  • Yes Nishihira Kosei sensei was a student of Soken sensei for many years. There are a few original sensei left such as my teacher that trained directly with Soken sensei. Unfortunately those sensei are few and far between.

  • Nishihara is of the Soken lineage.

  • Oh and as a repeat this is not Nishihara Kosei sensei but one of his students. I wish "goodbudo" would either change the title and spell his name correctly or just take the video down altogether. Permission should be granted (or at least asked for) to post videos.

  • It does look like a version of it. It is similar to my version of Passai Dai from Akamine sensei of the Soken sensei lineage.

  • The only kata shown here was Passai Sho and Chinto

  • @houseoflightkarate the Passai looks like Passai Dai

  • what katas are there? i recognize the Chinto? Is it true? But the two others?

  • Toma sensei has a couple of students. He was at my sensei's dojo for a party and demonstration of our karate.

  • oops my last post was for wrightaboutit. Whom did you mean does not have students? Nishihira is deceased and Toma sensei is very much alive as of last Thursday night. when I met him.

  • @imperialcrane I have not seen Toma Sensei since Nishihira Sensei passed. If he's picked up students I'm pleased to hear that.

  • This is not Nishihira Kosei sensei. It possibly could be Toma Isao sensei, one of Nishihira sensei's students.

  • Thanks for posting. That's refreshing.

  • I know this is old school but where is the timing and the strong stances that I was force to do?

  • @Kinghercules depends on what tradition your talking about, if you trained in an Okinawan Dojo( read not sport) then the Kata will look more like this, if you trained in a Sport Dojo....then you have the dramatic pauses and some posing

  • @Kinghercules - What Funakoshi taught the Japanese was totally different from what he himself practiced. I would bet he looked similar to this.

  • That's right. The "Nishihara" they are talking about is Nishihira and he is from Nishihara village in Okinawa.

  • @uminchu7th - So this is not Kosei Nishihira? :'(

I've only heard of him but never seen him. So who is this gentleman?

  • @uminchu7th - is this Master Soken's Nephew? I read that he had a nephew named Nishihara and that he regarded him a good teacher. Either way, I love this practitioners expression of the kata. It is excellent.

  • @Koryuhoka No, it is not.

  • @wrightaboutit - so, do you know who it is?

  • @Koryuhoka Yes. He does not have students.

  • This is not Nishihira Sensei. (Also, note the misspelling in the title and the video.)

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!! This is a real treasure! It's my first time seeing Nishihira Sensei. His kata is supreme.
