That's easy to explain, a fly might look dead but in fact is alive and well, possibly faking death for self preservation or just stunned, I once hit a fly and thought it looked pretty dead on the ground, and few minutes later the very same fly was buzzing happily around, forcing me to take the effort and kill it a second time. Moral of the story - shoot the fly in the head to be sure. Or better yet, use magic to make it disapear.

This was obvious... when flies are put into a cold place, such as a freezer, they enter a state of hibernation.. when warmed up they awaken.. I had lots of fun with this actually... hahahahaha take 3 matches and chop them up to create a little airplane. Then take the frozen hibernating flies and glue them to strategic places along the frame.. when they warm up they will then try to fly away.. watch your little plane fly!!! hahahaha

Then he would rub his hands or something to warm them and his body heat just simply unfreezes the fly. And its completely harmless to the fly. Ive actually did it before

The explanation is actually very simple: the fly is not dead, it's just in a cold induced coma (achieved by previously putting it in the freezer). You then have to practice your gestures, get a grasp on how long it will take for the fly to "revive" and voilà, you have a magic trick.

It could be simpler the "cooling" the fly down. When I was a kid I used to catch flys, then slam them into the concrete floor. This would knock them out for a few seconds (10-20 maybe) so I could drop them into a spider web. They would eventually wake up, buzz around, and become dinner. Still really cool to watch.
