going around screaming at eachother it would be a different story). So because of that, the enviroment around me, and my other fellow train riders lol, becomes "unstable" I guess.

She is right in some way. There are way more immigrants in the big cities like london, brussels, .. then there are people from that country.
If you have money and you move to another country and get a job there, its ok.
But if you are poor and immigrate to another country to benefit from the social security without working, you shouldn't be allowed in that country.

@Daxmau5 for the most part immigrants work extremely hard in order to provide for their families and move to countries like England, Canada etc because of the various opportunities available there (not only the social security)...my dad started with almost nothing when he came to Canada but studied hard and now works in a very prestigious law firm...I guess you would consider him wealthy and thus by your definition he should be "allowed to settle there"but think of the steps involved first...
