  • Equality is just an illusion. Its utopistic. Its a matter of fact that in any part of life there is a difference between people. It doesnt matter, if it is between men & women, old & young, black & white. With any difference there comes differen basic needs, views, requirements, etc.

The difference obviously gets more dominant when there are also big biological differences. And even if feminism is telling you that there aren't - there are. Watch sports for example:

  • @PresidentScrooge Of course males have a stronger body than females when it comes to physical effort. So why is it that people question other obvious differences?

So todays society got a permanent pressure to perfom. It's men shaped, because thats one of the needs men have in their instincts. On the other hand women often have more emotional needs. She even says it herself at the end "Its important for instutions to value their women - let their women know that they are valued."

  • @PresidentScrooge Thats simply emotional needs. Mens get theirs statisfied, when they archieve something.

So there is no final solution for this, since those are basic biological differences and needs. The only two possibilites seem to be out of reach. A step forward in evolution to make genders the same will most likely not happen, since there is a reason why genders are the same and if it wouldnt matter we would be hermaphrodites.

  • @PresidentScrooge The other possiblity would be the be open-minded and give everyone the chance to proof themselves and not make prejudice. But past showed that this simply doesn't work. There is literature of the past showing this. For example the german novel "Kleider machen Leute" which basicially mean "you are what you wear". Its from 1874 and those things havent changed in those past 138 years.

  • this is what happens when woman get in involved with science they end up looking like this thing.

  • @bumcheeseftw Not true.

  • she looks like tommy wisseu

  • just curious is she sick?

  • i feel like a lot of videos of women on youtube get an unfair amount of hate. most videos on bigthink get way more likes than dislikes, but videos featuring women are usually 2-1

  • a true scientist doesnt care about gender roles,a true scientist only cares about looking for answers.

  • it's hard to listen to her cuz she look's like she had a big pot smoked

  • I think women can cook and clean better then men.

  • @webdesign212 Bullshit.

  • didn't like this clip so much. she spent the first 3 minutes saying "[women have it tougher than men and not because of the family dynamics, but because of something else]" and then she didn't give any reasons. Then she says "[girls you are gonna have to be more manly and just push through].

  • I used to be ad deh top of me field, but den me walk back down teh the butumm

  • Male intelligence is grouped more on the ends of the weschler scale whereas female intelligence is more grouped in the middle. The majority of people that are two or more standard deviations from the average are men whereas the majority (60%) of IQs within the average are female.

  • Male and female brains are different and to continue pretending women can do everything men can do (only better!) is foolish and tiresome. I have yet to meet a woman more intelligent than the men I've known. Let's keep it simple: shut up about your gender and work your ass off. Like men do. You'll be judged on your merits.

  • She's wrong saying women should be supported and rewarded blah blah. Intelligence, diligence, ambition and results should be rewarded. Women are not oppressed. There are fewer female scientists because they don't want to be scientists. Few females have the ability to be great scientists and I dare say that NONE could ever be truly exceptional like men.

  • The only way women get anywhere is by sucking lots of cocks or having the government FORCE institutions to be fair to woman, even when they are useless.

  • Getting to the top of your field isn't normal, but on meth it is!

  • Why is it that when womeen don't have a significant number in a field its sexism, but when it happens to men it just goes unnoticed? very few women go into hard sciences so their will be very few tenured teachers. There is a dirth of men teaching in the k-12 levels and that needs to chance but no men a crying sexism its jut something we as men need handle. she also should be dismissing life's complexities without and backing because i bet that counts for a lot.

  • Nah, she doesn't look high. It looks like Hay Fever. I bet she is so strong willed that she went to work today even though she wasn't feeling well.

  • She said "endowed".

  • since when is there a progressive attrition of females to higher ranks? i thought it was only increasing...

  • Men face discrimination problems, thus not even given the opportunity get hired for work in astounding numbers of pretaining fields. Quite your feminist false victimization syndrome games. People be carefull to fall in support of cunning and devious acts of elder feminists like this women.

