I wish I would have bought the D2 rather than the hip hop oriented Akai Xr-20- truth be told I didn't know I was buying a rap machine. So now I plan to get the D2 and what's a good price to get one for?
gooooood! i´m often surprised what a accomplished sound can hold out a single groovebox when the soundconstructor use the gear well. some more vids with the other gears would be nice :)
My comment was a reply to an older comment. But no, i'm not comparing this to kaosspads because there's nothing special about touchpads, the specific applications however is special - in that light i'm comparing this to the kaossilator, but not the kaosspads...
As this predates the kaossilator but works in much the same way, i'd claim that the kaossilator owes some heritage to this, concept-wise...
This is not a sampler as the sounds are internal to the D2. The sounds, drum kits and sequencer are very similar to the Roland MC-505 just a bit more modern.
It can be connected to a PC/Mac via a midi interface and can then be programmed via your DAW e.g. Logic or Ableton. Although I know that this track is sequenced and created using only the D2.
Those little rubber buttons feel so nice it is really tacktile machine...you think your gonna hate this orange plastic thing, but I love the feel of it.
Samples of some of the bass lack energy, but there are some really good things to it, it is a mc505 with some added sounds basically.
Hey man, thanks for the invite! This is quality man...really nice beats...always good to have more live techno peeps on YouTube. And when that bassline drops...ooooft! It certainly put a smile on my face. ;)
The D2 looks great for hands on control, I've never actually even heard of it! Looking forward to hearing more from you man..looks very like a 909 on the right hand side of the screen there?!

Underrated machine for sure. Just bought one and while it is tricky at first, it's a very dynamic sequencer.

Watching this video, its clear that Korg copied the Roland D2 when they designed their Kaossilator.
Roland should sue Korg.

Roland D2 was around many years before the Korg Kaossilator.. there is nothing new about the Kaossilator Pro..
even though its already 10 years old, the D2 still has the deeper features.

does the D2 have midi?
driftster99 1 year ago
Of course.
MIDI has been around since 1983.
D2 came out in 2000.

MC-505
MC-307
D-2
JX-305
EG-101
Groovegear all by Roland.
All have the same basic MC-505 engine based on JV,
but which is better, easier, more fun to perform with???

very nice techno, mate.
i'm thinking of the d2 or the mc-307 as live compliment to my yamaha rs7000...
i guess the main choice is do i want the d-beam of the d2 or the turntable pitch of the 307 to aid beatmatching?
whatya reckon?
dhollseed 2 years ago 2
D2 is a very fat sounding sample based groovebox and the 307 is polyphonic. Depends on your needs, but a D2 can be picked up for less on ebay.

i think the D2 was an answer from roland to the korg chaos-pad
mentalmistake 2 years ago
I'd rather say, based on date of production, that the Korg Kaossilator is an answer to this.
MarctheDarc 2 years ago
so korg just copied the chaospad out of a groovebox with a chaospad...?

My comment was a reply to an older comment. But no, i'm not comparing this to kaosspads because there's nothing special about touchpads, the specific applications however is special - in that light i'm comparing this to the kaossilator, but not the kaosspads...

excellent, like the acid sounds. how are they made, it has no synth just built in samples right? looks like an interesting machine
bluemanontelly 3 years ago
Similar than mc 307, the 4 layer can be controled by mc 307 by using the Lcd of mc 307 and routing the midi to D2, at diferent channel midis.

how do you put sounds on that thing, can you connect it to a pc?

DaveTech2000 3 years ago
D2 - Very hands on, nice controls and new sounds
307 - Nice lcd screen and a few more sounds than D2.
MC505 - The original - has older and classic sounds, bass boost function and great control sections.
BenLinkd 3 years ago 4
D2, 307 are both based on 505, but made later so improved functions.. which of these 3 do you recommend?
haikousei 3 years ago 3
I've got to go back to the drawing board. Very tight piece of minimal techno. D2 is really gorgeous.

It's a mc505 in a orange box.
Is it true the software editor for the 505 only works with win 98.
I thought I got it working with my d2 but haven't used this machine in a while.
Nice work, I just find rolands seq on these things a bit hard to get into.
Very nice stuff though, thanks for subbing!
