Is this a forced information blackout against the American public? Is this a form of news censorship forced on the American public, hiding the scary reality from public eye by the police state? The video of the gun incident is now down, but many many people watched it and commented about it. The vast majority, if not all, were in support of the police that pulled the gun out and actually commended him for de-escalating the situation. Shame on the Berkeley students.
To put context to the whole "UC cop pulls gun on students" incident. Here is what happened. The student protesters had a SINGLE POLICE surrounded (about 20 protesters to 1 police officer). Protesters began approaching him, shoving him, and hitting him. The officer struggled with the protesters, and pushed them away. He was terrified and he pulled out his gun and POINTED AT THE GROUND (see picture) because the crowd looked like they were about to jump him. The officer feared for his life.
Good cop bad cop, who cares. I'd mace and baton these over-priviledged students myself. Just because they are university students doesn't mean their opinions matter over everyone else's.
Even if the students were acting out it's not ok to pull a gun on them unless they're actually posing a fatal threat to you. Also intimidating them for writing in chalk on the sidewalk is wrong. I'm not sure where the law stands on posting pictures of people if that person doesn't want it posted (the police man pulling the gun).
Here's a thought: I'll get 30 to 40 buddies and we'll show up at your place making crazy, random demands. We'll make certain that it's just 1 person at a time that we face. You can later write a nice essay about your experience; maybe you'll wish you could have pulled a sidearm or something else threatening.
By the time a gun's been pulled on unarmed students expressing their opinions, whether those students are spoiled and over entitled or not... the entire situation is going to downward spiral.

Comments about Berkeley students 'not being classy' or 'trying to make the cops look bad' are just ridiculous. They're obviously upset about an incident that had already occurred and so they were demonstrating to the police officers that they had rights. Pulling a gun on peaceful protesters is not okay. Its perfectly reasonable that these students were trying to show the officers that they were not intimidated. They were within their rights.

Hanging up fliers and chalking on campus typically has to be pre-approved. So what these people were doing was most likely vandalism, and the police had not only the right to tear down the posters, but it is also part of their job to stop vandalism. They should have hosed off the chalk as well. Hopefully they did as soon as the camera stopped rolling.

The administration can start by excluding building shit facilities like more workout buildings or cut their wages along with the increase. First off, scrapes and bruises pale in comparison to the amount of pain that pepper spray inflicts, not to mention that it is known to permanently blind or kill people who have had bad reactions to it. People go to college for a few months and then think they know everything. Police are wrong when they overstep their authority, but disrespecting officers is not right. Problem is that the few that screw up or do wrong give police in general a bad rap.

To put context to the whole "UC cop pulls gun on students" incident. Here is what happened. The student protesters had a SINGLE POLICE surrounded (about 20 protesters to 1 police officer). Protesters began approaching him, shoving him, and hitting him. The officer struggled with the protesters, and pushed them away. He was terrified and he pulled out his gun and POINTED AT THE GROUND (see picture) because the crowd looked like they were about to jump him. The officer feared for his life.

Even if the students were acting out it's not ok to pull a gun on them unless they're actually posing a fatal threat to you. Also intimidating them for writing in chalk on the sidewalk is wrong. Hanging up fliers and chalking on campus typically has to be pre-approved. So what these people were doing was most likely vandalism, and the police had not only the right to tear down the posters, but it is also part of their job to stop vandalism. They should have hosed off the chalk as well. Hopefully they did as soon as the camera stopped rolling.

If I were to pepper spray or threaten to shoot bible-thumpers just because they make me angry, I would be thrown in jail before my feet touched the ground. The cop had no right to use pepper spray, especially since they made it a point to be complacent.

I believe those students however wanted to get pepper sprayed, as they just sat there after being warned they would be sprayed.

@jowbowcow And what's your point? The people were just sitting there, not causing a fight or commotion. Pepper spray should only be used if they are violently resisting arrest. Just because he warned them and waited a minute doesn't justify it. Hell, now police are too afraid to use pepper spray on the people who actually deserve it out of fear it will create another media shitstorm.

Ok here is what I don't get Everyone is saying that protesting isn't going to get us anywhere. and that we all have no clear goal. If none of us protested for basic rights we would still have slavery we wouldn't have women rights, and we would still be ruled by Britain! And every single protester had different needs back then. But they all had one clear goal. Basic rights. And that's all we want now.
