@sight19 it is humane to shoot the animal when it is injured sick and dying its better to put it out of its misery then for it to wait for the vet. Example my neighbor use to have a hamster that was very sick and she coudent take it to the vet so she fed it some posion and it dyed in 2 minutes that posion is almost exactly the same thing that they put animals down. If that was me i would shoot the horse then let it suffer the horse dose not feel pain

what!?!?!? caleb shot the horse!!! I understand he was suffering, and i hate to see horses suffer but I also hate to see horses BEEING SHOT AT!

I'm proud of Caleb. He did the right thing. The horse was barley beathing. If I were the horse I would be grateful to be put out of my misery. I love horses and couldn't stand to see one suffer.

@TurnsandBurns I would have called the vet and asked that the horse be sedated then put down. People are hicks if they believe a gunshot is the best way to kill an injuried animal.

@Sight19 i am sorry to get into this but when a horse(or any animal) has been suffering like that for gosh knows how long without food or water is when you do that and also if help is 1 hour or more away...

@Sight19 no, you are not getting my point.if the horse has been suffering for that long and can't wait anymore is when you do that!if you listen closely caleb says that the horse is bearly breathing,that should give you a clue that the animal can't wait any longer!!!!!and BOTH horses have bad infections!!! that is when you do that...and amy was on the phone with the vet when caleb shot the horse so amy was trying to save both horses!!!!!!Have A Nice Day:)

That gunshot scared the crap outta me!! I know I was soooo sad when Caleb shot the horse, but it was the best thing. The couldn't wait for Scott to come and put him down humanely and letting it die naturally is cruel. Caleb was being merciful

If the person with the gun knows how to properly kill the horse (not like the idiots who tried to kill Trooper), then bullet euthanasia is perfectly humane. There's nothing "hickish" about being kind, they weren't shooting it for fun. I'd much rather see a horse get shot (properly) than suffer or be sent to slaughter. And Scott was far away so the horse was going to have to lie there and suffer even more than he already had.

@pandorathepansy I don't. Put yourself in the horses position. They see a barrel of steel pointing at their skull and then a bullet. Sometimes it takes hours for the horse to die. Have you watched undercover ASPCA slaughterhouse videos? The horses are panicked, frightened and spooked. I think that on a show like Heartland where they RESCUE neglected and abused horses, they could have shown some humanity and properly put the horse down. And Ty is a vet in training.
