  • Sounds like you are channeling Scott Joplin ideas for a bit there...I love this! Excellent job! Someday I'll be half that good and love it. :)

  • <3 tone and style, constantly hitting replay!

  • WHY IS'NT THIS GUY FAMOUS????

  • @cgcgce ... that's what I ask myself every day!

  • @cgcgce

cause the best are not famous! :)

  • I love your hot licks.

  • Kirk, did you put any reverb or delay on this, or is that all from the instrument?

  • Great!

  • Love it, that tone is amazing

  • very smooth

  • OK!!!! Thanks for the Quick response!!

    You! the man!!

  • Hey!!??? You do any lap straight tuneD!!!!!

    Real nice...tasty exercise!!

  • @bjkaboom ... thanks, mate. I used to play in open tunings but I just stick to standard these days. I've never tried a lap steel.

  • heh sounds like a slightly overdriven acoustic...love the sound

  • Omg, I love that xD

  • ohh dear...i have to get one of thies resonartors:P

  • Epic

  • This. This is what i want to learn, what I want to do with my life!

BTW, at 1:05 it kinda reminded me of Warren Haynes :)

Nice work man, Keep it up!

  • That was awesome!

  • what kind of slug of humanity could go so far as to press "dislike" on this? My goodness. Great work.

  • is that plugged in?

  • Goddamn. I want one.

  • sweet!

  • grooove nice swing

  • I'm considering purchasing a resonator, but I dont play much blues. How do they sound when playing other genres?

  • wow kick ass!!

  • is this unplugged?

  • Sweet, this is really good... but I don't think I could listen to it all the time, or even that often.

  • See you later space cowboy...

  • I LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS GUITAR!!!

  • blows my mind that there are people on this planet that would push the dislike buttton. fools

  • awesome!!!! sounds great....blues forever!!!

  • Oh, wow. As shocking as it may seem, I've never heard a resonator guitar being played before (eventhough I am sort of a guitarist myself, well, more like bassist). It sounds amazing!

Is there an effect for the electric guitar that makes it sound like this?

  • @dudecicero ... not that I've heard of, but you never know these days.

  • @planetalk - If it does, I should get it soon. It sounds amazing! And nice playing. I wish I was that good.

  • @dudecicero I'm sure there's a way you could make a guitar effect like this.

  • @dudecicero I'd say that the closest you would get using effects would be to use an acoustic simulator pedal, add a light reverb, turn up the treble on your amp and turn down the bass.

  • @dudecicero Jay Turser makes an electric resonator. I bought mine last year. The pickups are dodgy so I had them replaced. Otherwise a nice gtr.

  • What kind of rezonator is this?

  • fuck dude your amazing. Im going to find a resonator now.............. and start learning whatever the fuck bottleneck is....thats all in just drop D? shit man, I couldn't do anything like that in open G.

  • hands down this is some of the best playing i have ever heard!

  • just bourght 1 of these latest resonator acoustics for £300 worth every penny sounds awsome

  • I had to watch this TWICE IN A ROW! Wonderful!

  • wow.. thats pretty damn good

  • cool....

  • beautiful love song bravo friend too

  • That "crude" recording method is VERY effective. That's a fantastic sound your getting, and that resonator sounds excellent too! Mr. Palm does a great job. Now about your playing. Holy Mackrel!! That's the best I've heard, and I've heard a lot too.

  • Goddamn! That's some of the best playing I've heard ever - and I've heard a lot!

  • how would i go about learning something like this ?

  • 7 people nows nothing about music.great guitar and tune.keep rockin!

  • great sound!

  • Hey man, you got it! Great work!

    And that baby sounds wonderful!

Can you give the specifications of that beauty?

(What kind of woods? Solid top? Price...)

    Thanks a lot!

  • @stonehorn59 ... thanks mate. The guitar was the prototype for the line of resonators made by my friend Michael Palm. I'm afraid I don't know much about the woods used or even the price as I wound up with a special deal. It is a beauty, very warm sound and very playable. I keep waiting for his site to get finished but he seems to be in no hurry. I also own one of his acoustics, another wonderful instrument.

  • @stonehorn59 I'm guessing it's a fender fr-50 ce resonator.

All the specs are on the fender web page.

I've been shopping for this model recently.

  • this guitar sounds superior to many ive heard

  • Like if a magic spell turned the most beautiful woman in the world into a piece of music.

  • Oh Yessssss !!!!

