Wheels, not for VO. VO on 416 is played level but off center. If you don't do that you lose all the highs because of the end-file directionality of the shotgun. You ARE TOTALLY correct about recording dialog, it's from above or below. But it's not like a Neumann where you can hang it ligher and still not lose any brightness. Pointing it down in front of him produces "off mic" mud sound.

I'm glad you posted this. It's a classic! Spot on, too. I'm a veteran voice actor, and I've been through many sessions likes this. It's not just the fact that the director is critiquing every frigging syllable, but he's got 4 or 5 other "experts" in the booth chiming in! It can make even the jolliest voice-actor want to throw the mic through the window.
