  • Tchaikovsky is a genius of all time

  • DESDE ECUADOR!! esto es perfecto!

  • amazing!

  • i don't know about you guys, but i always tear up when i hear this masterpiece. and now to hear it in a combination with David Oistrakh! i really dont know what to say other then: thank you david, thank you very much! :)

  • Wonderful music........fantastic violinist !!!!

  • More romantic than Heifetz

  • Maestro è sempre "The Best"! You are always "The Best"! Great David Oistrakh!

  • unbelievably beautiful piece, mind-blowing performance

  • for those brought up on Heifetz and Perlman and others.....this is this Russian way....not that any other way is wrong....just saying

  • @kebab59, not exactly our time. He died a almost half a century ago.

  • well one of greatest of the 20th century then .....certainly of my lifetime ;)

  • one of the great violinists of our time

  • my favorite part is from around 6:20 to 8:50!

  • I LOVE THIS PIECE SOOOOO MUCH!!

  • Orchestra is excellent also

  • Oistrakh's interpretations are so grand, slow and stately

  • Great version

  • Fantastic version. Russia, congratulations!!!!

  • A hero who dictated his life to music

  • Why are there no more great composers like Bach, Tchaikovsky or Mozart

  • @qweasd123456543 well you have some composers in our time too, but many of them are just unknown.. but try Hans Zimmer... his music is really great..

  • More expressive than Heifetz's one

  • grande musique et grand interprete

  • fuckin' genius. :)

  • One of my favorite concertos and one of my favorite violinists.

  • Signale de la musique

  • I just discovered "youtube" not long ago. (Where have you been, girl?) What a luxury to listen to these world renown musicians with most famous orchestras accompanying them. Thank you, to all these people who made it possible! What I miss though is that often there is no mention of the conductor's name, the name of the orchestra and the date when it was recorded. This would really put it in context. However, even so, it is heaven! Elizabeth

  • He looks and sounds like a boss = D

  • He is great everybody knows. What I like espeically is that his nature gesture, body move, flexible neck. And without any sign of show off. I guess he does not need to show off.

  • I can see Mr. Oistrakh had definitely a different style from Perlman. He's definitely very concentrated, and seems to play with the style of a Guanerius, and with such unbelievable passion.

    .

  • Merci David !

  • He was listed on top ten violist all the time

  • 40 people are what you call people that suck at violin

  • all great players are from MOTHER RUSSIA!

  • @Tr0jan1337

Could be Russia and Ukraine? (Odessa is in Ukraine)

Heifetz, Kogan, Milstein, Stern, Vengerov, etc.

  • @jemso245 Odessa is in Russia

  • @MultiLVN Odessa belonged to Russia when Oistrakh was born, but it's been Ukrainian since the Soviet Union broke apart.

  • Like this if you imitate David and bob your head at 6:26

  • 9:30 The most powerful moment in the history of music. Well, really, this whole piece is the most powerful moment, and Oistrakh captures it perfectly. Who cares if he's not technically perfect? He's musically perfect.

  • Comment removed

  • Two great masters - composer and player.

  • @khock365

I have to disagree. I think Oistrakh has a very tasteful interpretation of that passage. A lot of recording tends to rush through that passage whereas Oistrakh held back and let every single note sing, complemented by the strings section playing the pizz in the background.

  • funny how sometimes when he is playiing his fat cheeks wobbles XD

  • What makes people dislike this oh so wonderful rendition of this concerto with Oistrakh?

  • Warm, fuzzy and great. No, he's not technically perfect.

  • The very best

  • I've listened to other talented violinists, but David Oistrakh is by far the Best. I wish I could listen to him playing in person. Sad there is no one this gifted now days

  • @timtim778

Well he is excellent, but people like Perlman are just about as gifted.

  • I wonder when this was posted? I mean 'cause it's in black and white.

