I just saw the Rodriguez documentary at Sundance called 'Searching For Sugar Man'. It's one of the most incredible and inspirational stories I have ever heard. This is the first time that I've ever heard of him or any of his extraordinary music. I can't wait to discover this great unknown artist of the 70's.
I've only heard Rodriguez through my brother's record as I don't think the commercial stations ever picked him up due to his music being so unique as we know manly pop or rock makes it to the telly. When I get my iPod hope to buy his LPs on iTunes. This song means a lot to me, it is around the time when I was right into Riguez music that my life was kind of cut short. It sends me right back, but that's ok it's nice to wonder, don't you?
wow! check out the aussie fans here. i'm 35 now and my mum used to play this all the time when i was little. i've loved this album ever since i rediscovered it in my teens. must have been a big one down under, huh?
amazing album , i discovered when i left the coutnry city I lived in with its very limited radio station in the early 80's went to the big smoke and discovered some real music.
This album must be hardwired into SA culture. I started listening to it in the late 80's, my boet and his friends were listening to it before that. Now I read about people who got hooked on it even before I was born. I remember when it came out on CD everyone I knew bought a copy. I wonder if there is a new generation, people under 30, listening to it now?
@arthurandroid ... Yes Im happy to say that the under 30's are loving this CD.... like my daughters who have been listening to my music from birth, the youngest is now 17yrs and had passed this album between her friends. ..... love it :)
every t ime i listen to this i think of my brother who died and all the good times and he wasent a soldier that died but a big brother at the age of 21 and for that i will always listen to this and think bk for this was beat live on my brother grant sarel smuts
South African living in Norway. Grew up listening to Rodriguez....every time I listen to him reminds me of home and my mom. I'd love to hear him live!
Just saw the man live at the Tivoli in Brisbane this was the opening song was absolutely awesome if you get the chance to see this man live do it, you will regret it if you don't just great Cheers Marita
@blubbiblubblubb ya hes too old to perform. no one really payed attention to him when he was still performing (in US). his biggets fan base was in South Africa XD
First heard this back home in South Africa back in the 70's and was blown away - think I wore the vinyl out playing it so much. Now don't have a deck so thanks for posting - happy memories :)
Saw Rodriguez live for the first time in early November 09 at a benefit for Detroit's Donovan's Pub. Truly a great musician and a very genuine individual.....fyi, I filmed parts of the evening which can be seen on my YouTube Channel.
I introduced this album to a scallop boat crew I worked with in the early 80's down on the Bass Strait, Australia. They absolutely loved it. But after a year of constant playing I could'nt take anymore and threw it overboard one night on watch. Funny how times change, It's now one of my favorite songs to sing.
@benno60 OMG, my brothers use to fish way up north qld for weeks on end in the 1970's and one of them owns this LP - oh well at least you can hear it here, may be hard to find again (not the sea of course lol) but maybe in the odd independent music store - sad there almost gone too now. Music has gone backwards, I don't like the record store chains as they have plastic music - wish we could go back to the old days. I'm 51.
Saw him live in Sydeny in 1980 or 81 Unplugged him with guitar and one other other guitarist. He was incoherent when he tried to speak because he was so out of it but his singing voice was perfect. Was anybody else there and remembers?

@grahamsoar I was back last year just for a visit and I'm glad I grew up there and had the most fantastic youth a person could wish for, but I'm also glad I dont live there any more.
im South african living in Canada now got my first tattoo wile listening to sixto fuck i miss the biker rallies with al the good music and brothers...........
Love it..... he makes me feel all wiggly and happy.......Grew up in SA to the utter genius of Sixto's music...I have Cold Fact and After the Fact..they are still available on CD...
Nice comment chickun 69, i just discovered his music earlier this year and it blew me away that there could be someone with music soo great that i'd never stumbled on? At 29 yrs old i feel like i did as a bright eyed rug rat going thru my dads record collection discovering all those greats...
plus he's playing a show near where i live in LA & i got tickets today soo stoked!
I think that anyone who was living in SA in the mid to late 70s would have great memories of driving around with this music. I bought it on an 8 track for my boyfriend Robert from Greatermans :-)
LIstening to this song reminds me of cruising around in the beautiful zimbabwe sunshine when I was about 2 inches 5..... good zimbabwe times.... nothing can take a way those memories... no dictator... no evil no man... nothing... all those memories will stay with every zimbabwean... or should we say rhodesians for the rest of their lives
Hey fellow africans....;) Know exactly what u guys mean...grew up in Cape Town and remember having beach parties with Rodriguez in the background, awesome lazy summer days and nights...would never be able to completely forget those days...
