I don't think social sites are to blame here. She could've met a nutcase on the street or in a pub/bar.
Did she receive any monetary compensation from the perpetrators? I mean loss of income (no modeling for here anymore), pain etc. She will also have problems later in life due to the acid that got inside her. Probably major surgery will be required on the esophagus and maybe the stomach.