  • Why does she look ill?

  • @Genma1989 Because she smashed the shit out of the glass ceiling with her face!

  • so in conclusion how many advises? kinda abstract monologue

  • I hate feminists

  • Is her Science experience in herbs?? because she looks like she BLAZED AS A MUUUFUCKA hahaha damn..

  • she's high... or maybie she's a zombie

  • Why isnt she in the kitchen?

  • Honestly, though, being the head of your department shouldn't be an issue for you if you're a true scientist. True scientists don't care about that poppycock societal bull shit. All they care about is interrogating nature until it tells them what they want to know.

  • Her ideas are just as sexist as the ideas she's fighting.

  • BRRRAAAAAAIIIIINNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSS...

  • Why does everyone has this view of event slightly feminist people? I don't believe this women overstated herself or seemed too arrogant, i think it's without a fucking doubt a man's world still, too many people are obviously threatened to take such a change to the moral zeitgeist, not saying all of course, but fuck there's definitely some prevalent bigotry here.

  • Yeh it's 50/50 NOW, & the attrition is what's happenned to those that came BEFORE. What's not said is wether attrition is going down NOW. Fact is there's now more female graduates than male, so simple weight in numbers will end up with women taking a more prominent role everywhere.

  • @TheKlink We have more female graduates than male, however women are more likely to sacrifice their career for their children, working less hours and taking less demanding roles because of the social position of women as mothers. Even if a woman has no children, social expectations stereotype her and people assume that because she is female she will not be able to dedicate as much time to her work.

  • @TheTempleofNature

That's already changing, not least because men are struggling to step up & women are struggling to find partners that they find suitable. Marriages & first births are happenning later & later. I don't understand why its not happenning faster, and all I can point to is that women just don't set up on their own. Get more women running their own businesses (& KEEPING THEM when they get past SME stage) & owning their own property & the rest will follow.

  • @TheKlink Too many women become dependent on the state and too many men fail to take responsibility for their children.

  • @TheTempleofNature

    Well that's a given.

  • Joy Rules!!!!

  • SFTU you guys sounds fuckin stupid

  • THE ANSWER: Women have the babies and care more about them. Its not a problem, its just the truth. THE END. ...PS: I am a female PhD student...

  • @sixpencegecko It's very sexist to assume that women care more about their children then men.

  • @sixpencegecko It's far too complicated to assume women care more for their babies b/c of all the variables in them. If you tell a biologist this they will say "of course! it's a genetic attribute- the woman spent the time making the baby". But if you ask a psychologist, they will say "it's based on the compassion of each individual human & has no gender bias." Maybe you've studied it far more extensively than me, but at first glance I'm surprised any PhD student would come to such a conclusion.

  • @CatFlashBlue There are various groups of humans in the world where men take on the care giving/parenting role while women go out to work, proving that the gender roles are not genetic but social constructs.

  • @TheTempleofNature Absolutely, and in many ancient beginning civilizations, particularly hunter-gatherers, the female was the queen bee and the men were there for reproduction and protection. In nature, it started out where the woman had the "upper hand" just because their job was so mother-muffin difficult and important.

  • @CatFlashBlue "mother-muffin" I like that phrase :)

  • Some of the comments on this video are pretty terrifyingly sexist.

  • >>cont. Really lame when all men are held accountable cause a couple quota chicks can't cut the mustard. whine about equality, then when you can't pass the single standard start blaming everyone else (i.e men) unbe- fucking-lievable.

  • >>(con't) never mind their work- they are the wrong gender. This probably also goes some way to explaining the attrition levels she speaks of later among the females. disappointing to hear this kind of tripe and "received wisdom" from a researcher of Dr. Hirsch's caliber REALLY LAME

  • nice conclusion- but her reasoning is pretty much just unadulterated bullshit. Depressing, to hear the "ubiquitous, dark, and amorphous, let's-keep- women-down conspiracy theory crap from Dr. Hirsch. the dark side of academia is a bunch of snots stealing each others ideas. thinking women would be immune is as ridiculous as their conspiracy theory . too bad she says nothing of the students who are "gender normed" out of doctoral programs cause the university needs 2 more chicks for their quota >>

  • Even if it's more difficult, that doesn't mean it's discrimination or even a problem. that's the major misunderstanding, although she generally seems to have a good attitude about it all.

