  • This documentary is:

90 per cent of Japanese TV things,

5 per cent of Japanese ethiquete,

and 5 per cent of Japanese culture.

    :(

  • I don't think this doco does Japan justice, but it's still not bad, it's good fun.

  • "I'm riding a panda! I'm riding a giant mechanical panda!" LOL

  • This show simply makes my day.

  • that panda is an attraction in an old amusement park....the park is king of boring ...it's vintage

  • what's the song at t he beginning?

  • im riding a panda. im riding a giant mechanical panda.

  • i didn't know the laughing thing was Japanese.lol. i do that all the time.

  • Interesting. A great lessen in mannerism by Madam Shirota. Cover up while laughing. Time for Part 2. Hail Japanorama.

  • and the teen idol shows looks like the the Bay City Rollers' variety show in UK, what your mum were watching everyweek from the 70s.but I enjoyed.thanks.

  • by the way the items they use are all mixed up together.from 2000s to 1950s and everything.sure, they'll look too weird naturally.

  • 1:54 thats my favret movie :D !!!!!!!!!

  • wheres the intro

  • their laughter is more scary like that

  • You can laugh out loud in Japan but if you're a quest somewhere and you have to act formal, you have to hide you laugh.

  • Japanese don't want to be western people.

Western people don't want to be Japanese.

  • Who knows. If someone wants to be someone, or something else from another culture, in the way they basically want to be from that ethnicity, is quite weird and retarded, and akin to the latter, its plain strange.

But if something is interested in another culture; things like that would be normal, and obviously inevitably happen.

Still... I don't get the true meaning of your comment.

  • He was replying to an earlier comment. Some Westerners often believe that if a person from a different ethnicity decides to dye their hair, wear modern clothes instead of traditional then they want to be Westerners without even considering that they just want to express themselves. In America some people have apparently made 'rules' of what a person who's black, asian, spanish, etc. can behave/be interested in and if they're not then they're either trying to be black, white, asian, etc.Racists

  • fucking elegance! I rather laugh with all Ive got! dont hide your beautiful feelings!

  • hiding ones feeling is not always a good thing.

  • Ah, now I get it!! The polite way of laughing is a good way to hide a forced laugh after someone told a really un-funny joke.

  • @shugzbear lol @ how to laugh beautifully's "this is incorrect"

  • @shugzbear pmsl is NOT the right way. Proper belly laughin here..!

  • It's not true. When there is a westerner in anime they draw him diffenrently with little eyes, strong jaw and long nose. We don't have purple eyes or natural pink hair. They only want to make them look different from each other so they use different colors. They don't want to be like us. Sorry if I made mistakes, English isn't my first language ^^

  • what youre saying is really wicked never heard of that before LOL

  • so? dont ya think theyd get bored if EVERYONE in anime looked japanese? iv lived there and a lot of people actually look down on westerners... a lot of racism there too

  • There are racists in every country.

  • well yea of course there r.... like duuhh... but theres a lot more in japan, racism is more in ur face there

  • Actually no they don't. Anime characters are meant to be cute and big eyes in pretty colors are cute. It's the anime style.

  • lol, water boys looks hilarious

  • It's not uncommon to hear someone laugh after telling a sad story or something embarrasing. I noticed that if the Japanese had to tell you some bad news, they would smile a lot then laugh. I lived in Japan for three years and may be going back by the end of the year.

  • I want to be a cuphead too!

  • Me too!!! And I want a giant mechanicle panda as well! :'D

    ^.^

  • make one then, you only need 300 plastic cups, a craft knife and alot of those plastic zip tie things.

  • They should have got Hard Gay to be the water boy's coach. Swimming Hoooooo!

  • Hoooo!

  • I love the opening

  • nobody laughs that way anymore, not even old people. it is cool that they show traditional japanese manners, but nobody should be under the impression that anyone does it anymore than Western people eat soup with the right spoon.

Anyway, live in Japan and you'll see, people pissing on the street, vomiting, yawning with mouths wide open, spitting everywhere.

Japanese manners are overrated, this day and age anyway.

  • Their manners are better than yours.

  • Sorry if I give the wrong impression. Westerners are extremely rude in other ways.

I'm merely saying that the Japanese are people, neither more or less rude than anyone else. Why should they be? The point is, like us Westerners, Japanese people don't follow their old manners.

Mind you, I've been living in Tokyo for 6 years and we all know big city people are the pits when it comes to manners, any country.

In the countryside Japanese people are lovely. But half of them live here in Tokyo.

  • hey the japanese are known for their politness.

but if it was me and there was something really funny i couldn't be polite about it. i would laugh my ass off and maybe even get a good punch on the table. don't know if it's because i'm a foreigner or i'm just me.....

hey , every nation has it's own ways wich may seem weird to others. it shouldn't be critisiesed.

