Starship sold over 100 million albums worldwide, they toured all over the world, they began as Jefferson Airplane and later became Jefferson Starship and in the end they became known as Starship, they are real music artists that sang real music, this is one of the greatest songs in music history, this is real music, this song was a big top 40 hit on the Billboard chart s here in the United States that become an even bigger top 10 hit worldwide, they are great music artists, this is a great song
This song honestly makes me wish I grew up in the '80s, I was born in 1992. I hate today's music and really the only music I listen to is stuff that came out in the '70s and '80s.
@4RM0 It truly was an indelibly great decade, and Starship's one band that continually takes me back to my youth! As a Gen-Xer, I commend U on your good taste ;)
almost hit the top 10 but stalled at #12 in early fall of 1989 .....sort of reminds me of Richard Marx "Angelia" which was out about the same time this song was on the chart...anyway a great lost hit...thanks for posting
@PopCulture20 Inever heard that particular song by Trey Songz but I have heard "Say Ahh" which to me has no appeal at all. Obiviously your a 21 year old who appreciates really GOOD pop music .I was 21 in 1983 so I pretty much went through the 80s in my 20s and I wouldnt trade that for ANYTHING.And by the way, the 70s were great too!
@chrisporter61 Yep you nailed it!!!! lol ''Bottoms Up'' is the new single off Trey Songz upcoming album and I just wanted you to see how degenerating music has become which is why I always turn to the older stuff from the 70s, 80s, & 90s just to get a fulfillment and some inspiration.
@tannerjahe2 I know, it was the best times for music, clothes...people actually cared how they looked, not like now with the slum wear. Oh those were the days!
@tannerjahe2 I envy you. I was just a kid in the 80s so I really did not get to really appreciate it. I wish I was born in the late 60s instead of 77.
@RetroJenny I agree. I was born in 82 and remember my cousins always playing their music. I grew up listening to the 80's and I hate how I've missed out on so much. I prefer this music over the music today.
It's interesting that you would say that cuz it was written by one of my fav singer/songwriters - Martin Page. He wrote songs for many popular artists: EWF (Magnetic), Heart (These Dreams), Go West (King of Wishful Thinking/Faithful), Paul Young (Right About Now) & Starship's biggest hit "We Built This City". He also had his own big hit song back in 1994 with "In the House of Stone and Light". Pretty talented guy.
@dancemusic04 come to think of it....'"Thought I Died And Gone To Heaven" might be the song you're thinking of which was a top 10 hit for Bryan Adams in the summer of 1992
@DaveWollenberg No, she didn't left Starship because she was too old. She left to join some of the original members of Jefferson Airplane that at the time (late 80's) had reunited for a tour.
I have to agree with you buddy! It used to to be you could listen to a song and it would NEVER get old. Now after one listening it's garbage!!! What happened???
@Ficozzy This album was actually produced by Mutt Lange who is the same producer that worked with Def Lepard in the 80's. There's even a song on this album written by Lange that sounds very much like something off of Hysteria called "I Didn't Mean to Stay All Night". When I first heard the harmony vocals I almost thought Def Lepard were doing them but it was all Starship. Terrific album though. Too bad it was their last one cuz they were still on fire creatively during this time.
Wow, Mickey sure sold his soul to the Devil. It makes sense too because a few years ago he showed up on a Sammy Hagar album; another guy who's soul belongs to Old Scratch.
Shipmate1936, very cute. What I mean is if you listen to those Elvin Bishop records on which Mickey sang, he was inspired and inspiring and made genuine music regardless of its pop appeal. Starship on teh other hand is the opposite of that; saccharin, contrived and aimed only at appealing to the average 19 year old. I'm not a Mickey hater, in fact I'm a big fan but let's get down to brass tacks and call it like it is. This is schlock.
You guys said it! Songs like this are actual MUSIC, not corporate crap. Real talent, not $99 Casio keyboards spewing out 4-measure loops for 3-4 minutes. These are real ballads-real songs. Most of today's singer's couldn't carry Mickey Thomas' lunchbox. Nice tune! No Way Out is great too.
Now tell me what great timeless rock songs are being made by today's corporations--er, I mean, bands lol :P. There's a reason everyone keeps coming back to these great songs and the quality Metal/Rock of the late 70's/80's.
GREAT tune. Starship is underappreciated. Another great tune is No Way Out! Classic - If you like this song, Starship's Jane and No Way Out are phenom

I remember in summer 1989 turning the volume up on the loud guitars on the verses and choruses in the song when it played on the radio! Good and loud! Still do to this day. Didn't know until years later that Mike Shipley produced it. It made me respect Shipley more as a producer along with being a mixer on many of the Mutt Lange productions for Def Leppard's albums. And his later mixing for artists like Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill, Andrew WK, and more current bands.

This song is from 1989. Obomba and any other political scum of this day and age has nothing to do with it.
hey, you can't make fun of the greatest person ever. I mean, Godbama is going to make the world a perfect place. Na, really, just kidding, I'll give him a chance, but people act like he's the second coming. I agree, though, this song is from a MUCH MUCH better time.
