yeah the lack of a mokogin like character daunted me a bit... they probrally made the desision based on the fact that the games online now. Dont ask me why that would lead them to that desision but thats the one major difference between SC4 and all the other SCs.

i still think it's cheap to "magically" make your enemies go up in the air, any where on text based rpgs, something like that is a total god mode.....different thing but still.....cheap that they put in star wars.....it just doesnt fit in the whole soul calibur theme, many of my friends who like both of the series agree with me.....

i think the game modes are ok.

the game play is deep but not to hard to master (button combinations to pull off moves)

and it feel really well too so i don't think that more modes would make any difference that the game is AWSOME!!!!!

i specially like the feature where you can make your own fighter, thats just sweet

yeah i'm also kind of disappointed that there arent that many game modes but i think the core gameplay, the bread and butter combat of the series, is the best its ever been.

The Tower mode is actually the "new" survival mode,I love this game,Un-lockables up the wazoo(just my opinion ;) )

I reviewed the game as I was able to play it, and the online was very lagged. It's gotten better (after we got a patch, which I predicted) but there are still some fights where the inputs are a good two seconds late.

The problem has been remedied to an extent, but it hasn't been fixed.

Up until the patch everyone I played against online complained about the latency.

It's not a big issue anymore, but it does rear its ugly head every so often.

The only reviews you can trust these days are the ones made by normal people, every single "professional" review I've seen lately seem like they were paid beforehand to make the game sound good. Halo 3, GTA IV, and Super Smash bros. all got high averages. Not to say they are bad, but they aren't perfect either.

Like I said I'd recommend a rental first. Really the issue of buy/don't buy comes down to what the tourneyfags decide to use as the platform. Buy whichever they like most and practicepracticepracticepracti­ce.

SC games are not really all that great in terms of upgradeing and re-creating everything.

After SC2 it just seems like they got lazy and went down the "if it's not broken don't fix it" path.

SC4 will be great tho but nothing new or ground-breaking I bet.

I'm really dissapointed to hear that the alternative fighting styles for the created characters have been removed. I was relying on those for some of the characters I wanted to make. They better be downloadable, or maybe they're unlockable. Perhaps you haven't been playing it enough to find out?

well i never really had the chance to play SC3 because i bootlegged it and i got tired of using the swap magic disc over and over so i only played it like twice, so this game will pretty much be a jump from 2 to 4 for me and i was in love with two. Also i wasn't a fan of survival so i'll manage there, and seeing i didn't play SC3 long enough i didn't make a person so somethings will be a little new to me, so im just a little let down by the rip off guest Characters.

Well, I'm still getting this game, I have all of the Soul games, and this one will probably not disappoint, I want to perform at least ONE Critical finish on a computer (Out of Practice mode),I'm a fan of the series, I don't play a lot of online, and I'm still playing story mode in SC12&3, and I'm calling Gamestop tomorrow to see when I can pick it up, so this will be a buy, and it all comes down to the gameplay, and if it's improved over SC3, it's golden to me, otherwise, thanks for the review!

Not a bad review.. but its all from the perspective of the casual player. Hardcore and veteran players could care less about the missing modes. It all comes down to if the game is balanced for normal versus play, to us, that's what SC is all about. :)

There's nothing wrong with being a casual or a hardcore. But to appreciate SC for what it really is (a fighter), you should be more concerned with gameplay balance rather than the fluff on the side (CaS styles, SW characters, etc.). Just my 2 cents, man.
