You still need a disc, but the reason i do it is because a good portion of my games have been scratched from someone kicking the xbox or something. Everytime it happens the game wont play, but if you have it downloaded to your HD the scratched disc works perfectly.

@crazyguy8848 Of course it doesn't work if the game is scratched then the disc drive can't read the scratched part of the disc in order to copy it to the hard drive. The purpose of this is to install before the disc is scratched or damaged.

You need the hard drive to play Installed games. The only way you can on a different console is to transfer the hard drive to the other console. One Xbox to the Other.

This is for people that came here because they wanted to know how to fix your unreadable disk. When you install a game to your hard drive you can play the game without your disk actually spinning. If you do have a unreadable disk then borrow a friends disk or rent a disk from a store (ex. Blockbusters for Americans... Thats entertainment for Canadians, install the game like this video shows you, then you will be able to play your unreadable disk. THUMBS UP SO PEOPLE CAN SEE THIS :D

@DardanXD Yeah give the disk you borrowed back to your friend, then you can play the scratched one. Make sure your installing the borrowed one to the hard drive, dont install the scratched one because it wont work because the game is not reconizable.

@JacksMagicBean Hey i actually just borrowed my friends Black Ops because i had a somewhat similar problem. You need to know if your game will at least read in the Xbox or not. If it reads but then once you try to play it something pops up like "the disk may be dirty or damaged" then it will work when you download your friends copy to the hard drive. If the game won't read at all then you need a new copy of Black Ops. Hope this helps.

If you have the new 360 slim, you will need a new hard drive specifically for your new console. The old 360 pro hard drives aren't compatible. If you lay your 360 slim horizontally, there is a lever/pull switch on the right side near the bak of the console. Pull the switch and take the panel off, thats where the expansion hard drive goes.

@rome98jr If you get a copy of the game (different unscratched one- possibly from a friend) then install the unscratched one, you can play the scratched one like a fixed one with the installed copy's data, Savvy (my explanation was kinda long winded and complex, message me for details! :)
