Car is going up for sale here next week! Was going to ask $32,000 OBO, Car still books for $28,500 and has about $12,000 invested with all mods and extras. List with all options was $40,500.
@SubieDoo408ish Nope....They are custom made by me, they are much bigger and made from 1/4 inch rubber. The fronts wrap almost into the lower control arm mount to protect under cornering.
@SubieDoo408ish I'm going to re-make them outta some flexible plastic cause the rubbber tends to fold back under high load in larger gravel. They work great for small gravel and mud at cruising speed though.
Just got the car tuned again, made much better numbers on pump gas 377hp/373tq @20 psi, 2 psi less than before. Didn't get tuned to E85 since my fuel delivery still can't handle it completely...probably would make way more power now though. Differences was only header wrap, uppipe wrap, and turbo blanket. Last time the car was heatsoaking so bad the intake temp was up to 150 at times and turbo was spooling slow and car dyno'd poorly.
Just top end with Cosworth Pistons...Bottom end is stock. IDK why that was put on there? It was pretty fresh though I had a new Short Block put in @ 8,000 miles because of a ringland warranty and then I put pistons in myself after another ringland failure @ 16,000 and denied warranty. My turbo kit showed up the day after my pistons blew, good timing I guess:)
The turbo kit with FMIC was $5500 all powder coated and I probably have $2000 into the motor with: TGV deletes, injectors, fuel rails, pistons, gaskets, fuel pump, head studs, ect... I did all the labor myself and later on installed more parts such as header wrap, crawford air/oil separator, fuel regulator. Probably missing a bunch of stuff, but thats a rough estimate.
@brewcrew608 Just replacing the injectors to run the juice is a short term high. Alcohol is corrosive so the entire fuel system needs to be modified including the fuel tank to prevent long term erosion not to mention that sodium filled exhaust valves don't seem to like ethanol based fuel as I have noticed several engines lately with split valves although this may just be a coincidence. M/W is more like an octane booster that is used only when needed, and doesn't require mods to the fuel system.
@brewcrew608 E85 does burn cooler and costs less than regular gasoline per gallon. Economy is lower because of lower BTU so more fuel is needed to make the same power. 91 fuel will yield close to 400 miles to a tank where E85 will be about 300 which eve...ns the cost. A road trip would be difficult with E85 since not all stations carry the juice. In short, E85 is a new fad like sniffing glue or huffing gold paint till the long term effects start showing up.
@brewcrew608 Really because my friend ran e85 for the last year in his STi and it fucked it all up. I saw it with my own eyes, it will happen no doubt.
@getalife04 i ran e85 for over a year in my 04 wrx with no problems, my friend with a ej257 swapped GC has been running it for almost 3 years now with no ill effects...
@twincamcoupe Has he pulled is motor apart recently? Sodium filled exhaust valves tend not to work well with e85. Also like I said if your friend did it RIGHT and swapped out everything he should have then no he wouldn't have problems. You just have to worry about the valves if everything else is done right.
@getalife04 What exactly is the E85 doing to the valves? sounds like they are burning from not running enough timing with the higher octane E85. Not running enough timing with E85 could cause the valves to burn because the fuel is still trying to burn as it exits the cylinder. Cracked or burned valves sounds more like poor tuning.
@364seehorn From what I have seen so far isn't that they are getting burned up but getting a shit load of nasty junk built up on them. Almost like it's running on diesel or something. The tune was great and it was on a built motor making 550whp. For me I would much rather go with pump gas + meth but that's just me.
@getalife04 Nasty junk from ethanol? Sounds like the motor might have a lot of blow by going through it....which would surprise me making 550hp. Ethanol burns way cleaner than gasoline, so I doubt its the culprit of any carbon build up. I recently had my engine apart after having ran E85 off and on and all I found was some common carbon build up on the combustion side of the valves, piston and head....nothing extraordinary.
@364seehorn I know and that was the weird thing about it. I don't know why it built up that way but there isn't any blow by. We cleaned the motor up and moved it back to 91 octane with meth and it's not only making more power but way better economy.
@getalife04 fuel pump and injectors. recently rebuilt the bottom end, top end looks amazing. he also had a 75 bmw 2002 which he rejetted for e85 and ran it over 2 years on e85 with the original fuel lines and tank. no problems.
Tuning a subaru with e85 and not redoing the whole fuel system is a bad idea. It will erode the gas tank and the metal fuel lines. Mark my words eventually this will become a major problem.
3076r w/ .82 housing and yes it ran out of injector. Tim had to taper boost down to keep the tune happy. It was heat soaking real bad on the dyno and it was spooling real late...on pump it seemed to be making 20hp less than it did the first tune we did when it wasn't heat soaking the intake so bad. With bigger inj and better header wrap job it should make 450 to the wheels on E85
I too wondered why they only gained 18 hp but then I looked at the boost and injectors. They are probably limited by the injectors, IDC's are probably pretty high as is.
@99STM the boost is at 24 psi max, if they tuned it to a higher psi lets say 27, power increase would be way better, the guy wants a conservative tune im assuming..
@luisrosil Yeah, I actually have the car back with the stock header and I do love the deep twin or V8 sound. I get a lot people that say it sounds like a V8 too. But it sounds good with the EL header on it too...sounds way better in person than on the video.
i just got a 2011 wrx. im looking for 325-350 whp. i don't know much about tunning or what to installed to get those numbers. can any help me out. i want power but i also want some reliability. also how about suspension wise. im willing to give up some comfort but i dont want my back to be braking.
It is kinda low, ran out of injector. Tim had to taper boost down to keep the tune happy. It was heat soaking real bad on the dyno, it was spooling real late. I think it's because we left the engine tray on and I hadn't wrapped the header yet. He said the intake temp was up to 170 at times!
It didn't even move at top speed.

Cretin17 4 months ago
@Cretin17 Maybe an equal length header was involved? That usually lessens the "boxer" rumble.

@3njoi1t I'm gonna agree on that statement. Sounds too straight through to be a UEL setup.
CHRIS454 3 months ago
@Cretin17 Perrin equal length header, P&L uppipe, catless downpipe, and P&L Quad tip Catback.