  • the problem is that they aren't qualified for the work and will never be. you can only do as much as nature allows you. congrats to the few women who are smart enough, but most of your gender is stupid. all you do is take jobs from qualified men.

  • @baphomet58 I don't think they have to be stupid in intellectual sense. I think most of them just don't think they can take a "male job." What a bunch of losers if I'm even half right. My wild guess is that the ignorance is a much bigger factor than actual stupidity.

If I was a woman and I saw the feminists right now for the first time ever, I would give up all hope for myself if I considered the feminists to be the best of my kind. Those "people" are more masculine than most men!

  • The Force is strong with this one.

  • Men, women, who gives a shit? Just do your science.

  • So she has basically stated what everyone goes through, and maade out it only happens to women. Yep sexism is the problem not that some people always need an excuse.

  • I don't understand why this video has so many dislikes. This woman is speaking the truth. There IS sexism in sciences. Don't you like hearing the truth? I am a man btw.

  • "Discrimination" is the wrong word.

  • THE FIRST RULE OF THE GLASS CEILING IS YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT THE GLASS CEILING

  • @basmithtx The "Glass Ceiling" is not the issue here, it's the lack of a ladder. And I'm not talking about Women, I mean almost everyone who has been tripped or hindered in their lives by bureaucratic bullshit and social stigmas.

  • @basmithtx --- I never got promoted in the greenhouse business because I kept hitting the glass ceiling...

  • @basmithtx Are you serious? The only way to get rid of discrimination against women in the workplace is to TALK ABOUT IT! What an ignorant thing to say.

  • @m8m9k It was humor, friend.

  • @basmithtx thought-terminating naked truth.

  • Basically this is what the whole video added up to. "Women need to learn to stop being such pussies, and do what they need to do."

  • @rogueremis Yeah...

  • The title of this video made me not watch the video for more than 1 minute.

  • There was a woman in my chemistry lab... well... we soon got rid of her, didn't we now!

  • Maybe its just a coincidence that there aren't as many women as men? But discrimination is totally wrong, but im not sure thats the true undelying cause.

  • @EpicGolfTime It's just one of those trends that has stemmed from Christian-dominated culture in the West, which hasn't permitted women in the hierarchy: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent." (Timothy 2:12). The same effect can be seen with gays and marriage, or atheists and politics. Without rights or social acceptance/equality, persecuted or suppressed groups of people don't perform as well as those with freedom and support.

  • i used to be at the top of my field, but then i took an arrow in the knee...

  • @humptydance1 Fuck.... ya its impossible to come back from that... your ligaments are dead : (... Poor you ><!

  • I'm not going to watch this video. If the woman's first assumption is "even if you're a woman", man, that's kind of a self-defeating way to start out, and a victim-oriented way at that. Stop being a victim. It only makes life harder to deal with. Then again, you could always use gov't. Oh right - we HAVE been.

  • @SomethingSea1 Fuck yeah. :) Attitude & Mind-set > gender.

  • I love Joy's smile. I bet her laugh sounds like music.

  • she made it to the top by taking so much pot she floated there

  • she looks high? am i the only one?

  • @natuankur You do realize that her IQ is probably 50 points higher than you and achieved much more, right?

  • anyone else think she looks like a drug addict....meth to be precise....:P

  • bullshit, there are no gender diference in science. The only simple fact is that there are male scientists

  • I would like to see the title changed. "Even if You're a Woman in Science" is an awful way to word this. Like being a woman in science is some sort of dubious, hard to believe, statement. How about something like, "How to make it to the top of your field as a woman in science".

