I found two on my trip to Sanibel. One note if you do find this species of octopus, they are well known in their ability to give a painful bite from their beak.
im currently in sanibel watching this haha. In the past two days i have found 4 shells about 8-12 inches long. HUGE! but i've never been lucky enough to find an octopus in any of them! nice video
wow! First I never was so lucky as to find a shell that big on Sanibel. And secondly if that had come out of the shell!!!!!!Well......I would have jumped out of my skin! Nice that you got that memory digitized!
The shell was actually no longer than my hand, it looks bigger in the video. The head of the octopus was a little smaller than a golf ball. It was absolutely one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced!!!
The biggest shell that I found was half the size of my thumb. But I did enjoy searching for shells along the sand. Keep in mind I'm from North Dakota so all of this was very new to me. I did find a jellyfish. I had only seen those on Animal Planet. I did snorkel up to some crabs. I would have loved to have seen that octopus!
That was my first time there. I am from Iowa. We had to get up pretty early to get the good shells. Had several larger than our hands, found one that was huge, bigger than my size 9 feet but it was live so we had to leave it.
