Looks good on stage, breasts heaving, covered in blood (what a cheap effect). If only she had a voice and a technique....the volume is tiny, the breath control nonexistent, the vocal colour shrill, acidic, boooring. Nearly all her high notes are sung flat. She survives through a supreme physical effort. Who is she sleeping with, so she can get contracts? Do we need to talk about the ugly modern production and the tittilating naked executioner? Nice ass, but he isn't even well-endowed. What CRAP!
Well I suppose you have to have Salome do SOMETHING through all those minutes. I'm not sure if this would be my ideal. Michael's voice could be stronger I think. Mireille Delunsch can get almost as much volume and she's a lyric mezzo. But you know the bottom line is that it is Strauss, it is Salome, it's awesome. :)
@qw3rtydud3 i love this production and nadja michael's portrayal of salome, but her singing is noticeably off-key at times. In this video she was flat on big chunks of the passage "....Mund gekusst, Jochanaan....ihn gekusst, deinen Mund.... (2nd) Was tut's?" There's also some criticism regarding her volume and wobble, though these criteria are really subject to personal taste. But like I said before, in a chromatic score like this lots of it sound out of tune anyway even if sung properly.
@qw3rtydud3 She's the wrong type- Salome is a dramatic role and she sounds more like a lyrico-spinto. Her acting is great and before she kissed his mouth she had the right amount of sexual frustration in it but alas her singing wasn't so good.

Good actress. Now if only she knew how to sing...
She's doing Lady Macbeth at the Met next year. The mind boggles.

@callasite What's wrong with her singing? Just out of interest.

@sirmercutio99 After listening to other recordings, I agree, a lot more metal is needed in the tone colour for this role.
