NES port of Metal Gear is god awful, the MSX original is 1000x better, no joke...the sequel to this nes version, snakes revenge, wasn't even an official metal gear game :S That's how bad the NES versions were!
@cloudofbees Cool I knew snakes revenge was a different version but I thought the first game was an msx to nes port... they certainly have way more in common at least!
@yeismeload TOTALLY! and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on MSX is freakin' great... It's got pretty much every feature of the Solid series, but with 8-bit graphics and sound. Funny to me, though, that Zeta's question is "how am I gonna kill these guys" rather than "how am I gonna sneak past them unseen". Though, the dogs are impossible.(Hideo Kojima said he doesn't even know how to sneak past the 3 dogs at the beginning!)

Thank you for clarifying that this game sucked! lol. Believe it or not Zeta I actually played this game all the way through glancing back at the FAQ's constantly and instead of using save states I had a convenient Rewind button. Trust me man you dont want to come back to play this game! It's hell.

About the lack of equipment, at least in the sequel it is explained that Foxhound operatives don't bring weapons along so that they cannot be traced back to the U.S. for maximum deniability. Of course that doesn't really work for Metal Gear Solid since everyone and their mother know who Solid Snake is on that godforsaken island.

the crawling part. you cant go prone or crouch in Metal Gear. Shifting positions first came in MGS
