I don't know if the commentator said this, but she actually competes as a way of earning money to pay for his treatments. Also, she is a native of Uzbekistan--she moved to Germany because they did SO much for Alisher. SHe now competes for Germany as a thank you. Her son is now doing very well, I believe cured? Besides, why should she have stayed home and sat by him hours on end all day, pitying herself?

@tmwalkerm Seriously?! If she just stayed at home and not compete, where is she going to find the money to pay for the treatment? Her son recovered only because she was a dedicated mother who worked so hard to earn the money to save him. Competing is more than just about personal and national glory, you know.