  • @rylraven13 actually it is proven woman are more emotional than male. Therefore it for woman it is harder to "hold yourself in hands". That means, male will on average master theyr brains better and faster, because they are not as emotional.

  • @Dzintra681 That does not come without a cost. Men can be just as emotional as women, and women just as brash and logical as men.

Did you know that you can be well-adjusted in society... even if you're a man?

  • @SomethingSea1 I sed men are on AVERAGE less emotional than woman and that is fact, you cant argue with it. aceept defeat

  • @Dzintra681

"it is proven woman are more emotional than male."

Maybe you could have put that in your starting sentence.

    "aceept defeat"

You're silly. I can be silly too. I don't feel like it right now, though. Wait! Are you a woman? On average, are you silly? Oh, I know I'm being silly here. It's because I'm a woman.

Better grammar, get. No, mocking Yoda is not an example of bad grandma. But mocking you, is.

  • @SomethingSea1 you dont mock me. By failing to prove I am wrong, you make it clear I am right. On average females are more emotional. Being emotional is bad thing. The less emotional person is, the more logical person MIGHT be.

  • @Dzintra681

Ok, you can't understand subtlety. I agree that men and women are average this and that. Your grammar makes it very hard for people to see the points you're making. That's what I'm trying to show you. Hopefully you see this. I partially expect you to keep ranting, and if that's the case, bye.

  • @Dzintra681

I should read your full statement before I reply.

"Being emotional is bad thing. The less emotional person is, the more logical person MIGHT be."

Being emotional is bad? Why are you commenting? Why are you getting irritated? Why aren't you acting more like an emotionless robot? Eh? You're being bad by your own standard. Logic is dependent on emotion. Without emotion, logic has no direction to go in. You show this quite well. You're very emotional about not being emotional.

  • @SomethingSea1 you again failed to understand simple symbols called letters. The less emotional person is, the better. less emotional. LESS. person cant be without emotions at all. simply one person can be less emotional comparing with other and females are more emotional on average than males.

"Without emotion, logic has no direction to go in" that is bullshit. logic does not require emotions. every1 know that. you dont need emotions to be logical. you made no sense

  • @Dzintra681

That is correct. You don't need emotions to be logical. Computers are purely logical. So are robots. Data in Star Trek has no ability to feel emotion. And yet, he quests for it. A tad ironic, at the least.

"The less emotional person is, the better." How so?

So, why are we talking? What is your reason for being here on YT in the comment section?

  • @SomethingSea1 you are rando person, I will not inform you about my reasons.

The more emotional person is, the higher chance that she will act accordingly with emotions, not common sense, therefore the less emotional person is, the better.

  • @Dzintra681

"you are rando person, I will not inform you about my reasons."

What's "rando"? Random? Why will you not inform me of your reasons? Give me a logical explanation of why not.

"The more emotional person is, the higher chance that she will act accordingly with emotions, not common sense, therefore the less emotional person is, the better."

... You need to work on the veracity of your definitions. There are too many questions to ask about this, so I won't bother yet.

  • @SomethingSea1 if person sed, that he will not inform about his reasons, asking "why" is illogical becase answer on question "why" will all so be answer on original question.

I can give so many examples from life. When emotions tells you one thing and logic tell another. You should be able to understand this yourself.

  • You're saying that asking why is illogical because it results with "why". So, you're saying that you can't answer the question because you don't know why you're doing this on YouTube. I'd be scared if I didn't know why I was doing stuff. I have concise reasons for just about all of my actions. At the basic of all my actions is emotion. The same is the case with you. "Why?" is unanswerable because it is not logical. It is emotional. Trying to get rid of emotion is to rid yourself of life.

  • "I can give so many examples from life. When emotions tells you one thing and logic tell another. You should be able to understand this yourself."

The only time that logic has told me one thing and emotion another was when I was religious. Religion is anti-reason, and you need both reason and emotion. With just emotion, you're spread too thin. With just logic, you might as well kill yourself.

