@purejesuschick I wasn't making fun of him, if you read my comment you'll see I was saying how I think he did amazingly here. And yeah I know he was in Broadway but that was at a young age and compared to the rest of the cast he doesn't have as much experience and I don't know if he had as much training as them :)
Nick played well, but his problem is that when he sings the best part of the song, He cuts it and doesn't make it long. If only he can sing like that dude in the baracade :)
Personally, although I don't hate nick in this role, if the whole cast looked/sounded like this and I was Eponine I would be asking my good friend Marius to hook me up with Enjouras......... just sayin
I HATE when singers say "Cho" instead of "YOU" I don't ever hear that in a conversation, so why should we be hearing that in a song? I don't know... unprofessional...
I am surprised by Nick Jonas's performance. That being said, He seems a little bit out of his league. His singing is good but he doesnt have the same level of emotion as his costars
@7pablomarmol I do agree with the fact that he wasn't ready for a huge role like this but it isn't right to say that he sucks. Right now, he is in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and it's the perfect role for him and he sounds amazing. He just wasn't ready for this role
As much as I think Nick was miscast in this role, I think he did spectacularly for someone from such a different musical background. He did this song great justice, he sings it well and acts it very emotionally, I mean just look at his face at 3:33! His face alone there makes me tear up! People need to cut him some slack and get over the fact he's a Jonas Brother and watch how good he is when you look past that.
@EllieTurnip He actually comes from specifically this background. I knew him from the Broadway production where he played Gavroche long before he became a big star. Definitely a Broadway guy first though

Enough already! Taylor Swift is not who I would have chosen for Eponine either. I like her music, but I'm not sure she's a strong enough singer/actress to pull off the role. That said, I wholeheartedly hope she is. The attacks on her posted on every Les Miserables video on YouTube are completely uncalled for and utterly despicable. I'm sure she'll give it her best, and that's all we can ask of her. I applaud her courage. To everyone attacking her, karma will come for you.