  • Gah, comments is messed up or summat. X=x

What I mean was...is that the polite laughing is only for formal occasions. Isn't it obvious?

Anyways, I love this show. It's interesting!

  • Yeah I applaud you for trying to understand the culture instead of criticizing it.

All cultures have certain social norms for various situations.

  • im riding a panda a big mechanical panda so funny i laughed

  • cupheads....... ok, *walks away.*

    why cups?

  • like the show, but that polite laughing stuff is bullshit...

  • i agree. you can laugh how you want.

  • Um..this is for formal situations maybe? Duh. =P

  • yes, that is obvious. it can still be criticized.

  • Try to understand their culture instead of expecting them to be like you.

  • oh GOOD LORD japanorama is so FULLY OF SPOILERS

    nonetheless its really awesome though.

  • OMG it´s Jonathan Ross! love the man!

  • Jonathan Ross is like the British Elmer Fudd, 'Japanowama' XP

  • Lol, that only makes it better.

  • didnt get the laughing part oO

  • I love water boys, great film ^^

  • Wossy is riding a giant mechanical panda :3 his voice and speech is part of his charm. i think it's great that he's doing this.

  • oooooooooooooh, cup heads , japanese never fail to out wierd themselves.

  • narrrrr ACTORnSCREENWRITER mate you already have one of them in the white house!

  • Haha I wanna try being a cuphead

  • i laugh like a monster

  • did you use 4 fingers?!

  • it just seems less interesting when you try to explain japanese culture. but the documentary covers alot of things

and please, japanese animations/games are NOT solely for kids. the biggest error in this documentary.

  • I know, lot's of people love anime and manga or whatever it is.

    I like it:P

  • Yeah you see adults watching anime on their hand-held devices or reading mangas on the subway. Same with video games.

  • Just this episode mate. Check the others.

  • @redchemistry01 actually, i might be wrong, but i think the japanese animation and games are consumed more by adults than by kids

  • @redchemistry01 Jonathon is actualy a pretty big Otaku and he kinda gave that impression wrongly, he desperately tries to convince people of this error in the later series :)

  • @redchemistry01 This documentary didn't claim anything of the sort. It says many focuses their audience potential on youth, not just "kids", in witch Japanese animations/games play PART OF NOT SOLELY.

  • Does anybody know the music behind the "cupheads" section?

  • Yeah... it's "Drop" by Cornelius... and his music is just great...

    ^_^

  • @tsureibisu OMG YOU ID'D IT!!! Mate, I've been looking for this literally since when it first aired. I even emailed the BBC who said the producers didn't leave any notes. I seriously owe you a beer. Contact me for details, I can paypal you or something lol :p

  • @xTheLostProphetx No problem, dude... I'm glad I helped you in some way ^ ~ ^

  • i love this show!

  • lmao water boys 1 and 2 were sooooo funny lmao i think i watched it last year...yea it was..lol water boys 2 is funnier though cause it looks more modern atleast.

  • I love japan even though there are some weirdos there like cupheads. I love em all.

  • i wanna become a cuphead... so i don't have to cover my mouth while laughing!

  • Lol I wish someone would upload the water boys

  • i think he is very good at his job! i like the way he talks!

    that is funny video!

  • from anchorman: "hey ron, i'm riding a furry tractor!"

  • Why is he dressed like the Joker?

  • This program is like teasing Japanese weird culture...

  • Im widding a panda...I HATE HE's VOICE

  • dude this makes me seriously want to see Water Boys.

  • i concur.

  • bad pic nquality shame

  • Love Water Boys! That film made me crack up! I always wondered why Japanese women laughed the way they do... I would forget if I was in Japan and I would be seen as another rude American I guess! *places hand in front of mouth*

  • For a moment I was expecting the woman to laugh with a "OH~~ hohohohohoh"

  • I am so disturbed by those red speedos...or should I say thongs?

That way of laughing is so insincere. D:

  • Yes, I AM riding a giant panda...

Waterboys is a great movie. I saw it in my Japanese class back in grade 11.

  • Water Boys and laughing lessons!! O_o OMG!

  • that explains the harajuku girls laughing at the end of gwen stefani's what you waiting for video...

  • nice intro song...

  • water boys rocks

  • And when yawning, put both palms together and place hands over mouth. I used to think this gesture meant they were upset, not sleepy!

  • I want to see water boys 0_0

    *is a bit yaoi obsessed*

  • I already knew that ^^ Jonathan Ross and Japanese culture...its like the perfect tv show for me! Haha! I think this is a really good programme, it is informative and interesting, and takes a middle view of the culture of otaku, rather than saying they're all pervy or they're all innocent and fun. Does anyone know if that is a younger Matthew Minami in the title sequence singing?

  • now, i know why japanese girls put their hand in front of their mouth when they laugh...

  • Japanorama was a great show!! Many thanks for uploading!
