It has a faster pace, the characters have their own set of skills which sets them apart from each other and latter on you customize the characters how ever you like.

Though not really a canon pairing at all, I liked the limited interaction we got from Terra and Vann in Duodecim. I know, I know, it wasn't much at all. But it was cute, and when you deal with someone like Terra, that's all I really need.

On the Next-Gen consoles and PC, a well-marketted remake of FF6 would be a friggin' blockbuster, and for good reason (assuming they touch up a couple of dialogues here and there, elaborate on one or two plot points). Personally, I thought it was great that Terra didn't end up another corny, love starved floosy who found her corny one true love and conrnily lived in peace and love and cornyness together with said person, but instead found her love in an entierly different, and rather unexpected, way and place.
@GrahamChapman Not that Celes was a bad or shoehorned love interest either, mind. Locke did save her in more ways than one; it's not surprising her feelings developed the way she did.
Plus she still has what I regard as one of the most striking and emotional scenes in the entire series, and I say this as someone who's played all of IV and seen a full LP of V.

The thing is, while the opera scene is definitely -good-, it doesn't hold quite the same emotional power in my heart as, say, Celes, considering I didn't grow up with VI. Celes' suicide, on the other hand, is such a powerful scene that even those without a strong emotional bond to the plot and characters still have to take a step back in awe. Sort of like the entirety of MOTHER 3.

Actually, FFVI was what inspired the technology thing in FF. Which is good. FFX and FFVI is kind of similar in terms of the feel of their worlds. Good tech but focuses more on the retro kind of tech.

@SethDreamer It is because Terra is a counterpart to Celes... Terra = Earth, Celes = Celestial. Terra finds maternal love, Celes finds romantic love... Personally, I thought it was great that Terra didn't end up another corny, love starved floosy who found her corny one true love and conrnily lived in peace and love and cornyness together with said person, but instead found her love in an entierly different, and rather unexpected, way and place.

@GrahamChapman Not that Celes was a bad or shoehorned love interest either, mind. Locke did save her in more ways than one; it's not surprising her feelings developed the way she did.
Plus she still has what I regard as one of the most striking and emotional scenes in the entire series, and I say this as someone who's played all of IV and seen a full LP of V.

@kiraina25 Oh no, I don't think Celes' and Locke's romance was shoehorned either. In fact, I think it was one of the best developed FF romances so far, but I also don't think a story needs more than one tale of loving love birds in love with each other.
Are you talking about the opera scene or the suicide attempt after Cid's death? ...Heck, I'd go for both, damn it.

@GrahamChapman I'm aware of this, yes. The thing is, while the opera scene is definitely -good-, it doesn't hold quite the same emotional power in my heart as, say, Celes, considering I didn't grow up with VI. Celes' suicide, on the other hand, is such a powerful scene that even those without a strong emotional bond to the plot and characters still have to take a step back in awe. Sort of like the entirety of MOTHER 3.

Actually, FFVI was what inspired the technology thing in FF. Which is good. FFX and FFVI is kind of similar in terms of the feel of their worlds. Good tech but focuses more on the retro kind of tech.