  • THIS IS FROM THE ADAMS FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the dogs bollocks

  • La perfection existe

  • 06:52

  • 06:54

    mistake

  • His bow control is fucking amazing

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Oistrakh was the first interpretation of this concerto I heard, many years ago, and never heard another like it. Used to listen to this on cassette tapes 30 years ago. Brings back fond memories. So nice to see this video.

  • 'Makes you want to live another day!

  • 8:20 is the best part maybe because i listen cunninlyguistics haha. its still great

  • @MrChopf that's the beauty of music! colliding worlds!!

  • @MrChopf

  • @cacao11235813 The song is called Linguistics

  • 40 people hates perfection? or the fact that they can´t play better than this...?

  • i was listenening to Anne-Soprhie and Janine Jansen interpretions, but this is like listen to angels.

  • i was listenening to Anne-Soprhie and Janine Jansen interpretions, but this is like listen to angels.

  • That's what I like about YouTube: great footage gets immortalized and shared for the whole world to see. This concerto is truly a masterpiece.

  • @evileye76 agreed :)

  • Reaches into my soul

  • an orgasm in my ears.

  • I like him, but no one plays this concerto better than J. Jansen

  • goodness, I can't seem to get this out of my head

  • Listening to Oistrakh is like listening to a singer. Heads down to him!

  • 40 people against 2369 - who is right ? :)

  • @Vincetheviolin Sometimes, a majority just means that all idiots are on the same side.

Not in this case though. This music is fantastic.

  • WTF! it's just the best violin sound i've ever heard, it's just beautiful, his articulation is so exact and he takes care about every note he plays T.T beautiful!!!

  • The Great Sarah Chang's favorite favorite is Oistrakh. I'll take her advice!

  • °w°............................. wow!

  • Who dislikes tchaikovsky violin concert lives for nothing!

  • 40 people are watching this upside-down.

  • the master say that it is the best version of Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, it is really true!!!!!

  • Does anyone know where I can find the CD recording of this ?

  • @Vispale: Sony Essential Classics; SBK 46339 It comes with an outstanding recording of Thcaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 by Emil Gilels

  • This is the first time i've seen someone of the caliber of Jobert poked with a stick!

  • I wonder why everyone always discusses the solo violinist while this is just the preperation and in-between leading to the real deal that explodes at 6:54 - by the whole orchestra...

  • 39 people listen this video without sound.

  • @MsFeDeX998 Even that shouldn't stop them from liking this—look at his bow control!!

  • @MsFeDeX998 Even if I did I would still like it.

  • 39 personnes n'ont pas de culture !

  • Per me è il miglior violinista del '900

  • you got that far but you didnt move the snorlax?

  • who dislikes this? off with their heads!

  • @MrZiggyplaysguitar Maybe some Justin Bieber fan :D

  • @MrZiggyplaysguitar The dislikes must be Lady Gaga fans that stumbled over here because...well, big words are hard for them...

  • @MrZiggyplaysguitar probably someone that dislikes the player... though He is awesome and plays so good, someone might think there are better players or versions, at least that will the an acceptable reason to dislike something like this....

  • @MrZiggyplaysguitar - YOU IZ ONE VIOLENT BASTARD - NOW HUSH AND LISTEN TO THE SOOTHING MUSIC!

    :^)

  • wow

  • Excellent. Listen to Pinchas Zuckermann ! He is phenomenal !

  • this right here is what I call sounds of heaven on earth..I mean really how could you disslike this..I love House..music and many other typs of music but this is one as close to confort as it gets..lovely indeed.

  • how can you dislike this? >_<

  • Sublimeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Oistrakh's tone just has so much meat to it. it's so dense but it's not overwhelmingly heavy. like zukerman's in my opinions.

  • mesmorising he he

  • @MrScaramoosh Mesmerising....

  • mesmorising

  • mesorising

  • 6:20

  • heifetz plays this much better...

  • Imagine when Alice entered the dark , dangerous forest and this music ....

