  • I'm sure I've completely missed the point here, but the tuning fork doesn't appear to be oscillating at 300Hz.

  • @SpellboundSolution

    Stroboscopic effect probably.

  • No, I meant technology.

In order to make this movement today, I believe we'd need to do a total rebuild of the old technology, and unfortunately, more of the important stuff is still held in secret by Bulova (now Citizen). I'd love to find a supplier for the insulated drive coil wire at 0.04mm diameter @ 90 meters long? Or find a lathe capable of making the 300 tooth index wheel that's the same tiny thinness as the drive coil wire. Luckily, each tooth only needs to be 1/100mm in height.

  • @guitartec how interesting.

what happened to the old suppliers of those components? are they all bulova? and now all production machines destroyed?

  • After seeing that video I decided to get one!

Yes quartz are more accurate but who really cares.

The intricate mechanical and electronic movement is incredible and worth having on your wrist than a cheapo quartz.

  • A rare piece of filming, detailed & informative. A picture really does paint a thousand words.

  • So, does anyone have the specs on this ESA movement? I know the index wheel on a 214 spins 38 million times a year, and has 300 teeth. It's beyond sick! And there's no way current technology could produce a fork movement like these.

  • @guitartec

It could be done, but the cost of the final assembled movement would be prohibitive nowadays.

  • @guitartec You mean current technology or current ECONOMY?

    I think you mean Economy.

  • Nice strobelight cinematography. Well done.
