She's an absolute moron, one of the worst characters ever written in any movie, and I was practically screaming at the screen (SPOILER) when she was the only one to make it out alive.

As much as it pained me to do so, I'm not the kind of person who gets up and walks out on a bad movie. There's always a chance that it will turn itself around, but the Hitcher remake, for me, wasn't one of those movies.

I've always wondered about the Hitcher's back story. I know that the mystery of why he just randomly hunts people down adds to the thrill but my guess was that he was a special agent of the military used in a covert mission. Something went wrong and he snapped, forcing the government to erase his identity (an explanation as to why he doesn't have fingerprints on file etc.). I always thought of a military background seeing as he knows how to use a sniper rifle with precision and sneak around.
