  • How much would that costs? My vaio doesnt find the operating system, how much do you think it would cost to buy and install a new HDD and de OS?

  • Sony crap!...why are other laptops so much easier?

  • Great Video.

However, this is the worst design for a laptop ever.

  • utube video freezes up.... unfortunately

  • Instead of locking the laptop, sony decided to just put a lot of screws to deter people from opening it.

  • WHERE CAN I BUY NEW HARD DRIVE? CHEAPEST BUT GOOD QUALITY?

  • @ladyfoiegras amazon.com

  • Be a good example to the public: use proper ESD protection techniques. At least use a wrist strap.

  • good luck getting that back together

  • hey man, can a Harddisk of sony vaio VGN- FW31J be changed as this video? I have not ever open a notebook before. Thanks

  • hello

i need the full video can send it to me

  • this bloke is late fr his funeral or summat.

  • Do you HAVE to use a sony vaio harddrive, or will any laptop harddrive work?

  • hey mate i have a vaio VGN-FW31ZJ,i want to change hard drive and ram,if i do that will i lose my warranty?

  • Could someone list the implements used in this video, there seems to be a lot of different types of screw drivers and instruments, Cheers

  • all this just for a hard disk?????? wow....good vid tho

  • wow, this is easy.

  • Thanks for posting this. The screws under the keyboard had me baffled until I watched your video. Yea, Dell's are a lot easier!

  • I think its difficult

  • Great video but gets stuck when undoing keyboard.

  • damn the most important thing froze up...only the keyboard ribbon has a clip to hold it up.the rest of the ribbon is just pull and put back...hope you re uplaod the video for the other users to get it easily....

  • GREAT! Thanks for taking the trouble to make this vid. It's guys like you, giving total strangers a helping hand, who make the world a decent place.

  • Hey how did u take the keyboard off completely?

  • dam u hav to take apart the whole thing

mine (fj270) just has a separate small gate (2 screws to remove) for the hdd and another small gate (1 screw) for the ram

  • i got an older vaio. i just have to unscrew 5 or 6 screws and lift off the bottom part where the mouse is. the mouse part is separaate from the keyboard part and above. i just then unscrew 1 screw that secures the hard drive on the bottom left corner and unplug the cable. i take the metal casing of the drive and put that on the new one, then plug it in and replace the screws

  • Lucky me, the VAIO used in this video is the exact one I have.

I wanted to upgrade the RAM located under the keyboard, but the instructions in the user manual were incorrect.

It showed which two screws to remove, but not the location of the catches on the kb.

Sony wanted to charge me $20 for a 30 second job.

That's all it took once the video showed me where the catches were holding the kb down.

To bad about the video freezing. I may need that info later, if I decide to replace the hard drive.

  • It would be helpful if I knew what was going on during the freeze... (after the keyboard and 2 screws under keyboard are removed. Any help? I removed the screws, the keyboard. Something's hanging near the the buttons. Hope I get a response soon :-)

    Otherwise its been helpful.

  • After removing keyboard & ribbon, then 2 more screws, then 2 more ribbons (track pad & something else) there was no other apparent connection. But the panel was hanging back near the lcd/buttons. It turns out that what holds the top cover are several plastic clips/catches near the back. It took much care & gentleness but the top was finally worked free.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Always remove the battery before you make any hardware changes

  • the video freezes from 2:55 to 4:22. what the heck?

  • is that a 1.8" drive?

  • what size are those hdd? and are those seagate?

  • What kind of screws are used in Sony Vaio laptops? Regular Philip screws or Torx?

  • why does this freeze on the part i NEED the most!!!

  • what part do you need

  • bit after screws are removed under keyboard - how the hell is the rest of the cover attatched - i cant get it off and its not mine to break!! arrrr

  • @gjlma Do you need a disc to format you're laptop once it's installed?

  • Murphy's Law, sorry about that.

  • very hard to replace!!

  • What a load of friggin around. Surely they can engineer a simpler way of replacing the hd?

  • Sony's need more screws and less Ram-and

they need to raise their prices, and more delicate pieces and clips-and more brilliant ideas like-not including recovery discs!!

  • i wil leave it o the pros mate good vid tho

  • Good video, my up key broke off my keyboard, and after seeing the way yours popped off like that, i might have to go out and order myself a new keypad

  • you know , all i did was press the sides and pop out the keyboard... its right there lol sorry you had to go through all that

    '

  • are you talking about the ram?

  • that is ridiculous, i get to do this shit tonight

  • Does anyone know what is the maximum hard drive capcity for a Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP as I'm considering of upgrading from a 60GB to either a 120GB, 160GB or 250GB?

  • I know of no SATA laptop that has a hdd size limitation.

  • Ive never heard of an hdd limit i have a desktop that has 3 terrabytes in it. your thinking of a RAM limit

  • Now that i think of it, some laptops do not have enough physical height clearance to accomodate the largest hdd's on the market today.

  • hi does anyone have a touchpad ribbon for this laptop i am stuch with a broken one.

  • lol, mine just slides out of the side...

  • lol ar605e for FTW

  • thanks a lot,i was terrified about replacing my recently burned 100 gb sata hdd in a vaio vgn-a497xp

  • replace the memory while u r in there!!

  • This is why I dislike Sony... Thats far to complex to replace a harddrive..

  • gotta be a pain to putem all back in my vaio only has 4 screws

  • hey man,

Thanks a lot. Looking all over the web to find this procedure.

  • hey, I had to replace my hard drive for my A-190, and your video helped a lot. Thanks a lot.

oh, and I don't I was paying close enough attention screwing it back on, cuz i have left over screws D:

  • Now thats why I hate the sony vios they suck it's too

hard to work on them. I fix computers and I would have

charged you a hight price to do that. sony is no good

when it come to computers. I agree with (juanpablo2usa) get a mac.

  • duh.. get a mac... it's sooooo much easier.. only 3 screws.

  • i dont know what your talking about man, my PC notebook only has 2 screws......sooooooo much easier than a mac.

Haha I'm just messing with ya, don't take it seriously.

  • i think it needs more screws... lol : )

  • wow thats alot of screws for just that all i have to do with my laptop is just remove 1 just one screw and the hard drive slides out and there im done but you your hands must hurt hahahahha

  • dude WTF is up with all them screws

  • dunno but im sure the industrial engineer makes north of 250k per year! over 20 screws on the bottom alone. all need to be pulled to get the top plate off.
