@OrleanMarina. i'm sure the cold war would have been over sooner if your leaders had played these singers and songs. I'm so glad you are getting so much enjoyment from you tube, same as myself. My wife used to help Tom Jones push his van to get it going to be able to get to the clubs to sing before he was famous, so helped get on the road to success. He never did thank her, but she did marry me as a consulation prize.
And I have remembered the Soviet childhood... Sadly.! Our TV didn't show these singers, but I had their vinyl records. I at all didn't know, how they look, Any muffled drawing. And here now I have possibility them to see young and old. Thanks you tube!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The two are incredible, extraordinary SINGERS. Cannot compare one from the other, each one EXCEL in their own special ways. Bottomline, they are both good looking, got terrific voices & undeniably SEXY!
Engelbert is the best classic vocal, Tom is best multi style singer , with great vocal diapason , his interpretation can completely changed song...

That said I think Engelbert's version is better. This is his signature song for God's sake. It would be like saying Engelbert sings "Its not unusual" better than Tom Jones.
I love both singers, but i have noticed that Engelberts fans are far more critical of Tom than Tom's fans are of Engelbert. I know Tom's style isn't for everybody but how can you not respect a man who has sold over 100 million records. Stop hatin.
I think there is irrefutable proof here on who the best balladeer is and that surely is Engelbert. Toms version was rejected by Decca records. Engelbert uses his diagphram properly Tom just roars from his throat. Tom's fans will say its his own style but proffessional singing uses and utilises the diagphram properly!
Sorry, not fair to Tom (though Tom sang it the TOM WAY and in doing so did great). But now have Englebert sing Delilah and see if he measures up. He won't. It's a Tom song. Anyway, rather "odd" to have mixed these two distinctly different vocal styles. This is an Englebert song. Neverthelss, two great performers, each known by their signature songs. Englebert will tell you Nat King Cole influenced him big time. I suspect Jackie Wilson and Jerry Lee Lewis influenced Tom. Thanks for the post!

I also like TJ, (Delilah, Green Green grass Of Home) his voice is very characteristic and powerful, but - Engelberts voice is more sensitive, gentle and warm
