@leujiat I wonder if you checked your ears long ago? I'm just curious what so beautiful you can here in this version? I'm not even talking about his shallow, empty INTERPRETATION with all this fake emotion and intelligence, with no soul whatsoever. The quality of this recording is just awful! Can you hear?! It's just a hoarse, husky voice in the best case due to a severe cold. In this case an artist should cancel his concerts and have his throat treated! Even the placement of the mike is wrong!
@LaciSusman Have you heard ALL the artists in the world then and can compare them if you are so sure that this empty promoted image of a sexless creature, boy-for-ever with a teenage voice who can only produce sweet empty sounds is the "greatest living artist"?! Don't you feel yourself that such declarations who is the greatest living artist are just stupid as how many people, so many opinions! Have you ever heard true countertenors like Cencic, Kowalski, Lesne, Scholl, Chance, Bowman, Daniels?
@LaciSusman Can I ask you why? What do you find in him? Well, nowadays, an artist already shouldn't be great anymore to be promoted. It's all left in the past. Quite on the contrary! The worse he is the better for the promotion! Philippe Jaroussky is just the "brightest" representative of the grey mass! When you listen to him you feel that he is no better than you? It's so attractive? Sorry, but I'm not interested in it. I want to listen to true artists who make me a better person! He is a fake!
@serenaluce - what's your problem, actually? if you don't like him, stop bothering other people who does. don't listen to him anymore, is that simply as that and stop posting your mischievous comments regarding Philippe Jaroussky everywhere on youtube. promote the artists you like but please leave people enjoy what they feel like.
@morgenstimmung08 What's YOUR problem, actually? I'm not promoting anyone. There's such an option on YT to discuss different rentions and share opinions. People do it all the time in any artist's videos if you haven't noticed it yet. If I say that e.g. Graham's version is much better than PJ's showing real emotions and soul am I'm promoting her? Oh, be just objective, PJ is so OVERpromoted and has so many videos on YT that it's IMPOSSIBLE to post even all positive comments EVERYWHERE ON YOUTUBE!
@morgenstimmung08 ohh, I agree so much with you, it just bothers me so much to read this everywhere, considering, that it doesn't really influence somebody's opinion, but just annoys.
@TheNightListener Oh, I can't agree with you here. If it bothers you SO much to read my comments it's only YOUR problem and not MINE. You have such a good solution - just not to read them! It's so easy! Actually, you don't understand at all the conception of YT. It's been created to give people an opportunity to DISCUSS, ARGUE, REPLY to each other. If they didn't want it it would be only one option "comment". Besides, NEGATIVE ones are allowed too. I'm not INFLUENCING to buy. I'm not PROMOTER!
I fully agree with you here! Impossible to describe Spanos's unbelievable singing better than you!:-) All his pieces on YT are gems! We have so lucky that Plavos posted them and we have an opportunity to discover for ourselves Nicholas Spanos - his great and unique artistry!
It's so nice to meet a person who understands what true art is! Both Nicholas Spanos's versions are really other-worldy! Like his other Hahn's masterpieces - L'enamoure'e and L'infidelite'!
Gave me chills to watch this. This really was beautiful and I could listen to his beautiful voice over and over and over!!! I only hope that I can do ths well at my recitals!
well, well...fabulous music...not so sure about that. the music has a nice "sound carpet", but really that's all! i don´t object to entertainment in music, as long as we don't call it something it isn´t: that is: great music. Schubert is, Schumann is and Brahms most definetly is, but this isn´t!
Well, I won't argue if you're pulling out names like Schubert and Schumann, since every art song created since them has certainly been influenced by them. They were the best! But I also think it's honestly still too soon to really downplay the Impressionists like Hahn. It hasn't even been a century yet...
It is so tiring to read these kind of comments. These two great counter tenors have worked so hard, and luckily they probably don't read those stupid and mean comments here. They work for years to give beauty and some frustrated being comes along and distributes his appreciations in one click. There is plenty of room for beauty, and I don't see that one has to push over the other to exist.I hope they all keep making us feel better about this selfish and thoughtless world.
Actually I did not mean to comment under your comment particularly, as you are not the only one on this thread who compares artists. It fell on you, I'm sorry. Move over though in my vocabulary does mean : make room, out the way. Frustration does have a sexual root but does not express just that either.

