  • ..at 2:15 Webber looks like Mr Bean

  • I love this song so much, haven't stopped singing it since I saw Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday bash from Royal Albert Hall...Doe anyone know where I can buy this, I have tried for many years. I Think Lottie Mayer has a beautiful voice, this performance was magnificent and bone chilling for me.

  • Why oh why did she give up singing and lower herself to the point of utter embarrassment and become a presenter on Create and Craft and Ideal World? What a real pity. Gorgeous voice and gorgeous looking! Come back to singing Lottie!

  • I saw this special when it origionally aired and only ONE word comes to mind when I see and hear this brilliant performance by Lottie Mayor & Maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber and that word is.........Perfection.

  • singing this for my singing exam tomorrow :L

  • Pure perfection!

  • This clip from the Anniversary show brought me so much joy as a child. I am thrilled and happy to see that others enjoy it as well.

  • Perfection is wonderful to see and hear.

  • It's a beautiful thing, ain't it?

  • she's beautiful and sings beautifully!

  • Someone may have answered this already, but was this song done twice at the 50th birthday party? In the playlist here,Tina Arena sings this, but when I saw this on TV I remember this being sung by Lottie Mayor (whose rendition I enjoy much better).

  • @pursehappygal Yes, this song was sung twice in two different styles. It was sung at the begining of the show by Tina Arena as a poweful ballad, and as seen here by Lottie. Lottie sang it here as she sang it in the West End show, as Sir Lloyd Webber had intended. I agree with you, that Lottie's version was much nicer than Tina's.

  • I just have one simple word to describe Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and that word is Gneous!

Bravo to the Maestro for all of his brilliant work over the many years and bravo to all involved in bringing to life his work!

Thank you for posting this beautiful peice of work By Sir Andrew and this equally beautiful performance by Ms Lottie Mayor!

    Bravo!!!

  • She is wonderful, comparable to Petula Clark. I truly hope that she records or performs soon.

  • what ever happened to the musical that this song is from ?

was it ever completed, where is it playing ??????????????

  • she sounds good BUT Tina sounds better.......

  • Personally, I change the word "howl" to "sing" to the stars, cause who in the world howls...that for animals....

  • @pmcmusik I think the idea is that "howl" is more passionate that in your case "sing" which is the point of the song. expressing and living the sentiment of the moment.

but you just bottle that up.

  • The best version of this song.

  • Lottie now appears as a presenter on Ideal World and Create and Craft shopping channels.

  • So much better than silly sarah brightman :)

  • agreed here.....I mean, weak and plain does not equal tender/gentle....

  • PS you can get better volume on the load provided by "catherinesjtu" titled "27-lottie mayor-whistle down the wind". this version of the song makes me feel like saying, "God bless..."

PPS (thanks however, tuttt2, for your copy :)

  • Tina was shouting at this concert. Lottie's tender lullaby approach is aptly soothing. Predictable perhaps, but quite beautiful. However, the volume on this load seems to be rather too low even at max - a technical fault?

  • This song is absolutely wonderful. I have the CD of the whole concert and it is simply superb. Wonderfully sung by Lottie. Tina Arena was allright but I prefer this version.

    Thanks for listening.

  • Agreed. Tina is ok, but this song was meant to be sung tenderly, not belted out with gusto. Enthusiasm is a good thing, but one must remember to balance it with the spirit of the song and the feelings it is meant to convey. Lottie did a much better job of it.

  • I must agree with you. Tender but strong...just but right for this lyric.

  • i song this song in choir

  • Absolutly love this version of this song, It's my all time favorite. Does anyone know where I can by this song? I have tried several different music stores, no luck

  • Wonderful! Absolutely love her!I Sung this to my now 11yr old son every night until he was in grade school. Such tender memories of time gone by. When he hears is now, he wonders why he knows it so well. <3

  • Love it! Awesome!

  • I love Lottie's version. She makes it so sweet and clear.

  • A big fan of her version of this and she was great on quizmania as well!

  • Lottie Mayor is an incredibly talented ad beautiful woman. What a voice - and wonderfully elegant.

  • Stunningly elegant, crystal clear, beautiful rendition of one of my favorite broadway numbers.

  • I love her version!

  • I personally like this version that mayor sings rather than tina's version. Lottie has a clear and distinct voice.

