  • Great clerk, so honest and saying it how it is, not a good deal at all

  • At Linens-N-Things I bought an electronic pen for $3 before it had it's out of business sale. During the liquidation, the pen was $7 marked down 40% (to $4.20).

  • Shit. I was thinking the deals just weren't going to be good as people hoped. What a big scam.

  • Never really knew this before... Good thing I do now.

  • Frigging hell.

They put anything that was on sale back to its original price and the sale was off that original price. Get a fucking clue, people.

  • I'm kinda glad I ended up not buying anything at Circuit City when it was going out of business. Linens-N-Things where have I been living, never knew it was going out of business O.o.

  • Lamest.

    Ripoff.

    Ever.

I've seen Gottschalks's stuff, and they at least took the time to change the price tags.

Then again, they had some Sharper Image stuff blatantly displayed, so...

  • liquidation sales are rip-offs, that's what people don't see. liquidators are ripping people off

  • @goldendragon35 fucktits. Your shit and and they are not fucktits!

  • WHAT A RIP

    GET THE BASTARDS

  • are liquidation sales actually real?

i saw a commercial...and they say they sell xbox 360's for 50 dollars. and games for 8 dollars.

    plasma tvs for 100.

and other great items for cheap.

    is this true?

  • wow wow bull shit

  • welcome to walmarts world, they have the same idiots that drove this into the ground as the rest of the big-idiots.. i couldve changed this company in 10 minutes, and for only $10000, but the idiot ceo's and cfo's... what a joke, you guys are idiots!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the video.. i always suspected something like this..

  • thank you for revealing the truth.

  • So I guess the lesson here is if a big name store is going out of business just steer clear and let the shit pile sink.

  • @gphjr14 yup, when it sinks, you can buy the left over goods from stores like Big Lots. Much cheaper.

  • @gphjr14 Nah. Wait a few weeks. Then you'll be able to buy Decision Points from Borders for 75% off.

  • @gphjr14 yeah but you'll always have ones that just don't get it - fucking it up for the rest of us,

  • that is a big help! telling us how liquidator works.

but you should talk about patrol cops, the peace court and penndot. they are ripping drivers off everyday!

they did pick the most crowed area with no parking garage to do a weekly street clean. the street was never dirty

  • oh and toy r us out of bussiness too !

  • Toys R Us? They're not out of business

  • lost and damn , if circuit city closed so where people find other job ? c'mon Obama think something that good for out bussiness store !

  • yeha I work at circuit city now and dealing with the liquidation blows ass. Prices are ridiculous and of course customers yell at me, as if I make the prices. The great follow up line to every pissed off customer..."That's why you guys are going out of business"........is it? is it really?

  • LOL I work at CCity too and even though there "sale" prices are a complete crock of shit everything in the store is getting sold so what does that tell us about most shopers? that they don't take the time to shop around or think about the prices. They see a %off sign and assume they are getting a real deal. SO who is the stupid ones? the liquidators or the customers?

  • I worked at Ccity as well. They don't have time to go around and mark things down individually. Because old is cheap and new is expensive. With that said, most stuff was overpriced because they have to go off of a base price. Aka retail. Yes liquidators are trying to get as much money as they can but there has to be a structure to their sale or it would just be business as usual.

  • It's definitely the customers. I just went to a CC here in NYC and the entire store was cleaned out except for a few products.

Now get this... what the CC had left were beat up display model laptops with missing keys. The liquidators had the gall to still sell these for between $450-$800 and yet customers were literally ogling these beat up laptops like they were seriously considering buying one. I guess it's because they were all labeled "Last one in the store!"

    LOL...

  • Hahaha that made me laugh so hard, I freaking cried. I see this all the time whenever there is a liquidation sale. You know it reminds me of the small businesses at vacation spots who say their going out of business. You know what, they been going out of business for years! Hahaha fools! Open your eyes!

  • This story was exactly right, when I went in December 2008 to Mervyns "Going out of Business sale. THe prices for t-shirts were like 40 dollars when they used to be $10.00 dollars, pants were like $80.00 when they used to be $20.00.

  • You wonder why people fall for this ? Just look at the people who buy a home without a lawyer. You can't fix stupid.

  • I worked for a company that got liquidated: Emporium, a department store in Oregon. Those percentages off got bigger and bigger with time, so the deals got great only at the very end of the liquidation, but by that time all the good selection was gone. I was even duped by my boss who called me at home to tell me that we were going down to 20%. She said it as though it was the final drop so that employees would buy up stuff. Yup. caveat emptor

  • liquidators are dicks

  • Just have to be patient... I know people worry that the store closing is going to run out of product but they restock if stuff is selling which usually means that they have a surplus like a week before the store actually closes! You just have to know when to go... I have gotten great deals at liquidations by timing it right.

  • thats why wal-mart will always kick ass !beleve it or not

  • This is true and extremely frustrating. I work in a circuit city and People come in complaining all the time about the prices, and honestly there is nothing I can do but stand aside and watch as I lose my job...Impulse thanks for your comment...if people would wait about a month the prices will drop.

  • I'm sorry to hear that you are losing your job. I wish you the best of luck in finding a new job.

  • It is true a lot of VULTURES go out shopping into Circuit City stores right now some that have not even walked into the retail store before when it had better deals...mind you the company like mervyns ciruit city or ana and linens dont jack up hte prices the Liquidatiors do so dont go in the store giving managers a hard time.

  • A 'sucker is born every minute'. Count on it and profit by it. Survival is at stake. 'Survival of the fittest' (smartest). The oldest law of the world. DaFlikkers

  • Quit complaining. If all of you who say you don't have money would go into these stores and buy before liquidators take over, these stores wouldn't have gone out of business in the first place and you could have gotten the great deals. So shut your face! Stupid abc doesn't know what they are talking about. I've been in a company that was liquidated and abc is not giving you the full story.

