really admire how the writers take a group of kids, show how they mess up (outrageously, tragically, phantasmagorically) in one season, and then show how they developed (and are developing) in the next.

This leads me to believe that odd-numbered seasons will be more outrageous than even-numbered seasons, and even-numbered seasons will be more meaningful than odd-numbered seasons.

So... season 3 will be outrageous!