Everytime I watch Michael and Lea do this in the 10th anniversary, I am moved to tears. Everytime I watch this by Nick Jonas, I want to laugh. With his thin and nasal singing, I can imagine him taping closed his mouth and only singing through his nostrils. No, I don't hate him. I thank him for making me laugh with his attempt at playing Marius.
Why do everybody hate Nick Jonas ? He is an amezing singer ! I love him with all my heart no matter what he does. He was my firts crash, now I have new ones, but cuz he was the first one his place, can't be replaced. It always gonna be there. No matter what.
Nick Jonas sings louder when he sing with his brothers and in my oppion they can't sing. But when he sings in this he is really quiet but he is singing really well.
Guys...this is the concert version...thats why there are mics in front of them, and they aren't laying on the ground. Just though that needed to be pointed out......
The only thing that would have made this better for me was if they had embraced like lea salonga and michael ball did. It just seemed more impersonal here.
The only thing that would have made this better for me was if they had embraced like lea salonga and michael ball did. It just seemed more impersonal here.
@wankerkid there was the 10th videos uploaded some years ago by mistyaho that already have millions of views on each related videos but unfortunately, due to copyright claim was removed recently.
Whilst watching les mis I found a new respect for nick jonas still can't say I like him or his brothers but his voice in this was perfect on little thing though he looked a bit awkward trying to get his voice across the audience whilst using a mic but also wanting to take his co stars ( this counts for all of the concert) and put emotion into actions as well as words but still he was perfect for this role
Don't get me wrong, i absolutely ADORE Sam and Nick jonas was so much better in this than i thought he was going to be, they are both amazing singers but this scene could have been so much sweeter. i get why they weren't lying/sitting on the ground (like most productions) but he could have at least put his arm around her while she was slowly dying!
My problem with this is not the singing, it's the placement. In the TAC, Eponine was in Marius' arms and it was such a moving performance that I was crying for most of it. The voices here are also beautiful, but it just seems much less personal.
All this critique aside, it's hardly arguable that this performance is reaaally tender and overflowing with emotion. I'm touched. No, This isn't Lea and Michael. It's Samantha and Nick, and they bring something else to the characters. So lay it off, everyone! :)
I actually think Nick Jonas did an amazing job as Marius. I have to do one of marius' songs in my Musical Theatre lessons, and actually liked his version best when I was researching it. He has a great voice for stage, and I definitely took more than a few ideas from his performances for mine.
The girl really carries this performance. You can almost see the tears in her eyes, and she sounds honestly in pain while her voice is still very clear.
I still prefer the tenth anniversary, but this isn't bad.
Im sorry, I don't see you being given an eight month gig as the lead in H2$ like Nick was, so shut up haters. You're only criticizing because he's known for the Jonas Brothers. He has a really good broadway voice and he did a good job at using it instead of his 'pop' voice. Sure he's no Ramin Karmiloo (no one else is!) but he did a good job.
Oh, come one-- she was awesome. Isn't "ugly stalker" a little much? She could have not delivered the letter or shown Marius where Cosette lived. She even dressed as a boy and helped at the barricade before taking a bullet for Marius - all the while knowing he will never love her back. Not to say that Cosette is bad (she's adorable and sweet), but like the desperate and fallen Fantine, you have to give Eponine some love too.
@zeldaindisguise Don't get me wrong, I love Eponine! But, in the book- Marius actually hated her and found her annoying, she was meant to have barely any teeth and stuff, I LOVE EPONINE, in the musical- but in the book, It's Corsette who, deserves him, And we all forget, Corsette was the one who was abused as a young child, when Eponine, was spoiled. Sure, she's repented- but still, I love both chars- even though, Eponine, is crazy in the book! ox
i don't like this rendition too much. i feel like the connection wasn't really there. when i saw lea michele and john loyd young i cried, i didn't even want to finish this. and lea salonga of course makes this look bad. but samantha barks can sing, i just wanted more
@AllBroadwayCovers I think it might be because lea was dying in johns arms but sam and nick are stood up not touching, I think it's just bad directing <3
@quack709 yeah I agree, just the fact that they are stood up its really difficult, it must be because they are at the o2 and it might be hard to see if they are lying down <3<3
@quack709 true, good point, i think they shouldn't have stood. it just kind of took away from the emotion. but i guess since technically it was a concert it was ok. they sing great though :)
This might be to my ignorance, but why does he have a british accent when this clearly takes place in france (i may be wrong)... Is the male lead meant to be british or convey some sort of british background?
otherwise Nick jonas's performance has begun to change my opinion of him.
Is it just me or do people always look to one "story" in this story? I mean, there's the story with Enjolras, the story with Javert and Valjean, and the story with Éponine, Cosette and Marius. And there's always one story that's your favorite when you watch this musical. That's what I think =). I LOVE the story with Éponine, and I don't even know how the first part of the musical is... :S
@twjp726 No way!!! he doesn't have the voice!! I wish he would just stick to what he does best, even if it is stupid disney pop! Compare him to the likes of Ramin Karmiloo or Hadley Fraser, they're the ones who deserve a role as big as Marius, they have experience on the West End and talent, both of which Nick Jonas doesn't!!!
@AmyYeo1997 you do know the Nick Jonas was on Broadway way before the Jonas Brothers right? Thats why he went back to broadway instead of continuing with pop music cause he loves it. he is as good as any other broadway star and he deserves to be recognized for it.
@twjp726 I know, playing Gavroch, but A LOT has happened since then, his voice needs to be more from his stomach and to me he just ISN'T Marius. I'm sorry we disagree, I guess I'm slightly biased because I loooooooooove Hadley Fraser and Ramin Karimloo and to me it is clear they are much better singers, but it is just a matter of opinion. I don't want to argue, I was merely stating my opinion :) xx
I'm a massive Nick Jonas fan, and was at this concert so was able to analyse Nick's performance fully. However, I do agree with SOME of the criticisms posted. He just lacked throughout the night vocally and acting wise. But he was in front of 20,000 people, whom where most likely non Jonas fans and are serious theatre goers. You also have to gather that he had just turned 18 so was still a teenager, with a constantly maturing vocals hence why it was slightly lacking in parts.
Marius may have fallen in love with Cosette, but the audience falls in love with Eponine.

I think that samantha and nick are great here, especially samantha, but they just lack that wonderful closeness and feeling from the 10th version
ThePinkfreak805 1 month ago
Everytime I watch Michael and Lea do this in the 10th anniversary, I am moved to tears. Everytime I watch this by Nick Jonas, I want to laugh. With his thin and nasal singing, I can imagine him taping closed his mouth and only singing through his nostrils. No, I don't hate him. I thank him for making me laugh with his attempt at playing Marius.

Eponine here is so much trying Hard ( my opinion atleast )
princeoberonofvalkar 1 month ago
Whilst watching les mis I found a new respect for nick jonas still can't say I like him or his brothers but his voice in this was perfect on little thing though he looked a bit awkward trying to get his voice across the audience whilst using a mic but also wanting to take his co stars ( this counts for all of the concert) and put emotion into actions as well as words but still he was perfect for this role
hooch7009 1 month ago
Don't get me wrong, i absolutely ADORE Sam and Nick jonas was so much better in this than i thought he was going to be, they are both amazing singers but this scene could have been so much sweeter. i get why they weren't lying/sitting on the ground (like most productions) but he could have at least put his arm around her while she was slowly dying!
AllieM229 1 month ago
i love nick jonas *-*
KathiKami 1 month ago
My problem with this is not the singing, it's the placement. In the TAC, Eponine was in Marius' arms and it was such a moving performance that I was crying for most of it. The voices here are also beautiful, but it just seems much less personal.
acapellagirl24 1 month ago
All this critique aside, it's hardly arguable that this performance is reaaally tender and overflowing with emotion. I'm touched. No, This isn't Lea and Michael. It's Samantha and Nick, and they bring something else to the characters. So lay it off, everyone! :)

