Honestly I don't doubt there are some sub-par hotels including that one in VB. I gotta say though I've seen a couple hotels that make the Tropicana look like the Ritz. One little dive hotel in Waikiki was enough to make you gag just on the smell alone.
What a bullshit video. Those reporters failed to interview a "real" life person, owners or management. How come the video wasn't running while they were pointing the camera outside? How did they know what room was nasty. So I'm thinking its just a random hotel. If there were hotels that nasty and dirty there, the local health department would shut them down. I've been there lots and lots of times and we never got a nasty room. I've been in some nasty hotel/motel rooms but never at Virginia Beach
I once lived there, fell in love with a girl there, lost her and moved back to my farm. Never been back but so help me it is still home away from home. Beautiful and wonderful place to be and live.

I live in the Beach, and it's wonderful. The area is so diverse. The great thing about South Hampton Roads is that the area is really geared towards outdoor activities. SO much free stuff to do and its all outside, even the stuff you pay for is outside. Not that I'm a health freak, but it's nice to enjoy the sunshine. Botanical Gardens, the Aquariam, Zoo, North Landing Park, the waterfront, and the REAL beach, OV!!!!
I stayed at the marriott courtyard in va beach. its right off the ocean soo nice! you can hear the waves crashing on the ocean at night. Nice glass doorson the balcony. It was very clean. I recommend it to anyone.

I live in Virginia Beach and saw this on the local news. The Tropicana is old and one of the holdovers from the old days. Most of the hotels are first rate but some especially those of the strip are really nasty. During the winter some of them do put lowlifes and homeless in them. Stick with the majors when you come here, just like everywhere else.
I just came back from VB and stayed at the Sandcastle. I went last year and stayed at the Hampton 11th Street location. I can confirm that there are other hotels that are up to par Oceanfront. Do not let a 2007 review of the Tropicana stop you from visiting. Hopefully, they've gotten their act together but if not, there are tons of other hotels to stay at. Utilize Trip Advisor.com

I used to work for a pest control company on the VA Beach Ocean Front. Nearly every hotel I visited had bed bugs. During the off-season, a lot of transient drug heads live in the rooms for a low fee.
i never stayed at the tropicana before but looking at this video im not so sure i want to when i go back for another visit.I'll stick with schooners on the beach,least they are nice and clean and the people that work their are really nice

the city is terrifying to some tourists. the parking is rediculous, but i found a way around it. this also cuts from the traffic along Atlantic AVE. best time to go is early morning or late evening around 7. if fast food is what your getting for lunch, take drivethrough! and cops! they will get you for EVERY LITTLE THING! accidentally let a word slip out, they are on you. but the bitch, i mean beach itself is dirty! ciggarettes everywhere, trash. theres only one good thing, night life seems good

Va Beach hosts the 2 most filthy shit holes in the USA, with the Oceanfront Inn pulling a tight and easy 2nd to the Tropicana. Don't be fooled by reviews, I took my family there, and we met the laziest damn staff you ever saw. They sat in the lobby using things meant for guests instead of cleaning and fixing things.

If you're going to Virginia Beach and you're going there mainly for the beach you're better off not to get a hotel on the beach. It's safer to get a room at The Sleep in or something like that in Norfolk or Chesapeake it's a 20 minute drive to the beach and a lot better for your health.:)
Add the Knights Inn in Kentwood, MI to the list. I found blood on my linens. They wouldn't give me a refund. Luckily, after filing a complaint with Chase, I got a refund.
The motels/hotels in VA Beach are pretty ragged and gross. Even Pat Robertson wouldn't support such disgusting businesses. Keep in mind, VA Beach has a place called Mount Trashmore along I-264. Hmmm...not too impressive.

Virginia Beach for the most at the ocean front is really nice, the indian hotels are disgusting. My family is in the hotel business and I can tell you we have some really nice hotels down here, for example the Hilton or others.
didnt read all the posts, so this has probably already been stated: the guy who owns it doesnt care. it can be the dirtiest hotel ever, but it will still be booked solid during the summer. you arent paying for a nice hotel there, so dont expect one
@spongeratheart exactly, the guy who owns the hotel, doesn't care. I recently purchased a hotel from some Chinese folks who ran it into the ground. Dirty stained mattresses, they never changed the sheets etc. Now that I have it, we keep it clean but you have to weed out the former clientele, because despite seeing the difference, they try to use it to party. Simple solution, ban local guests because there is no reason for someone with a home to come in and make it bad for others.
I lived in Virginia Beach from 1973-1982. I wanted to come back to visit to see how things have changed but I definitely want to avoid dirty hotels especially since I have kids.