  • That's the fucking reaso a 4 pack of batteries is $13, and a Snickers bar is $2.79 at the Circuit City.

  • Unless things aren't ridiculously cheap at CC, I'm still not going to buy their stuff so the liquidators better wake up and realize that a lot of people won't either.

  • A 1080p HD TV was $1299.99 before Circuit City went under, and now it is $4999.99 for the same TV.

  • Now this is just great.... How many times have we all been to these sales and got taken. What a bunch of crap

  • Only in America would companies get away with this crap.

  • Agreed.. be careful how you spend your money. Its all about timing: if the liquidator doesn't show up right away, then chances are the initial markdown could work to your advantage.

Take that Samsung TV shown in the video. A nearby Circuit City had a very good deal on that beauty - still in the box. After 10% it was selling for $1349 on Saturday due to the original price at that time. Today, it proudly displayed a not-so-deal breaking "WAS $2000 NOW $1800" sticker.

    Gotta love it..!

  • Damn, that's a low blow. Please be careful how you spend your money, folks!

  • the deals where a joke at CC...there were a few good video games that were cheap though. I didn't stick around long because I wasn't going to stay in a the long line that was developing. 10% off isn't worth the couple of dollars you might have saved.

  • Remember that old saying, "if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is?"

  • Bear in mind that once the store is closed, those employees are out of a job. So they don't really care about the liquidators.

  • The clerks responses are classic. It's funny to ask the obvious and to obvious.

  • good to know

  • oh shit cheap stuff at CC

*reads all about liquidation and their ASS prices*

    oh, well that sucks :<

  • The liquidators will steadily lower prices as time goes by. You really need to wait until the last week or two before the doors close. I was able to get a couple of Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound cards for $60.00 at CompUsa before they closed (currently $133.00 at Amazon), but that was 2 days before they closed permanently.

  • there are approx 34k ppl who will all be out of a job during such a difficult economic time. I work at one of the stores that was featured in this video and have been a direct witness to the unfolding of this tradegy..getting back to the point, the info in this clip should be nothing new. If the price is raised then that gives even more margin to play with and discount. Whether it's 5% or 50% ppl will purchase solely bc of the hype. personally, i'd rather pay extra for a return policy.

  • gotta tell u guys, its quite comical seeing ppl come out in the exteme cold just to get 10% off a $15 dvd. seriously, i wouldnt be suprised if half of them passed a best buy or walmart on their way, the gas money alone would take away any savings on a low dollar product. unlike the complete ignorance of the average consumer one thing that does suprise me is the lack of respect and absolute selfishness of ppl in a situation such as this.

  • haha its great to run into employees with an honest conscience

  • they're all pissed that they're being fired. i'd be too, i'd be all "yo fool don't shop here!"

  • man i was planning on driving down from Vancouver to check out CC but i guess im not anymore lol

  • Im glad they are out of business. Their customer service was horrible. When you would come into the store they would look at you like you just barged into their house (without knocking).

  • I agree with you They where more interested in selling me a "Discontinued computer" from HP so when I needed help they refused. Even the chick who sold it to me kept walking away, refusing to talk to me.

  • i went to CC today (1/17/09).. more people were walking out of the store empty handed. Not a good site for a 'going out of business sale'. once i was inside i saw why no one was buying anything. the prices were only 5 to 10% off on most items. Most items were out of stock. Distributors stopped delivering to CC once they knew CC had filed bankrupt & would not be liable for paying for any delivery.

  • ..damn liquidators. guess i'm not heading to CC tomorrow then..

  • wtf

  • busted huh

  • Thanks for posting this ABC news report. Didn't think they played this kind of game. Bastards.

  • hrm...this was educational :p, thanks uploader

  • You people looking to strip CCity down to the bare bones, read this.

  • @ a Phoenix CC i went to grab a keyboard. I tried bestbuy first and decided to give the "going out of business" CC a shot first. CC had a keyboard marked at 59.99 supposedly marked down from 69.99. The same keyboard was 59.99 @ bestbuy.

  • lol i just got back from CC just to check it out and I told myself "Self, these prices are a bunch of shit". haha

  • LMAO.. Self.. this guy is funny..

  • dude, are you FHS alumni?

  • Sleaze balls. just pure sleaze balls.

  • Yup. Very good, and true, vid.

If you think you're going to get a great deal from Circuit City during their liquidation, think again. There might be some true deals at the very end, but they won't be on anything you'd really WANT, 'cuz the suckers will have already bought up anything good... and not for a very good price either.

    Buyer beware.

  • Thanks for sharing this very informative news clip with us. Very important info to know for those going to the Circuit City out of business sales.

  • Son of a bitch. I bought some sheets at a Linens and Things last month because I thought it was a good deal.

  • BASTARDS !!!

(Just Kidding, I knew this was the case all along, but this is a nicely encapsulated report to share with friends who are naive)

  • Caveat Emptor

  • Way to screw consumers even more. Gotta know how to be a smart shopper like me:)

  • It is rare to find a "deal" at these liquidation sales. At some point of the liquidation, I often go into a closing store to see what's available, hoping to find a worthwhile deal. Usually, the "sales" have overpriced decent items or absolute crap that is expensive at any price.

Uneducated consumers gobbling up non deals eliminate most chances of a deal for everyone else.

  • very interesting

  • Wow! I'm so glad I saw this. That's real shady.

  • This is how many businesses do every day sales anyway. Lame!! People who actually know a good deal won't fall for it but I am always shocked by how many people gobble it up. Macy's does this all the time.