I don't think nick Jonas did Marius justice
FEARalma2 1 month ago 5
I actually think Nick Jonas did an amazing job as Marius. I have to do one of marius' songs in my Musical Theatre lessons, and actually liked his version best when I was researching it. He has a great voice for stage, and I definitely took more than a few ideas from his performances for mine.
haggis855 1 month ago 2
The girl really carries this performance. You can almost see the tears in her eyes, and she sounds honestly in pain while her voice is still very clear.
I still prefer the tenth anniversary, but this isn't bad.

NICE!! but still not good enough for broadway. just commenting lol
stepuprockerz 1 month ago
Im sorry, I don't see you being given an eight month gig as the lead in H2$ like Nick was, so shut up haters. You're only criticizing because he's known for the Jonas Brothers. He has a really good broadway voice and he did a good job at using it instead of his 'pop' voice. Sure he's no Ramin Karmiloo (no one else is!) but he did a good job.

Taylor swift. Will not be a good Eponine unless she is re-trained vocally, and trained acting wise as well. oh I pray it all ends well.

If you read the book, Eponine is actually some ugly stalker so yeah, Marius made the right choice.
happylampshades 1 month ago 2
@happylampshades
Oh, come one-- she was awesome. Isn't "ugly stalker" a little much? She could have not delivered the letter or shown Marius where Cosette lived. She even dressed as a boy and helped at the barricade before taking a bullet for Marius - all the while knowing he will never love her back. Not to say that Cosette is bad (she's adorable and sweet), but like the desperate and fallen Fantine, you have to give Eponine some love too.
zeldaindisguise 1 month ago
@zeldaindisguise Don't get me wrong, I love Eponine! But, in the book- Marius actually hated her and found her annoying, she was meant to have barely any teeth and stuff, I LOVE EPONINE, in the musical- but in the book, It's Corsette who, deserves him, And we all forget, Corsette was the one who was abused as a young child, when Eponine, was spoiled. Sure, she's repented- but still, I love both chars- even though, Eponine, is crazy in the book! ox

i don't like this rendition too much. i feel like the connection wasn't really there. when i saw lea michele and john loyd young i cried, i didn't even want to finish this. and lea salonga of course makes this look bad. but samantha barks can sing, i just wanted more
AllBroadwayCovers 1 month ago 2
@AllBroadwayCovers I think it might be because lea was dying in johns arms but sam and nick are stood up not touching, I think it's just bad directing <3
quack709 1 month ago 3
@quack709 yeah I agree, just the fact that they are stood up its really difficult, it must be because they are at the o2 and it might be hard to see if they are lying down <3<3
Tne1211 1 month ago
@quack709 true, good point, i think they shouldn't have stood. it just kind of took away from the emotion. but i guess since technically it was a concert it was ok. they sing great though :)
AllBroadwayCovers 1 month ago
This might be to my ignorance, but why does he have a british accent when this clearly takes place in france (i may be wrong)... Is the male lead meant to be british or convey some sort of british background?
otherwise Nick jonas's performance has begun to change my opinion of him.

Nick Jonas looks so confused when she steps away at the end...

To be fair this is actually so far the best of him I have seen during the concert. They both did a good job on this.

MuziekFan1995 1 month ago
I actually like NIck Jonas on Broadway more then doing pop music. anyone agree?
twjp726 1 month ago 2
@twjp726 No way!!! he doesn't have the voice!! I wish he would just stick to what he does best, even if it is stupid disney pop! Compare him to the likes of Ramin Karmiloo or Hadley Fraser, they're the ones who deserve a role as big as Marius, they have experience on the West End and talent, both of which Nick Jonas doesn't!!!
AmyYeo1997 1 month ago
@AmyYeo1997 you do know the Nick Jonas was on Broadway way before the Jonas Brothers right? Thats why he went back to broadway instead of continuing with pop music cause he loves it. he is as good as any other broadway star and he deserves to be recognized for it.
twjp726 1 month ago
@twjp726 I know, playing Gavroch, but A LOT has happened since then, his voice needs to be more from his stomach and to me he just ISN'T Marius. I'm sorry we disagree, I guess I'm slightly biased because I loooooooooove Hadley Fraser and Ramin Karimloo and to me it is clear they are much better singers, but it is just a matter of opinion. I don't want to argue, I was merely stating my opinion :) xx
AmyYeo1997 1 month ago
I actually wanted Marius to end up with Eponine.
And Cosette died instead.
Hee hee hee.