I grew up 10mins from myrtle beach, sc. Do not stay at the hampton hotell on brodway at the beach. I stepped in stale urine in the bathroom, and then there was a big red stain on the back of a pillow case!
Tropicana is filthy. I grew up here in Va Beach and many of the hotels here are very nasty. Circa Del Mar, InTowne suite (believe it or not, Red Roof Inn. There are many more.
Catch 31 has the Hilton which is nice. There are a lot of nice hotels here as well. But if you are looking for something cheap you get what you pay for.
Tropicana is good for parties.
I have been to Myrtle Beach, SC. The Yachtsman was very nice.
Try staying at the Turtle Cay. That place is top notch. Has really nice rooms with 20 ft tall rooms. Also, the Penthouses are perfect for bachelor parties.
That hotel that they are showing is run by a bunch of illegal mexicans.
You can get hookworm from sleeping on the beach. Just bring your own sheets, blankets and disinfectant to your motel room regardless of which one you stay at.

Va Beach hosts the 2 most filthy shit holes in the USA, with the Oceanfront Inn pulling a tight and easy 2nd to the Tropicana. Don't be fooled by reviews, I took my family there, and we met the laziest damn staff you ever saw. They sat in the lobby using things meant for guests instead of cleaning and fixing things.

yeah i live in virginia just not on the beach i am two hours away and now i know when i go this summer don't stay there i went to a hotel in myrtle beach it had food in the sink from the last guest but if you turned on the water it washed down but the hotel was great but that far from great

the Tropicana is nasty. I stayed there October of 08. I got my money back. there were nasty fruit flies everywhere. No clean the trash can out. Do not stay there.

The tropicana is nasty because we would throw parties in it everyweekend!! i still have hotel keys from the rooms. we would smash holes in the walls kick in doors to the next rooms, throw shit in the pool, have sex everywhere. Man good memories!!!!!!

The Holiday Inn right after I-286 is not bad at all and it's located right on the water and you can go right to the beach.

If you're going to Virginia Beach and you're going there mainly for the beach you're better off not to get a hotel on the beach. It's safer to get a room at The Sleep in or something like that in Norfolk or Chesapeake it's a 20 minute drive to the beach and a lot better for your health.:)

Add the Knights Inn in Kentwood, MI to the list. I found blood on my linens. They wouldn't give me a refund. Luckily, after filing a complaint with Chase, I got a refund.
The motels/hotels in VA Beach are pretty ragged and gross. Even Pat Robertson wouldn't support such disgusting businesses. Keep in mind, VA Beach has a place called Mount Trashmore along I-264. Hmmm...not too impressive.

@tomgreentwin its called mt trashmore because it was a garbage dump that was converted into a hill and a park. you would never know if it wasn't for the name. as for the hotels, yeah a lot of them are old and with that comes problems. most of the bad ones have closed down and there's a ton of really nice properties on the oceanfront now. yeah vb has disadvantages but its still my home. i don't know where your from (frankly i don't care) but even if i hated it i wouldn't straight up trash it

Virginia Beach for the most at the ocean front is really nice, the indian hotels are disgusting. My family is in the hotel business and I can tell you we have some really nice hotels down here, for example the Hilton or others.

@spongeratheart exactly, the guy who owns the hotel, doesn't care. I recently purchased a hotel from some Chinese folks who ran it into the ground. Dirty stained mattresses, they never changed the sheets etc. Now that I have it, we keep it clean but you have to weed out the former clientele, because despite seeing the difference, they try to use it to party. Simple solution, ban local guests because there is no reason for someone with a home to come in and make it bad for others.

I grew up 10mins from myrtle beach, sc. Do not stay at the hampton hotell on brodway at the beach. I stepped in stale urine in the bathroom, and then there was a big red stain on the back of a pillow case!

Tropicana is filthy. I grew up here in Va Beach and many of the hotels here are very nasty. Circa Del Mar, InTowne suite (believe it or not, Red Roof Inn. There are many more.
Catch 31 has the Hilton which is nice. There are a lot of nice hotels here as well. But if you are looking for something cheap you get what you pay for.
Tropicana is good for parties.
I have been to Myrtle Beach, SC. The Yachtsman was very nice.

Try staying at the Turtle Cay. That place is top notch. Has really nice rooms with 20 ft tall rooms. Also, the Penthouses are perfect for bachelor parties.
That hotel that they are showing is run by a bunch of illegal mexicans.
