This lady has Down's Syndrome. People with Down's have difficulty getting people, including some people in our own family to take the time to figure what they say. They become frustrated as this lady does. Unfortunately people in this world aren't patient, can you imagine spending your whole life being treated this way and talked badly about because of your disability. This still may not get you to think about your cruel words, but be careful that you're not in an accident that may disable you.

But at the same time they can't have her causing a scene with customers around and preventing them from working. We get disabled customers at our store too, if we can't fully understand or communicate we have to tell them so. A few even hold up a line just to talk or play mind games. It's very hard, but there's only so much a food server can do.

@sumoni patience is your best bet. I can't say for all people with disabilities, but most believe it or not are very sensitive to others perception of them and will respond to that vibe. For some reason we find them uncomfortable to be around that if we take the time to really understand them we might also be made fun of by others. How many of us actually tried to be a real friend to a kid with Down's in school.

Sumoni not sure what you mean by mind games, but just keep in mind that they've probably been treated poorly for a long time and any attention is still attention. If you make it apparent that the NEXT customer is more important, then you're going to have problems. Might be worth it to show some interest like asking their name and then using it when explaining you're going make sure their food is prepared right and invite them to have a seat until it's ready.

This might not work every time, but trust me, being rude, laughing and calling the police on a person with obvious disabilities to deal with the situation is not going to work and will probably end up taking even more time and frustration. Being patient, kind and keeping in mind this could be your child, someone you care about or even you one day is good karma.

@tbjw1 I usually do keep that in mind. We want to be patient and not make them feel like they aren't worth our time. It's just that not everyone is equipped to deal with disabled ppl at such a lengthy amount of time. Other customers in line want to get their food and go. This also may sound mean. But just because someone is disabled doesn't mean they're a good person. Sure they may have been bullied or angry at the world. That doesn't give them the right to take it out on ppl trying to..

I also get a number of disabled customers who are very nice, do not play games, and know how to communicate what they need without taking advantage of the kindness ppl are showing them. This lady screaming in the video needs help that the baristas can't provide to her. The police are good to call if she won't calm down. Police also deal with the disabled.

I even took her aside, so she wouldn't feel rushed. One day she returned asking the same questions and when I forgot to give her the answer to one. She answered it for me and smiled (a taunting smile) at me. It made me upset because I was so nice to her before and all she wanted to do was play games.

She was throwing a huge scene during a rush, while I was working with new ppl. I have her a new meal so she could be on her way. I hated doing it, but with a ton of ppl around and no proof or manager you gotta give the baby it's bottle.