  • Yeah I know. Tina's is too pop- not the style that works for such a sweet song. Also, Tina Arena looks like Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond.

  • she is unspeakably delicious to see and listen to at the same time.

  • wow this is amazing

  • how can I upload this to my IMEEM page??

  • Just copy and paste the embed code (top right, under About This Video)

  • This is how the song should be sung. It's from a musical. Plus, her voice is much more clear and her vibrato is more stable.

  • Does anyone know where i can find the script for whistle down the wind...l'm looking for a bit that says ' csn you keep a secret, a really big secret, you've got to....'

  • Tuttt2 Thanks for uploading the video. Is Lottie still singing at the West End or Broadway? Is she retired? She has really a nice crystal clear voice.

  • Unfortunately, Lottie is not performing at the moment, but I prefer to think she is "resting" rather than retired. There is hope that she may been seen in the West End again. She is currently doing some TV work here in the UK.

  • I love this song, but what show does it come from?

  • Hi Tibby. The song comes from the musical Whistle Down the Wind, by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman. It is one of my favourite ever musicals.

  • Thanks a bundle love!!!

  • Is this from Lloyd Webbers 50th birthday?

  • Yes. It was the final song.

  • I cannot get this video to play - so frustrating! It keeps cutting off after a few seconds :(

I have seen it before though and I think it is possibly the most beautiful song ALW has ever written. Does anybody know who wrote the lyrics?

  • I'm sorry you are having trouble with the video, poppet! It is playing fine for me.

The lyrics for this song and the rest of the Whistle down the Wind musical were written by Jim Steinman, who wrote a lot of the Meatloaf tracks including Bat out of Hell.

  • Thanks. I never saw the show as I had moved to the US before it was produced. The original movie was one of my favourites as a child though.

  • Hell yeah! I remembered this from PBS too...Lottie's voice is inspiring, this entire special was cool. I love Bonnie tylor as well...check it out.

  • hypnotizing voice. how enchanting! @_@

  • This is one of those performances that makes you stop what you are doing and listen. Lottie makes you listen to every word. I think she is wonderful. Are there any more recordings of her singing? I would love to hear more.

  • I think I have just heard an angel sing! What a stunningly beautiful voice this young lady has. Lottie, you are indeed a star.

  • I just love Lotties voice. It gives me goose bumps. Anyone who can sing like that should be on the West End stage. Why isnt she using that amazing voice anymore?

  • what a beautiful voice!

  • I remember seeing this special years back on PBS. This was a stand out preformance. What a stunning clear beautiful voice. - a fan in Ottawa

  • Thank you for uploading this. I haven't seen this in almost 10 years when it was aired on PBS and Lottie's performance is the one thing I remember from this special and has stuck with me ever since. I dloaded the audio years ago but seeing the video again is great.

  • Whistle Down the Wind is such an unsung gem...

  • Lottie should do The Sound of Music as Maria!

  • Lottie is great, a really down to earth fun person on telly. She looks fabulous in this and sings like an angel.

  • Yeeeeah! stage fright my ass! Speeed Round!

  • Wow she was amazing!

  • I havnt seen this before im going to buy the dvd. i knew Lottie was a great singer cos i have her cd of the London cast whistle down the wind. She sings well amasing on that

    Jason Mayor age 11

  • Hello

Do you know her (Lottie Mayor)? You have the same name

    Haim Noy

  • Lottie has a fabulous voice i never knew she was this good. Loving your work lottie - Michael in Newcastle

  • I had no idea Lottie had such a great voice! I knew she could sing from the tiem on QM, but i had no idea she was this good! Nice one lottie!

    Sally in West Yorkshire xxx

  • Lottie is a true talented singer as well as a great tv host, never saw her singing before, when was this recorded.

  • It was recorded in April 1998 at the Royal Albert Hall. It was part of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday concert. Lottie has such a beautiful voice, I never tire of listening to her.

  • Thanks your a star, you would never think it our Lottie off Quizmania. JAMES IRELAND

  • Yes I also loved this version. I don't understand what the fuss was about the Tina Arena version.

  • Lottie is a gawjuss singer this song suits her voice loads and i really love this song

  • Tina Area also covered this song to great praise during the same concert. Frankly I think this version is far superior. Lottis voice is CRYSTAL clear. Very nice

  • I agree. This is how the song is meant to be sung. It was never meant to be a blaster. Lottie's voice is perfect for it.
