@sparkxstreak02 yeah corky and katina lived past 30, however, there are 150 other whales that died before them, that did not live that long, so 150/3 does not equal an average of 30. please do your math next time! btw 2 former seaworld trainers put out a document stating that the average expectancy of the captive orcas were around 8.
@sparxstreak02 I don't know. Maybe it's the average age. They're probably averaging out the ages, cause there are alot of still borns, new borns who die at birth or they're rejected by their moms & then die.
Sea World Orlando- June 2010, 20 yr old Taima died givin' birth to a still born.
Sea World San Diego- Sept 2010, 12 yr old Sumar died.
Sea World Orlando- Oct. 2010, 25 yr old Kalina died.
There are alot of orcas, in the wild, that are recorded to be well over 70 years in age.
@tone430 not trying to be rude but orcas in captivity is a relatively new thing. Its onlybeen around for 40 years and every year(except2010) the death toll is smaller and orcas live longer. When orcas were first put in captivity they were lucky to make it to 10 years. Nowadays an orca is almost garanteed to live to 20 years. Also, in the wild it is very hard for a baby to make it past the first few years of thier life.

Remeber the average life span for a wild orcas is 50 years and the longevity for females 90 and males 60.

0:17 that wasnt true, most orcas in captivity live much longer than their teen years -corky & katina have both lived past 30!
