@ImJustNobodySpecial You don't need to understand the words in order to grasp exactly what she's trying to express. That's why I love this song so much.
I wasn't much impressed by the movie but I love the way it was filmed. The cinematography and costumes and whole atmosphere was great. Jenny's annoying obsession with all things french reminds me of myself a bit.
the movie has no unique plot, we all know such situations well, but the way it was pictured, it was so british and so unamerican, and that's the best trait of this movie. IT'S SO BRITISH.
*the hurt locker won in almost all the categories which it was nomminated.. kathryn bigelow won best director because they knew that a woman wasn't going to get nomminated as best director very soon and the same goes to sandra bullock.. what she has done a decent part on her entire career and she gets an oscar the first time she gets nomminated?john malkovich, gary oldman, glenn close and many others who got nomminated and truly deserved an oscar(except gary oldman who should in dracula)*
@all the pretentious idiots who say this was underrated.
how was it underrated? it was nominated for heaps of awards under various categories, carey mulligan even won two. do you mean it was not popular in the box offices? or did you just want to say it was underrated and 'oh-the-mainstream-masses-don't-know-good-movies' because it made you feel special?
anywho this was a beautiful movie...and i'm here for this song.
@pantryraider Why this movie had limited realease???? sad twilight and shit like that had wide release but not good movies like this one.................
@Kikayuki But this film isn't underrated! Do you guys even understand what the word means? It got rave reviews everywhere. Perhaps you are mistaking underrated with underviewed and you think underrated 'isn't a bad thing' because it's uniqueness makes you feel totally special and artsy or some shit. When something is underrated I'm pretty sure it's a bad thing because it doesn't get the recognition it deserves but this film did SO WHATEVER!
how did sandra win the oscar?? Hellen Mirren and Carey Mulligan were AMAZING in their movies! If sandra's movie wasn't so heart warming she wouldn't have won... Carey's performance was so underated! so much
@haha34440 well the reason why sandra bullock won the oscar, last year,it's because right now the academy is full of rubbish. if you stop and think for a while, last year the oscars where delivered to those who the academy felt pity.. for instance, the hurt lockers wasn't the best film of the nomminated list at all, both english films that got nomminated, a single man and an education and also tarantino's inglourious basterds, would kick the hurt locker's ass any day of the week and yet*
This movie is prfect. Great soundtrack, great story, amazing performances.Carey deserved to win an oscar, i cant believe sandra bullock won, it just doesnt make any sense
@thelivingend12345679 nooo... i mean...i would understand idk... hellen but sandra.. i dont even see the academy awards the same way anymore... the last ones were painful to watch...
this movie gave me the chills. It's so twisted and heartbreaking. I've been watching all the Oscar nominated films. And of all the women nominated for Best Actress, I think Carey Mulligan should have won [granted I did not see Helen Mirren in The Last Station].
In my humble opinion, An Education was breathtaking.
@roxmysox416 Helen Mirren was wonderful in the Last Station, heart-breaking performance. It'd be a close call for me, but I really think that Carey Mulligan had a tougher position, since she could have fallen into a very chliché portrayal of her 'personnage' : ) she deserved acknowledgement!
The song sounds good indeed..But the lyrics about how great PARIS is which is totally untrue...The song was originally sang by Edith Piaf and she sang it for the first time in 1954 which probably when that city was worth the song...But now it is not much different than LONDON...I live in Barcelona now.. And it is AWESOME..Recommend you all..
@TheBaha1907 but Paris looks and feels great! I guess it depends on what you're looking for...if you appreciate the well-preserved history of Paris, that's the place to be. If you're looking for exotic, modern cities, Barcelona suits the description better. And so what if Paris resembles London?...
@chokow37 I don't know. As a movie, it offers a nice message. But still I cannot stand the fact that someone as clever as jenny acts a total idiot! Anyway, the 60's atmosphere is wonderful
@missmarionk But it was based on a memoir by the journalist Lynn Barber, who in 1961 was a bright young student who was seduced by an older man, as were her parents. Therefore, it's hardly surprising that the film tells the same story.
@cbak12sg I know that and I don't doubt any facts. I'm just saying that Jenny's behaviour got on my nerves. And her parents' for the matter. So that spoiled the movie for me.
