  • なんだこれは。ライブにしちゃ気持ち悪いくらいにサウンドが抜群だぜ!

  • I saw Al jarreau last night in new Orleans. He song a few arrangements that Jay grayson wrote. Larry Williams and Joe taurruno are just amazing. Does Arno Lucas still play with Al? I didn't see any conga player last night.

  • Airplay is one of my favorite 80's group.".should we carry on" was one of our repertoire. i missed our band. Sweet Blood....

  • Jay claims he doesn't like singing, and did it out of necessity. I think he's a fine singer.

  • gandalf omn bass XD

  • I love it when talented musicians get together, this has more talent in 4 bars than any whole song by any hiphop artist. This music is a result of intelligence hiphop is a result of mtvs' manipulative dumb the viewer down methods,it's easy to sell garbage to those who don't know any better;just like McDonalds is good to someone who's never had a thick juicy backyard grill burger cooked to perfection.

  • JAY GRAYDON PRODUCED AL JERRAU 2 ALBUM AND ALSO PLAYED GUITAR .THATS WHY SOME OF THESE ARRANGEMENTS SOUND SIMILAR.OF THOSE A.J ALBUMS BACK IN 1982

  • That bass player KILLS!!

  • uh brecker + hey = orgasm

  • Foster, Graydon, Sklar, Hey and you top it off with Larry Friekin' Williams!!! Why don't you just shoot me now?!

What a joy it would be to see all these guys live. I wish they would do that here in the US.

I learned all I know, musically from these guys!!! If you've never heard Williams play keys, check out Spain by Al Jarreau. That's how I learned to fly.

  • なんと!!

    この曲のボーカルはトミーじゃなくて

    ジェイだったのか!!!

  • Best horn section I've heard!

That is actually Larry Williams on sax with the Legolas hair.

(Our L to R): Larry Williams (sax), Jerry Hey (trumpet), Gary Grant (trumpet), Bill Reichenbach (trombone).

  • omg.....that bassist is epic!! :D

  • they sound like wham!george michael:)

  • hey that's leland sklar on the bass!

  • its a crime to be this good...singer,songwriter,guitarist,producer....graydon,foster,champlin,porcaro bros.. ,paich,lukather,goodrum,bozz.....im glad i belonged to that era...

  • thank's for this video!!!

  • This is gr8...thanx.. what a freekin' band..the brass vibrates the feel.....hellloooooooooooooooooooooo...

  • Jay Graydon lip-syncing but actually playing his guitar solo. Warren is of course really singing.

  • @BillCBurgess It would actually be a greater achievement of all music was live and his voice were singback, than everything live. Not everyone is has a lousy live-voice (like most "artists" have today).

  • BONER ALERT!!!! ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!! 2:30

  • Jerry Hey and his brass/horn section

  • Who's on the drums¨?

Incredible man would give everything to see this guys

  • wHO'S ON THE DRUMS?

    Is it Dennis?

  • @Oslix12

The drummer is Chester Thompson from Genesis fame!! One Bad Ass Groover that man is!!

  • @porcaro4ever Fuck Genesis, that's Chester Thompson from Zappa/Weather Report fame!!!!!

And Bad Ass should be spelt Bad Asss..

    xx

  • Great performance....wow

  • Oh that bass line at 2:30 is very sweet. Who is that on bass?

  • @umpire504 Lee Sklar on bass.

Cousin It is one of my fave bassists.

  • WTF! Is this lip-sync!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • absolutely incredible in every way possible!

  • Where's Tommy Funderburke?

  • I had to sync it with the album and sure enough... its him in the studio... what a disappointment. However, now I can put a lossless overlay over this, sounds pretty good actually :)

  • @katiewuzhere101 , really? Awesome.

  • what a song ,what a amazing musicians and what a great looking guitar

  • Jay Graydon is not singing live here. Vocals are from the Airplay album.

  • @mullinulli Correct.

  • I've also never thought that this tune could be realized, reenacted on live stage. Marvelous!! Jay, Sklar, David and others. You're perfect, American galaxy ensemble!!

  • FANTASTIC GROOVE

  • Two legends of music!!! awesome song!!!!