Very nice playing, that hit the spot nicely..Thankyou !!

  • I love this!

  • very nice! :)

  • made me cry.

  • I LOVE BLUES!!!!! -absolutely great tune by the way

  • Beeeeeautiful! (An OH yes post video tweaking with Adobe Audition is a great way to enhance...not that your playing needs it!)

    Sweet mate!!!

    Richie.

  • can you use a guitar pick on these things?

  • Great picking!!!

  • very nice

  • amazing

  • great i wish i could play slide

  • Very very good that m8

  • 6 peeps missed the like botton.

  • great tune man. How do you record this? I'm just looking into starting to record my own stuff, do you use a condensor mic, mixer and connect them to the computer?

  • @louthleviathan ... thanks, mate. I use a Rode NT1A condenser mic, which goes into a little Behringer mixer, then into my PC via a M-Audio sound card. I bring it into Adobe Audition and add a bit of EQ and reverb. It's crude, but effective.

  • @planetalk sound thanks!

  • sweet!!!

  • Bloody fantastic. Very rare to find good slide on youtube. most of it's awful. Yours is truely as good as it gets!

  • I love it, I want a resonator so bad for the blues!

  • Seinfeld Music :D

  • that is soooo sick dude. you are absolutley amazing. my name is mac wray and play your same kinda music with a dobro. i love your stuff

  • Great playin man..

  • KIRK! You should be playing at the next Eric Clapton Guitar Festival!

  • that is actually so amazing. now im decided (: will get a resonator guitar myself, to add to my 'collection' xD

  • this is mindfrying playing

  • @newcalls12 ...thanks! The tuning is DADGBE, so just the bass string down a tone to D. Almost standard.

  • Black delta water blues...

    ")

  • So greate! That sounds so chilled. :-) Mississipee river, sun & bottle of whiskey!

  • you ricj

  • "Play it son"

  • Good One Bruss.....

  • Yeaaah!!!

  • Yeah!!!

  • Yeah!

  • I love it

  • It's super awesome!

  • Hi, I am dying to know how you bring the slide down onto the strings without getting a scratchy sound at first?

    Thanks

  • @weadley You mute the strings with your ring finger behind the slide.

its tricky at first but you get use to it.

  • it seemed it lasted for hours but thats probably cause i had some pot. this is awesome dude! love the gentle way you just sing with that slide. much love from the netherlands

  • @Wooter91 you mean nordin wooter?

  • I probably ment the tunes heard after 1:00 when he kind of solos with the slide.

  • Can you send me some pot?

  • lol :p

plan a holiday to the netherlands! but not now its crappy weather haha

  • This is great.

  • SUCH a mellow tone

    Dig it

  • what kind of dobro is this?

  • really really really good man :D

  • Great playing, really clever sounding song. I'm curious about how this was recorded. Just through a mic, or do you have the guitar plugged in somewhere?

  • @jetporter .. thanks, mate. I use a Rode mic to record these.

    Cheers!

  • Wow.. Just a mic, eh? That's one great sounding guitar in that case.(When I try to play stuff like that I get my fingers tangled up and muffle a lot of notes that should be ringing out). Sounds like you have some reverb. If that's just the guitar, I'm impressed!

  • i agree with him i am very impressed nice work man !!

  • man thats a great sound

  • Lovely, as always Kirk

  • if you were to buy a resonator guitar, could you play it like a normal guitar then retune and use the bottleneck when you wanted slides?

or would it just sound weird in standard tuning and stuff?

  • @alexatkinsonpk ... this tune is in fact played in dropped D, which is standard tuning with the bass string down a tone. So, yes, I do play this resonator as a normal guitar and if I'm wearing the slide on my pinkie, I can spice things up. Have a look at some of my other slide videos, they're all played in either standard or dropped D.

  • Excellent playing!! Very Nice!! You make that guitar sing! Guitar sounds lovely. I like the fact that the resonator is not overpowering... nice to hear a "little" reso with woody tones. I am looking to get me a Reso and am checking out vids on utube to get an idea of the different model types.

  • Michael Palms' guitars suck!

No juice, man. 2 dimension sorta sound.

I wouldn't waste my time or money with a Michael Palm guitar...

  • We're all entitled to our opinion. I have two of Michael's guitars and I love them both.

  • Your comment sucks too ;-). Good we are all entitled to our own judgment. I personally really like this sound. There is some warmth with the resonator sound. Anyhow, take it easy and let everybody make up his.her own mind please.