Well, you might find one of your points undermined by looking at a piece by Arvo Part. Magnificent, but didn't LOOK beautiful as a score? Thats a bizarre qualification in the first place. But how about this?- Just like between people, the beauty is in the relationship of the elements. Some relationships are great, some small, some complex and interesting, some simple and straightforward. But then there are bad relationships too. Cheap relationships. Superficial relationships.
Unless the music is genuinely appallingly bad and deserves a little admonition, yes, I am in favor of trying to enjoy music you enjoy, and avoid music you don't.

monsieur philippe's singig is excellent of course, but I also need to say how much I love the piano's melody - it is absolutely haunting (in a very good way) - a truly beautiful and inspired piece of music
This is so touching! Just relax and stop comparing to Graham for God's sake! There's an innocence in Jaroussky's voice that isn't there with mezzos. Jaroussky is also French, unlike Graham. Graham is a great artist, but her sound gets too swallowed toward the secondo passaggio and into her head. She tries too hard to be a mezzo by darkening her sound. Anyway - enough about Graham...Philippe is gorgeous!
Hope you can reupload this video and some of the others. YouTube now allows up to one gig per video so you can upload higher specs on the audio and video too. Love to discover his work! Thanks for posting.
I never thought much about this singer until I saw this clip. This is one of the most beautiful performances I have heard. I would love to hear more of him in the repertoire which really gives him a chance to sing and show the beauty of his voice as opposed to the tricks and gimmicks he generally only shows. This is stunning... can listen to it over and over.
I really would like some ones of you on the stage, singing or performing, searching...some of you are very critics and destructive. homofobic and no tolerant. I apreciate le nice intention and specially the cuallity and the serious work ..every body try to work serious just the critict are frustrates and never in calm with they own.
I'll agree that Susan Graham is incredible with the Hahn songs, but Jaroussky's voice is unique and beautiful. I wasnt even aware of Hahn's songs until earlier this year at a live recital by David Daniels in Berkeley. Now that was "the bomb". David's gorgeous, full voice is awesome and discovering Hahn's music for the first time in an intimate setting (I was in the 2nd row) inspired me to get the sheet music for A Chloris and learn in on my harpsichord. Bravo Reynaldo Hahn!
I know that the poet who wrote this poem is bisexual, but I think the text is meant to be sung by a man (unless chloris is a guy name in french?) ? And when I look in youtube, no men in the tenor/baritone/bass range had sung this song. But my question is, is the singable by both men and women in their own range?
You know, it's great you like someone else better. So compliment him on his video. Maybe I like this, maybe I like that, but on each video, accept what each person has to offer. Critique them, compliment them, but leave other people out of it.
I have no idea why you found my comparison of Jaroussky's and Cutler's performances inappropriate. The several mentions of other performers of "Chloris" on this site must seem downright perverse to you. Surely it's possible for you to enjoy the Jaroussky version without being condescending to those who are drawn to other versions and simply point out their preference.
Jérôme Ducros, he is usually the pianist of Jaroussky in French melodies. You can see him also in Jaroussky's performance of "Mi lusinga" in French TV.
You got it ! Susan Graham is the bomb with these songs. One of best Cds in my collection. Makes everyone else sound like a garbage disposal. You need to get her CD of Songs of Ned Rorem as well, if you don't already have it. WELL worth any amount.
Greetings from Guadalajara, México. I am a voice teacher and pianist here in Guadalajara and very much enjoyed your "Ah! Chloris". Congrats. Please come visit us in Guadalajara. Tim
I disagree.Did you hear The CD A quiet Thing by David Daniels? I think Philippe could very well sing melodies accommpanied by piano like this, it is just another facet to his Vivaldian repertory.
This is not Vivaldi, just for the record, This belongs to Reynaldo Hahn, born in Venezuela around 1875, moved to France when he was about 4 y/o and later became French.

Surely it's possible for you to enjoy the Jaroussky version without being condescending to those who are drawn to other versions and simply point out their preference.

I don't understand what everyone likes about his voice.. But the song is nice:)

typical - the pianist is never mentioned...

Jérôme Ducros, he is usually the pianist of Jaroussky in French melodies. You can see him also in Jaroussky's performance of "Mi lusinga" in French TV.

This is good but the best recording I've ever heard of these songs is by Susan Graham
artforlove1945 3 years ago
You got it ! Susan Graham is the bomb with these songs. One of best Cds in my collection. Makes everyone else sound like a garbage disposal. You need to get her CD of Songs of Ned Rorem as well, if you don't already have it. WELL worth any amount.

I'm in full agreement. I believe they came out relatively close to one another. I listened to them constantly for years.

anmabra 4 years ago

Otra vez, gracias!
tuffy942 4 years ago
ceph77 4 years ago
Gracias!
tuffy942 4 years ago
ceph77 4 years ago

nicosupersex 3 years ago

lesboreades 4 years ago
I disagree.Did you hear The CD A quiet Thing by David Daniels? I think Philippe could very well sing melodies accommpanied by piano like this, it is just another facet to his Vivaldian repertory.
tuffy942 4 years ago
This is not Vivaldi, just for the record, This belongs to Reynaldo Hahn, born in Venezuela around 1875, moved to France when he was about 4 y/o and later became French.

I know! Actually it is one of his nicest pieces, but Philippe is as usual beautiful, expressive and so, so moving. He is the best!
