Oktoberfest was actually based off a wedding celebration between Bavarian royalty. The reception party went on for about 3 weeks and it became a tradition afterward.
@bunnyz324 there is a lot more to Oktoberfest then drinking, but being as you are neither Bayrisch or from Munchen you probably know nothing of the history or traditions behind it.
@locajajajabnonotanto its not only about drinking beer and eating sausages. actually it is a very traditional event ! the bavarian royalty invited the citizens of munich to attend the festivities of a royal wedding, i think that was in the 19th century. and now we celebrate this every year with a lot of beer! :)
@locajajajabnonotanto The original celebration was actually a Wedding Reception for royality- apparently they liked all the celebrations so much they did it the next year...and the next...and the next.... ;P But it wasn't just drinking originally, there were horse races, and other celebrations as well.
@locajajajabnonotanto The origin of the Oktoberfest is the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Because of this, there were horse races at the "Theresienwiese", which is now the Oktoberfest
@locajajajabnonotanto Its like the Swiss Festival in Neuchatel, Fete Des Vendage, which is a wine festival, celebrating the harvest of the grapes for wine making.
@locajajajabnonotanto Oktoberfest began as the first celebration (reception) ever thrown for the public after the Royal Wedding of King Ludwig I, and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in October 1810. Ever since it has been celebrated in the same valley Wiesn (short) or Theresienwiese, now a suburb of München. Lots of beer, but lots of music, song, food, friendship, and some rides. Most sausages are Damn tasty, and other food too! Today it's more about gemütluchkeit, sort of!
@locajajajabnonotanto the celebration is about the royal wedding of the King Ludwig I. of Bavaria with his Wife Therese. And the place, where the Oktoberfest is, is called Theresienwiese ( Field of Therese)
@locajajajabnonotanto Originally formed to celebrate the coming of Autumn, or in this case October. they abide by the "RheinsheitGebot" OR German purity law of 1316 for their beer. ive been there, its lots and lots of fun. Traditionally the mayor of Munich gets the first draft of beer.
going to hamburg this spring, my great grand father came over to usa in 1867, family name Pauli. (we have st. pauli girl beer here) not sold in the old country.
@brasers ahaha you seem not to know the difference betwen history and present.... or that you get a lot of trouble with the police when you say that on a german street. USA has more nazis than germany today

I hope this helps you to understand german culture and have good time listening to german songs and drinking german beer ;)

Tennessee has a very rich musical heritage -blues and rock and roll in West Tennessee, country in Middle Tennessee and mountain/string band music in East Tennessee.
Do what you have to do to move back to you beloved land and stop criticizing the culture where you currently live, ya?
Some folks don't get that they should enjoy life rather than be bitter. sheepies & 056716 should get off their arschen und teach new songs to their friends in TN and learn theirs in TN.
It's not like beer has a nationality. Or they could get off their butts and go to someplace locally with an Oktoberfest.