  • Hello, sorry for my intromission. Great guitar, great sound!!!

I'm now selling an original 1929 National tricone style 1 on ebay, if you or someone you know is interested. Ridiculous starting price, no reserve. See: National tricone style 1 nachoga

You can see a clip on youtube. Put "nachoga" or "national tricone nachoga".

    Thank you

  • Is that a single cone resonator??

  • nice nice slow and deep

  • Excuse my ignorance, but what is the metal tube on your finger for? I've seen it on quite a few vids for resenator guitars...

  • @AreYouFromThisPlanet

Its called a slide. It makes a different sound. its just a different technique.

  • Just think for one second and you find out

  • It's Called A Slide, It's Just Used To... Slide.

  • Beautiful playing. Who made that guitar?

  • It was made by a friend called Michael Palm who lives in Australia. He also made an acoustic I use in quite a few of these movies.

  • great playing man, love it

  • Beautiful tone from that guitar!

  • WHAT?!

  • A wesh a can play like U

  • whooooo....right on daddy-o, loved it!

  • Wonderful.

  • i've heard ALOT of great blues... but NOTHING to your standard. i'd selll me sole JUST like rob johnson to be half as good as you. nice

  • awesome, you're tha best man!!!

  • Kirk - that is so good. I would cut my left ear off to play like that. Not really ;-) but almost. You are truly gifted

  • Yeah, that's a killer dude. Very nice and inspiring.

  • I'll say, the resonator guitar itself sounds a lot better (and different) than I had expected. I'm especially impressed with the guitarist here. I don't think I could EVER get my hands to move that quickly and smoothly, while producing such beautiful sound. Keep up the great work!

  • Oh yeh that melts the soul...great playing

  • Is this dropped D (e B G D A D) or open D tuning (D A D F# A D)?

It saids dropped D in the description, but it looks like open D to me...

  • e B G D A D

  • sorry i am new to these different tunings. but why is the e small and the rest of the letters capitalized? does that mean its flat or something? sorry i know its sounds dumb but iduno.

  • because generally both the top and bottom stings are tuned to e and it just tells you that its not the same string when reading music or tabs.

  • ohh. so is it still tuned to e?

  • Very nice :)

  • Very cool--nice sound, and the playing is great! Thank you for posting this!

  • sweet awesome playing dude nice

resanator if you get a chance plzz check out rate and comment on my vid crawling king snake

  • I like it. And the Guitar is beautiful.

  • Really Groovy. I love it.

  • Cool but no offense resonators are the ugliest intruments ever but were resonators made to make the guitar louder before amps arrived?

  • Yes. Also I think they look great!!

  • Well that's opinion. I am personally dying to purchase one =)

  • Resonators Ugly...what planet are you from they are beautiful

  • Kids are such douche bags, especially the current crop.

  • Oi, its called opinion, ur a prick

  • Oi? What are you, an old Borscht-Belt comedian?

To the contrary, it's not just "an opinion." It's the inane opinion of a vapid little shit-stain of a kid, who has no life-experience and a decidedly banal douche-bag-age aesthetic.

  • What age are you? Kids can say what they want, and if your an adult you really are a person that has achieved nothing in life and just argues with children i casn say what i want when i want dickheed

  • That's some mighty fine fallacious reasoning there, stupid.

  • Says you, you stereotyping dickhead.

  • Look, cocksucker, I don't presume to tell you ofays how to do that arms-at-your-sides-river-dancing or how to wear your lederhosen. So, don't presume to tell me anything about the Blues.

  • It doesnt matter where im from, what kind of idiotic reasoning is that im from the UK does that mean i don't know more about the blues than someone from America, no thats idiotic. Also stop trying to seem more intelligent than everyone by showing of your vocabulary its going to waste from the amount of shit you are talking. Im 16 and im already more mature than you. Insecure, if you think the modern day youth are such scum you must fear them to think of them as all the same, predjudice dickhead.

  • Thanks, jimbo, it's nice of you to take the time to write.

  • witch tunnig it is?

  • read

  • thx

  • thats one good lookin' guitar, beautifully played.

  • Make and Model? Anyone?

  • It was made by Michael Palm (Brisbane, Australia) and it was the first resonator he made. I was lucky enough for him to let me have it.

  • Wonderful playing with a nice fluid slide style and a great musicality !

  • Too easy brother.....great job!

  • Bravo...

  • Awesome man!

  • amazing!