  • i hope some day these kinds of communication devices are shunned (blaming others to advance one's personal cause). enough already! women have already advantaged themselves greatly: more women than men attend college and are graduating with much larger numbers. women have much greater jobs prospects today and in the future. it is time for guys to say, "just do your job and allow those results to communicate your authority and position" and no more of this conniving to soften up others to ..

  • Having a career in a male "dominated" filed has provided me some insight into this topic. Those women I've met who had exceptional performance and leadership ability often ostracized themselves with peers. This happened by referencing often how difficult it was to be a woman in this field. Implying that male efforts were somehow less as peers and her efforts surpassed ours to meet the same positions. I've often found these conversations insulting.

  • science isnt sexist, the women dont put as much effort in as the men, hence they dont perform well enough.

feminist propaganda much? work harder earn more, its that simple

  • She looks high

  • @cuishi14 She does not look high. She looks like a happy woman who is filled with lots of joy and peace.

  • @ILoveBritneyBoykin exactly the definition of high

  • So whose fault is it??? The society? the male scientists? Of all the places that I have worked, women are always recognized for their work and effort that they put in. Unless of course you are a lazy POS (of which there are many by the way). Stop the crying and whine, men have to work just as hard if not harder to become leaders in their field.

  • @po3aj - i have to say that i agree. recognition everywhere. as these kinds of videos, articles etc never seem to end, i have to think it is just a ploy or mechanism to "win" or fight. some people can win by doing better, being better and working harder. and then there are the others that need the competition to do worse. these kinds of videos belong to those efforts to get those around them to soften up, slow down and act less aggressively. it's disgusting how effective it can be!

  • stating the problem and indirectly answering it in a 4 minute video. not bad.

  • I'm drunk, right now. This woman, in the thumbnail looks tired.

  • lets KICK ASS ladies!!

  • I think, based on my own observations, that women who have a less "Feminine" appearance tend to achieve more in male dominated fields because she is seen more as "one of the guys" rather than that pretty girl everyone wants to go out with. When a woman is physically attractive it causes unwanted feelings in many men, particularly the dreaded "Performance Anxiety" in where men feel like they must prove their manhood. This anxiety is lessened or doesn't exist around a more "butchy looking" woman.

  • Also women who give off a "motherly" appearance don't cause as much friction when they are among men because she is not directly perceived as a competitor but rather as a mentor. The main reason I have observed as to why men would consciously (or subconsciously) weed out women from among them is when they are seen as threats or as causers of anxiety or insecurity. You also have to keep in mind that a competitor is a competitor no matter what their gender is. So don't "boo-hoo" if you lose.

  • @xm377Moyocoyatzin Don't think you'll get used to this "pretty girl." I can't see this performance anxiety affecting someone indefinitely.

  • because there are more smart men, that is part of it

  • @Xavier7564 the way you phrase this sounds kind of "men are smarter"...

i want to clarify a thing for those who may take offense to your comment, the average iq of men and women is about the same, but men tend to have a more variable iq, hence "there are more smart men" and not "men are smarter". i hope the person who left this comment meant this...

  • @henkjansmazaag Don't worry I do

  • @Xavier7564 good, might be better to clarify that the next time, or else you might get some heat for the misinterpretation. :P

  • @henkjansmazaag I do mean that

  • I wonder if she has children ? Could it be that the women have had children and missed out of their continuity of promotion.....

  • wasted my time on something i already know.. zzZZz

  • Anyone think the title: "Even if Your're a Woman in Science" sounds hideous?

  • @avion106 I think its awful but I know from quite a lot of statistics and women in science that getting to the top in science as a woman is extremely hard because of discrimination.

  • @avion106 True dat. What does "even if you're a woman in science" means? Kinda like pleading for attention. Aren't we supposed to be equal? And no boobs at all! This is outrageous!

  • @avion106 THANK YOU! This title is AWFUL

  • @avion106 no

  • @rajest624 I wish I could explain my views but the downside is that YouTube is transparent enough for me to see that your "name" on your channel is Cunty Kicker. I rest my case...

