Making a campaign to weaken the enemy more than they would us, which had the opposite effect. So we needed more men. As for me, half of my family is southern, half is northern. I have ancestors who fought on both sides of the war. I'm not internally biased, though I'm proud of my heritage. Actually the fact that I don't like BBQ, Jesus, or beer would at least separate me from the stereotypical southerner. What I see is a prime example of history being shifted. The victors write it, losers read it. It makes it seem that the North was good, the South evil. In reality, there is no clear-cut distinction like this.

It is very true that history is writte by the winners, and read by the losers. The civil was wasn't fought specifically over slavery, so much as it was to determine who had the right to determing whether slavery was right or not, among other subjects.
