Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956– 13 June 1977) was a British actor best known for his role as Michael Banks in Walt Disney's 1964 film Mary Poppins. Born in Stepney, London to parents who had both performed on stage, he attended St Paul's Primary School in Winchmore Hill and Highgate School in Highgate, North London. He died of acute pancreatitis in 1977.

@midgetgirl5 Actually, he didn't have cancer. He contracted hepititas while traveling in India, probably from eating bad meat, according to his brother. By the time he got back to England for proper medical care, it had spread to his pancreas and was not treatable. He died of a pancreatic hemmorage on June 13, 1977. I really hate it when this movie goes on TV or someone watches it at home or at school because I get a lot of attention because my name is Michael Banks just like in the movie, so once some one watches this I get a lot of attention and I hate it

I was four when I first saw this and after seeing the movie I told every new person I met my name was Jane Banks and that I was seven years old. We had just moved to a new neighborhood and my mom didn't want me to get a reputation of being a liar, so she never corrected anyone when they mentioned how "tiny" I was for seven!

Every once in awhile I'll see someone from when I was a kid and they still slip and call me Jane. ;-/

That dad still makes me mad! Thank God for Mary Poppins!
