rapture is very different from rupture. If the boss had a rapture effect on it, it would marvel at the rogue killing it frequently, being enraptured by said rogue.

Rupturing kills, rapture doesn't. I don't mean it in a bad way, but you spelled it wrong 3 times in one paragraph, in response to someone who spelled it correctly.

Hey dude , do you do most dps then combat rogues in a single target dps? Or do combat rogues usually beat you . Im pvp mutilate and pve combat . Mut is hell fun , but im not sure if I should give up combat . Maybe you could spec to combat and do a video? :D

But i dont get it, i have the same rotation as here, i have 5917 gearscore and pretty good hasterating but i do max 11k dps while my friend with 5.8k gearscore does 13k dps. help me if u can

@ZopX if you want to leave your toons name and realm i will check him out on armory if you would like. Theres a few things which may be holding back your dps that are gear related. The rotation is really simple so its unlikely you yourself are doing anything wrong.

You shouldn't be socketting 1 type of gem. AP for red, Ap+haste for Yellow & 1 nightmare tear will activate your meta.

@badexperiment if your in BiS gear yeah but given the lad was asking about how to activate a meta gem if hes gemming full AP, I would guess hes not. Fact is blindly gemming full anything is not getting the best from your gear, with any class with the exception of maybe tanks.

This is Darkdescent from Magtheradon realm (us)...I'm a little over 5k g/s . Getting gear as I can as most. Since I duel spec (mut/ combat), I have one hulluva time choosing ap over ag... Tried using a spread sheeet but unfortunately I'm too dense to use it. Woulp Ap gemming benifit both mut and combat at the say 251 gear levels?

@chikung1000 If you want to be using the same gear for both, use agility gems. Most of the time the spreadsheets recommend agility or Armour penetration for combat. That said, agility is old school assasination, its only in recent patches people have gemmed attack power.

@jessmanp correct, this is a raptureless rotation, you can include rapture when fighting a boss with a group that don't have bleed effects on the target but multiple tests and simulations have shown that at the moment your dps will be higher leaving out rapture and just using envenom on your combo points.

obviously though, keeping Hunger for Blood active is a priority so use rapture as needed.

dont gem for ArP as mutilate. Attack power buffs poisons as well as ur attacks. Since poisons ignore armor and are the majority of ur damage u can get a much higher dps with AP gems. also look for it on gear more than ArP

@JackMCFCShaw gem for straight AP. let agility and crit come from the gear's stats. If you are going combat then that is the only time you should gem agility but only until you get into high end ToC gear. then you move to ArP.

@Lecrie  If your mutilate is available to be used it will use mutilate, otherwise it will start autoattack, the point of the macro is to minimise time where a target isn't taking damage.

@darklord809 the 25 energy one, i don't have a reason behind the choice it was just in the spec i copied off. I guess it makes sense though, its better to hit more often than to hit higher.

@redxify latest i've read people are finding they are getting more dps out of deadly MH - instant OH. Previously everyone was claiming the opposite was better. It is somewhat gear dependant so if it really worries you i would test out each combination on a combat dummy.

@aceofthefang Ok, first off your expertise rating is 6, the cap is 26 raise it to that, you can afford to reduce hit rating a bit, your haste and crit are both fairly low I'd work on building them up, also only use epic gems and never gem stamina, forget the socket bonus and gem for ap or in your case expertise first then haste. Hope this helps

Wouldn't it be better to alternate between rupture and envenom? Or at the very least use rupture to reapply hunger for blood?

@Brrc509 If you have no one in group with bleed effects then yes, rapture for the purpose of reapplying is required. However a raptureless rotation will give you a higher dps than a rotation that keeps the dot renewed. Most rogues I talk to have found the same.

I'd like to clarify something about the fastest weapon in your offhand. Your highest dps weapon should be in your main hand, regardless of speed. If both weapons are of equal speed it's actually better to keep your fast weapon in your mainhand vs. the slow (check out EJ's Rogue FAQ for more info - it's negligible, but at least on my rogue I did pick up a couple of hundred DPS by switching to a fast mainhand.

@Nyterayven Thanks, i had read something similar on EJ in the pocketguide thread, because both my weapons are the same i hadn't really paid too much attention to it though. All other guides seem to go by speed but EJ is the only trustworthy source.

@xXBASEBALLBEAStXx123 only advice i have for handling groups while levelling is to respec combat for killing spree and blade flurry, unfortunately assination isn't really suited for aoe damage.

'elitist jerk' is a handy website to learn more about each spec type as well (google it), hope this helps in some way.

@northy179 @northy179 I've been doing loads of research on this, the most updated info I've found suggests gemming to get Expertise to 26 and Hit to 350, then building up haste and AP; some rogues still stack Agi. Haste is your best friend, since it gives a better chance of your poisons being applied.

Yes ArP is combat oriented, and cata is completely removing ArP so I'm not even bothering with it til I see what the outcome of the changes are.

@pearlsnpjs good work with that! yeah my expertise is capped and hit is fairly high now so i pretty much decided any gear i replace i will fill yellow sockets with haste and red with AP, if blue comes up decide if its worth sacrificing the gem colour bonus for some extra haste. I'm not too worried about Cata changes yet, from the loot previews ive seen it won't take long to replace all ICC gear with greens and blues so best to think about right now when gearing.
