@britec09 hi even tho I saw the fix boot manager video, I'm still having problems.
I don't have the vistas cd, but I have system recovery options preinstalled.
I did everything: startup first, it told me it can't fix automatically.
I went to command prompt fix bootrec, complete successfully, then did both shutdown and restart at different times, and it still led me back to the blue screen.
The problem is that my vista is corrupt. Can't wipe it all off using Alt+F10 because it doesn't work. I can't do it from inside that Vista either because it doesn't let you. Plus it says that only 1GB is free from 73GB space but I can only see stuff that's not even 10GB. I want to wipe it all off. Can I buy a bootable CD from somewhere?
if you want a free recovery disc just get a blank disc and someone you know with a pc with windows 7 then go to the pc then click start control panel, back up your computer and at the side it will say create system restore disk click that then insert the disk then click create disck.
Mine says x: but using the bootrec fixmbr says "device is not ready". Now what? This thing was working fine yesterday and now I cannot turn on my computer?
Your a complete life saver. I had the problem for 2 days already and tried everything and spend the entire weekend trying to solve this but THANKS TO YOU my computer now works!!!! And I did this on Windows 7 ultimate. THANK YOU so much! :)
I have this problem on a Netbook (which doesnt have a CD drive) so I am wondering how I could possibly fix this problem. I am thinking that you can use a USB Thumb drive with some sort of ISO on it, instead of using a CD. But I am not sure how I would go about doing this. Please respond if you can. Thanks...
when I get to 1.50 in this video, no operating system is shown on mine when I boot from the CD, I dont think it loads up my C drive, so I can't do sytem restore or anything, please help
I've made the computer boot from the recovery DVD and it gets passed the "loading windows files" then immediately goes into a blue screen of death, the one I'm trying to get rid of :(

Well I cant find anything that says Microsoft Windows Vista after it searches. The box is blank. So I click Load Drivers & click on the C drive and D drive to not find Microsoft Windows Vista. Yup looks like I'm going to need some help.
Continuing on from my prior msg. I tried to still follow the method even after not locating the drives. After entering the entire bcdedit /export c:\bcd_backup on cmd I received. The store export operation has failed. The system cannot find the file specified. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact I couldn't find the Windows Vista drive at the beginning. I'm getting dizzy trying to figure this out to why after everything I'm trying to do it's like my PC is making fun & toying with me.
Okay I couldn't find any drives when it was looking for my hard drive. So what am I'm suppose to do? I went to the local C & D to see if it would be selected after I clicked it. All it did was take me to the contents inside the drive but I couldn't select the drive to open it.
@hmakky it wont work.. see this video shows that the booting process was corrupted but the entire windows programs and files were still on their folders..just the start up or initial bootsector files were bad..so that is what this video is about..but u formatted your HD..so all windows components are erased...that is what I understood, unless when he downloaded, he actually downloaded the recovery software..
Well i downloaded the Vista 64 bit torrent and everything and slipped the disk into the computer, ran the disk, clicked on repair, then onto Microsoft Vista 3163 MB Local disk C, clicked on next and it said "This version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disk with this version of windows."

Great video, it was a headache working with the stupid problem for about a week and i got it done in a matter of minutes with this vid, thanks keep up the good work.
Close this discussion by saying that I think the issue may be "virus" related. Cant guarantee anything but thanks very much for helping expand my knowledge :)
Not sure which option worked but I didnt change the US options to UK keyboard and I didnt select/highlight the Windows Vista option but just pressed enter and that led me to the Recovery Tool option.
Unfortunately after all that the laptop's still failing to boot up - just doing the usual cycle of startup then Safe Recovery etc. Is there any benefit running bcd.exe in safe mode ?
Thanks for all your advice. I burned the DVD and booted up with it. Got all the way to "Repair" option but then the laptop went straight to Vista's Startup repair without giving me an option to choose a recovery tool. Therefore couldnt access the Command Prompt option.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH DAWG! This here vid really helped me get out of a pinch. I tell you, when I had startup problems, all I can do is go tsafe mode and I CANNOT get any sound whatsoever. I should send you a gift basket or something because this vid just saved me a lot of time and money.
dude i want to fuck you so much! thank you omg! i love you soooo much. I did this for windows 7 and it worked for that too thank youuuuuu!!!! if i had a credit card i would seriously doante to you!!!! <3 forever
Hi - I just wanted to say thank you very very much for your help - this video is really excellent! I was faced with the prospect of doing a full restore because the pc just would not boot, so I just followed your instructions and it is now booting happily into Vista again and all within an hour from start to finish...
So this video has saved me so much time and my other half is now happy again that his pc is working as he was completely lost without it :)
omg!!! i don't know if I can ever thank you enough mate. I started having a problem 2 days ago while using Daemons tool, i think i created an active empty virtual drive and forgot to delete it, after restart, the computer wouldn't boot. It would only go to repair mod...Finally after 2 days of researching on youtube.. I found the your video.. you saved my ass =). BIG THANKS TO YOU FOR SERVING THESE UNGRATEFUL HUMANS :) bye n subbd
When I do bootrec /rebuildbcd it then asks me if I want to add installation to boot list, I say yes then it says the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable
I'm glad I finally found your video. I was trying to fix my laptop with Windows 7 with absolutely no luck. I probably wasted 10 or so hours trying to fix this bug and your solution took approximately a minute. So in response to others yes this can work on Win 7. Thanks Britec09!!!

Is there any benefit running bcd.exe in safe mode ?
amacdeeeee 8 months ago
Thanks for all your advice. I burned the DVD and booted up with it. Got all the way to "Repair" option but then the laptop went straight to Vista's Startup repair without giving me an option to choose a recovery tool. Therefore couldnt access the Command Prompt option.
Is there a way around this ?
Thanks

Hi - I just wanted to say thank you very very much for your help - this video is really excellent! I was faced with the prospect of doing a full restore because the pc just would not boot, so I just followed your instructions and it is now booting happily into Vista again and all within an hour from start to finish...
So this video has saved me so much time and my other half is now happy again that his pc is working as he was completely lost without it :)
Thank you!

1.Insert the Microsoft Windows Vista installation DVD disc in the DVD drive, and then start the Laptop.
2.Press a key when you are prompted and Select language, time, keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
3.Select Repair your computer
4.Select the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

Ok when you do the scanning all disks for windows installations and if you get total identified windows installation:0, does that mean that windows is no longer installed on the computer? And when I went to the operating systems menu, I didn't have microsoft windows vista. It was blank. Could you also help me with that?