  • 懐かしいけど今でも新鮮です。

    何故か泣けてくるくらい嬉しい。

  • Lee Sklar at 2:30 --- You GOOOO!!! :-)

  • hi, is a DVD from this Concert available? thanks

  • Fans of Jay Graydon should check out the album Scene 29, it's a collaboration between him and Randy Goodrum. It's absolutely phenomenal.

  • WOOOW, didn't know Jay could sing that well! Very Toto-esque, f***ing great!

  • @mirzamarco Hate to be the one to tell you, but It's not Jay singing.

  • @EnzoScifo ...What do you mean? It's sooo him!

  • wow !! I went there place 15years ago

this is 94 JT SUPER PRODEUCERS CONCERT at Budokan (Tokyo)

JT is Japanese famous tabacco company

David invited Jay Graydon also Peabo Bryson,Celine Dion, others

  • Kind of odd this same horn section did the Duck Tales theme..and of course just about every movie soundtrack or song since the 70's. Who will replace them I wonder?

  • Apparently it's Warren Wiebe on the right of Jay, doing harmony vocals. I also saw one glimpse of Lee Sklar on the bass. Great video!

  • Wonderful!!! Huge thanks for putting this one up!!

  • Jay Graydon sang lead on the original recording. The Airplay 25th Anniversary reissue CD liner notes have a song-by-song interview with Tommy Funderburk:

    ---

"Nothin' You Can Do About It"

TF.: That is Jay Graydon. I'm singing the harmony.

(Interviewer): Yes. Only you on the background vocals?

T.F.: Yeah. We kind of did a duet in choruses. They were more than just background that became a part of the song. It was Jay singing the lead.

    ---

    Hope that ends the controversy.

  • Brilliant.......just BRILLIANT!

    Love it!

    ;)

  • Thanks for sharing this Mine! I've been a big fan of Jay's talent ever since he played on "Storm at Sunup" and also for his work with Al Jareau, Man Tran and Steely Dan etc.Quite brilliant as you say!!

  • この曲のvoってジェイだったのね。

    歌っても上手い!(・∀・)

  • 2:30

  • kakkoyosugiru!

  • saiko!

  • I like this versions so much better than Manhatten Transfer's version. I had heard Graydon play, never heard him sing...this works folks....smooth unstrained delivery. Just great...

  • the vocals are just playback on this one, it's not graydon who actually sings

  • ...and your authority for that would be?

That is Jay's voice, and it sounds and looks live.

    Bullshit "experts" should STFU.

  • sorry jnhobbs but the other guy's right, the vocals are identical to Tommy Funderburk's vocals on the original recording.

  • I've studied the Airplay album for about two years now, as we're putting together an Airplay tribute band (coming on YouTube soon), and won't consider myself an "expert", but due to my analysis of the guitar/vocal harmonies, I have to say that the vocal track on this performance is identical to the album version. ... Just watch the JG All Stars DVD from Japan. That one's live, and not nearly as perfect.

And I'm afraid it's not Funderburk on the original. All Jay.

  • Hi! Do you know where to buy JG All stars DVD on the internet? I've searched at Amazon but found nothing...

  • I bought my two copies on Ebay. I'm sure you'll find it. Good luck!

  • By the way, make sure you get the version with the red cover, not the purple one. The red one contains a bonus DVD with a bootleg video from JG All Stars in Stockholm in '96, with Tommy Funderburk!! Priceless! Enjoy the ride..

  • Nope. I'm wrong about Funderburk not being on top on this one. I mixed it up with "Should We Carry On", which is only Jay vocals. Sorry.

  • Awsome tune! Too bad it's singback. Look at the way he's moving and turning away from the mic, and the vocals are still perfect. But TF is a great singer though...

  • this is gold!!!

  • Why is it so difficult to find something where Graydon actually performs some more substantial of his famous guitar playing?

  • Look for Al Jeareu's albums. I think most of the guitar work on "Breakin Away" is Jay. (and other albums as well) Check out the track "Black & Blues" it's filled with the tastiest liks and riffs this side of Guitarland....

  • And don't forget JERRY HEY and the bad ass brass. Holy cow, what a crew of bad ass mother f$#@krs !!!!

  • i gree.

I'd like to have Jerry Hey's playing ability for just one hour, during a real recording session.

  • Me too. He's just spot on every time..

  • @andresetc yeah... mo-freakin-fo !

I LVOE that horn section. They've played together on MANY albums.

