The name of the shiba is "Jiro", not sure about his age or where Jiro & his master live but I assume somewhere up north or regions facing the Sea of Japan where it gets freezing cold. The fire place is called "Irori", which is a traditional Japanese heating system used to warm the house & cooking as you may have noticed. When Jiro closes hi eyes he resembles fox.

His master takes much joy in Jiro.... an all embracing bond between the two. I did wonder about the fireplace and now question its efficiency if it is the only source of heat.... I often see Jiro's cold breath INSIDE the home! But it is a home warmed throughout with love and happiness. Thank you!
Jiro is probably turning 6 years old by now (the caption on the other film denoted Jiro was 3.5 years old in Feb 2009). See if you can ask the master via PM.