  • wow, it sounds much touching than the Heifetz's interpretation in the movie~ though I was attracted by Heifetz's superb technique and power, Oistrakh's (as well as the Orchestra's) interpretation could make me feel more Russian when listening to this.

  • 39 people are ignorant...

  • 8:01 most beautiful part. the whole thing is good though obviously!

  • @rusko33 to me around 8.10 starts the real fire :)

  • @MisteriosaVampiria oops that what i actually meant!! i just estimated because i let the whole part play before i commented haha yes that's my absoulute fave part :)

  • @rusko33 1 thumps up from me in your comment. Note that there was not in the movie!

  • What a terrible spot where to cut the concerto...

  • in which year has this been recorded? I love this, it reminds me of my childhood...

  • Russians say, for plays like this "velikolepno" (великолепно)!!! He 's my favourite violin player ever!!!

  • hearing things like this my heart fills with hope...This celestial music is the proof beauty will never die in the world... Menuhin, Oistrack, Heifetz, I thank you for leaving us these immortal pieces... If you feel it you think the world can't be so bad all in all... <3

  • Christ that's a big baton

  • I'm about to cry

  • This is so beautiful... you wonder what the .... is wrong with music today...

  • @mistyzen the way people think nowadays? either that or the blackies =w=

  • @mistyzen We still have music like this today. People are just too busy listening to Lady Gaga to notice.

  • Bye bye Heifetz.........

  • boah!

  • Beautiful, amazing...

My university teacher's wife was a student of Oistrakh, quite an amazing musician herself -- but he is the top.

  • thats how my teachers teacher sounds like ^^ (Oistrakh)

  • oistrack was the veryt best!

  • DYINGG FROM THE EPICNESS!

  • extraordinario exelente video felicitaciones

  • is he related to igor oistrakh by any chance??

  • @violinlurrve He is his father

  • Thank you for posting this. I had an LP of Oistrakh playing this concerto, years ago, which I wore out. I'm not a connoisseur of violin players but I always thought his playing was remarkable.

My partner was watching "There Will be Blood" tonight and I thought the Brahms violin concerto in the closing credits sounded like Oistrakh's playing, but I see it's actually Anne-Sophie Mutter. A similar virtuosity, I suppose.

  • I enjoy watching him play so much more than Heifetz

  • The Cadenza of !st Movt is better than Hifetz (see Hifetz) Carnegie Hall - I had to admit , IMHO.-though I think Hifetz is the King of Violin. But David Oistrakh really demonstrated this Russian music to the fullest extend. Great YouTube video.

  • Grazie.............

  • Perfeito mais ainda prefiro interpretações Itzhak Perlman Frank Peter Zimmerman e Jascha Heifetz deste concerto

  • 39 dislikes ? wtf?

  • SUPERB!!

  • Best part: 00:00 - 13:00

  • At 08:27 its the best part

  • I prefer Zimmerman playing this.

  • i like that man playing the violin :)

  • this is one of my favorite songs, its like going on a roller coaster but without all the unpleasant side effects screaming and being terrified

  • This is the best version of violin concerto in D op35. It really outperforms heifetz version. The slow tempo gives more russian feeling and a warm and nice sound. Heifetz just seems to rush at the end of the 1st move.

  • Sublime!

(A word that should be very seldomly used.)

  • just when oistrakh finishes his solo in the middle the orchestra takes over and he wipes his face, he hands over the music unable to go further until his next solo

  • 10:54, 11:03

  • Who knows what is he playing here? Stradivarius or Del Gesu?

  • it is impossible not to smile at 06:56

  • magnifique

  • incredible. his left hand seems really tight though..

  • 8:07 - 9:23

  • Wow! It's tremendous playing and with incredible taste he really makes it his own. Thanks for posting this!

  • maarsik stradivarius

  • Do I need to promote Egypt?

  • can someone tell me what year this record?