  • this is just a great song. Manhatten Transfer covered it on the breakthrough album Extensions. I love this song. It is really about what is going to happen when the consciousness of the world changes.

  • That bass playing is in overdrive....

  • Other than Foster and Graydon, I see Leland Sklar (bass) and Chester Thompson (drums). Can anyone recognize any of the other band? And who's the guy doing backing Jay on vocals?

  • The other singer is a guy who worked with a few of Jay's contemporaries..great upper register for vocal arrangements..he died a few years ago..I just can't remember his name

  • His name is "Warren Wiebe." Sadly he passed away a few years ago. Incidentally he was discovered by Mr.Foster in the restroom of a hotel bar in 1987

  • He's my relative!!! Yes I didn't know he did this :D

  • cool song and great performance

i really want to see the rest of the concert

  • Awesome video!!

Great performance. Love this song to death!

  • the first time ever, I saw one of my favorites guitar player performed.. GREAT

  • what a treat , that elusive musical hybrid called David Foster-Jay Graydon recorded live on video. I`ve waited years for this having adored all the old Jarreau,ManTran,Debarge,Dionne Warwick etc albums. By the way the best way to check out the singer to the right of Jay is to get Foster`s 1990 album River of Love. His name is Warren Wiebe (sadly departed), and he delivers outstandingly especially on the Brian Wilson co-written song "Is there a chance".

  • taped? these are real musicians and singers who can actually play! all first call session players. if this was ashley simpson and her band, i would see an absolute need to tape the show and lip sync. when you see singers neck veins distended, it usually means they are singing so i don't know what you are seeing to make you think it's not live. maybe it's the music and the video out of sync when it was posted...

  • its NOT what im seeing... its what im hearing.

  • ok! what are you hearing. that it's too perfect? be specific.

  • Anyone know the hip big guy with the high voice singing next to Jay? This guys the man!!

  • john popper?

  • Jay got just as many session gigs for his vocals as he did for his guitar. Will Lee (of David Letterman fame) is another session guy who has a great set of pipes. Being a good musician isn't always enough...there are tons of players who are really, really good. If you have other abilities that set you apart, you're that much better off.

  • But it's a great song and the horn arr's awesome.

  • I agree, his singing is too perfect. Must be taped. Those things is why I can't enjoy Garydon and Foster, there's only machines on their records and now this, singback, pretending it is live.

    /Clas

  • those Seawind Horns are insane!!! What great writing and incredible playing!

  • I doubt if Jay is really singing on this stage. His pitch is too perfect and consistent for a live performance. After reviewing this video for many times, I am now almost sure his vocal performance was taped. I love this song and respect him as a singer and guitarist, but it is sad (especially for the Japanese fans) if my suspicion is at the mark.

  • i wonder the same myself. its flawless.

the big mustache harmony guy is too much!

  • @lephiliatre :it's a live performance

  • @kevinherbert Yeah, live with recorded voice,

  • Never knew this song - but Jay Graydon and David Foster are ridiculous - this is an amazing song and amazing performance! Thanks for posting

  • God bless Jeff Porcaro, but Chester Thompson sounds great in this tune though...

  • Dang, old Jay has some tubes...father time is a nice touch to this vid too.

Thanks for posting...now to look at some more of your excellent fare.

  • I assume you're referring to the point in the video when we all get Sklar'd right in the face.

  • damn......superb!

  • You know, this is why I no longer "want my MTV"! God bless all those great LA musicians, and the late, GREAT Jeff Porcaro who was the "groove" behind this awesome tune!

  • Leland Sklar (playing bass) is a cool looking dude (I hear that they call him "father time")

  • I think "Cousin It"

  • True music, by true people.

  • Does anybody know wether Can't let go is composed by David Foster

  • does anybody know wether Can't let go is composed by David Foster? A little help, please!

  • I first heard this song on the Manhattan Transfers album ; Mecca for the Moderens,

which was produced by Jay Graydon.

  • The Album was Extensions, not Mecca for Moderns, though they were both produced by Jay Graydon

  • the most incredible song ive ever heard.

  • now ,my incredible song is

in the stone →can't let go tune.

    ew&f

  • You are probably right - In The Stone Cant let Go are amazing!

  • @DoubleWonderful : I'm right with you on that score....