  • @avion106 I wish I could explain my views but the downside is that you assume too much of one's profile, of which is meant to be taken with zero seriousness. If you do so desire to be ignorant enough as to think that I am some kind of anti-woman person then do so at your own folly. I asked multiple female and male friends of mine and they all agree - there's nothing wrong with the title.

  • @rajest624 Your first point is obviously not true. But fair enough ... you have a voice. Did your friends answer specifically why they didn't find anything wrong with the title? It is a consensus that the title is ambiguous.

  • @avion106 One did, she said that it shows how little people think of a woman and that it may be surprising to some that they are capable of anything.

  • @avion106 My Entire career is built on being critical of feminist theory..... even I cringed when I read it >.<

  • I'd tap that

  • a little bit more vulnerable

  • 9 people out of 19 disliked this video? Wow, congratulations for being mentally challenged sexists.

  • @filo892424

    your logic is limited

  • No hesitation...yet she hesitates for 3 seconds before she says what she wanted to say.

    ASTF.TK

  • It is actually quite simple, but difficult in real life and almost impossible if you are not really interested.

  • First and foremost, many women have to learn to change their focus on how others look at them, but focus on the things they are working on right now. Only then they will gain Excellency in a field and maybe even recognition. Don’t do it for the recognition, do it because you are interested, and do it great. Start working on a network with people that are interested in what you are interested in and keep producing great work.

  • Joy Hirsch: it has to do with focus. Many women I see fail in the business world because they do not put the subject matter at the first level, but how they are regarded and perceived as a person by their peers. Many women are distracted by how they look and how they are going to live a life.

  • You can start by not demeaning yourself with such a poorly thought out video title ` Even if you`re only a woman ` yeah yeah yeah,I know why.

    You are the woman.

    You are that person.

    You deserve that post.

Perhaps a little more arrogance would help your plight, its helped MANY others.

    Good luck

  • "Just go do it."

Yes, that's good advice. Stop bitching and just go do it. Quit blaming others and just go do it. The truth is, what many feminists see as discrimination is just a result of women making different choices in life than men. Feminists are obsessed with blaming others for the choices women make that don't add to their paycheck.

  • @JackofOneTrade567

You are absolutely right. Men and women make different choices. And it turns out; men make some crucial choices because they have to. Women can make crucial choices about a job and interests, but they don't have to.

A women realizing, that it is easy to live a life on dependency, but though to actually make a living on your own, will achieve a lot more than those women waiting and hunting for Mr. Perfect. Men cannot wait; they have to act, as should women.

  • she looks like shit

  • @kippetthegreat even so might be, your oppinion is quite inrelevant, so stfu

  • @kippetthegreat

    Well, she's kinda beatiful.

  • @jameat3r don't waste your time, some fools can only focus on looks rather than what some have to say. And i agree

  • Even if you a Woman in science?<<<isn't the title of this video a little....idk....sexist?

  • @altonnukemshouse A tad lol

  • @altonnukemshouse No, it's addressing the sexism that already exists. Pretending like it isn't there doesn't do much to change things.

  • Comment removed

  • @altonnukemshouse Yes I think so.

  • Google Edge: THE SCIENCE OF GENDER AND SCIENCE PINKER VS. SPELKE A DEBATE. Both Pinker and Spelke make their case. In my opinion, Pinker wins, but just slightly.

  • She has such a lovely voice and smile :) This video actually made me happy

  • What happened to all the women? Why are not as many women in the tenure level, in the hard sciences? They have babies. That and those who get tenure are the BEST at what they do, and the best individual, in terms of raw ability, for "X" will be a man. The best mathematician will be male; not because of socialization practices, but because the male population is more skewed biologically at the tail ends of the distribution. The best of the best are male, but the worst of the worst are also male.

  • Taking care of brains at day, taking care of the kitchen at night. The perfect woman!

  • behind every successful man there is a woman
