Over crowded starting areas will happen at launch, just preorder and try and get the head start keys. Also you could play a less popular race like the Dwarves.

Haven't tried the other melee classes yet beyond the Shadow Warrior, which is anotehr class I didn't quite liek the feel of, though a few guildies love it. The Swordmaster is great fun, still prefer it with a healer nearby, but as so many dps classes are healers as well, it's really easy to have that happen :)

For me, in no order, but just my top 3, Bright Wizard, Runepriest and Swordmaster. I've tried the Magus, and don't like the feel and graphics as much as the BW, the Shaman is as good as the RP imo, but the ArchMage I couldn't get the feel of, and the Warrior Priest I find a little odd, still out on deciding on that one.
