  • Even if I didn't possess a music degree, I would place a drill in my ear canal before watching another video from this amateur.

  • @The7J7Gilb That poodle of an ego of yours should be trained NOT to shit on other peoples lawns . Mr "I have a degree in music ".

  • MAGIC.

  • im making the camera work hard to day.. "haha, screw you. Im can zoom out! Fuckaaah! "

  • Dogs....

  • man you can really hear the john mayer style in these chords

  • That guitar sounds beautiful. I have an epiphone faded dot studio, its ok for leads, but I don't get good rhythm tones. Its ok with distortion but I want versatility.

  • 4:44 is when he starts to play with that new chords...

  • it's a good thing you had that fairy dust.

  • Btw, a power cord is only roots and fifth, no third. fail

  • @DesmaraisF Fail? It can't be fail if it sounds right.

  • @TheRailwaystationist It is fail cuse at 0:52 sec. he shows what he named "your standard power chord" witch is not a power chord cuse he play"s the third.

    That's just my point.

So yeah it sounds right and good but it's not a power chord.

  • @DesmaraisF no he says "barr chord"

  • @DesmaraisF you are retarded he never said "Power Chord"

  • I watched 3 seconds of this and you annoyed the fuck out of me.

  • @BOGGLEO you do not understand him idiot!

  • @royalpain35 ha ha - I don't care what you think !

  • @BOGGLEO you idiot stupid nerd........ IDIOT!!!!

  • The part about sweet tea just blew my mind..Awesome.

  • @Barefoot67 chill out adolf

  • tip: don't toke before guitar lessons

  • only half of the chord used in lenny

the lenny chord only mutes your high E... so in G that would be 3-2-2-4-3-X

  • Dude, I gotta get one of those hats. ;)

  • Marty, wussup my brutha? Thanks for the vid.

  • u bhad bub

  • puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That chord was fly like a G6.

  • So how long has you dog been playing?

  • what kind of guitar is that its beautiful !!!! would love to have one

  • @MultiOk1000 it is a "heritage" it is a knock off of a gibson es-335, it is a great guitar, and alot cheaper than a gibson

  • @aw350meman69 I wouldn't consider a Heritage a knock off. Heritage was actually founded by some of the original Gibson luthiers, out of the Kalamazoo plant. That Heritage 335 model goes for about 2500 bucks and if you've ever played one, you'd probably agree it's better than the current Gibson 335s in production.

  • great lesson!! crap british pirate accent.. lol

  • its should be SRV and mayer not mayer and SRV...

  • @TheNightmaresEnd

    should be just SRV, lol

  • "hey today ill be teaching you how to choose different chords in a pattern" this guys a fucktard

  • This guy is so stoned.

  • @dougusername Thats correct and that 5 applies to the rest of the chords too.

  • ....except you need the 5 too for a proper 6 chord so a D6 would be 10 x 9 11 10 x

  • @dougsusername you really don't. and if you are going to omit any note, the 5th would be the first one you should drop.

  • @aaronmackguitar true but tension much? haha it doesn't matter that much tough as long as it sounds good man.

  • what's god's favorite chord? Gsus

  • PUPPY!

  • Another bong hit and we might figure out wtf your point is

  • I love these vids Marty! I'd love to see you do more indepth explorations of specific areas of the guitar. I love learning little bits here and there, but all us players would love more detail! Perhaps a method book in your future? Thanks for the lessons!

  • over 2 minutes and 30 seconds to get anywhere near THE POINT... wow... I suppose if I were stoned too, time would just be flyin' by...

  • lika a g6 (chord)

  • biggiebiggie likielikie, MARTIE BIGTIME

  • I was going to feel like a backstabber, because I went to a tutorial then "Martysongz".

I saw Marty, and I came a little.

  • Guy, you are just an idiot.

  • Get to the point ya hethen hooligan bjezz

  • hahahaha like a g 6

  • Marty,

Your chord voicing is close. The Dmaj6 should be 10-x-9-11-10-x

The A on the 2nd string is the 5th of the chord. The spelling for a Maj. 6th chord is 1-3-5-6, a min. 6th chord is the same except with a flat 3rd, spelled 1-b3-5-6

On a side note for anybody interested. You can move the entire shape over one string so the root is on the 5th string in order to form min6 chords. Ex. Dmin6

    is x-5-x-4-6-5

    Cheers,

    h4ck.b0x7

  • @h4ckb0x7 his voicings correct, hes just omitting the 5th, which isnt necessary especially when your playing with other rhythm instruments

  • He reminds me of the dude from Superbad, which is why he f-ing rocks! These guitar videos are the best of their kind on Youtube, very easy to follow and well explained. Ace.

  • @wighty28 McLovin?

  • hahah

  • like a G6

  • ok you had me when the dog played the guitar

dont mean to be a smart arse and you probably know this but im pretty

sure the voicing srv used had the 5 on the second string as well as the notes your playing

  • hahaaha seriously lol am i not the only 1 who thinks marty's always stoned as shit(not that its a bad thing) when he makes these videos haha?

  • hahaaha seriously lol am i not the only 1 who thinks marty's always stoned as shit when he makes these videos haha?

  • Man, I am watching the 4th video of yours in a row and I just found your videos today. Great stuff!

  • i need this guy as a friend, in fact. MOVE IN MARTY!!!!!!

  • app-lick-able

  • Man he should do another one of these!! Like the major chord pattern he always plays

  • I like your hat! Where did you get it?

  • HAHAHA I WANT WHAT THEY'RE SMOKING

  • If every musician took a class in sales the world would not only have amazing music but people would be longing to learn it and spread it to the world. Don't be a tool. Learn the skills to share your gift.

  • @phyma1 hey, that sounds really smart..

  • D6=Everlong by The Foo Fighters

  • you suck... 7 minutes and 12 seconds of my life I can never get back. Id like to thank you for teaching me nothing.

  • @thema6ician its 7 minutes and 14 seconds asshole

  • @colinj362 i used the final 2 seconds to drink arsenic.

  • @thema6ician

    lol, bye.

  • Here's something I've always wondered: D6 = Bm, and Dadd6 = Bm7. Why would you ever notate it as a 6 chord? Is the inversion that important? Because I play wrong inversions all the time.

    Someone help me out here.

  • @jake6346 It is impossible to answer your question(s) without getting too into the music theory, but to put it simply: inversions are important to voice leading and chord spelling is important to your tonic/tonicization.

Additionally to my knowledge D6 and Dadd6 are the same thing, only Dadd6 is not a commonly use standard chord symbol. Thus D6 does not equal Bm because Bm lacks an A. The inversions would be more apparent if you were reading figured bass. Hope that wasn't too convoluted.

  • @AwkworldStudios It's nice of you to try to help, but this smells like bs. I'm familiar with figured bass and in my four years of music theory classes, a "6 chord" always meant a chord in first inversion. That is, a D6 would be a D chord in first inversion (F#, A, D) not (D,F#,B) which would be Bm6. That being said, I don't think anyone trying to replicate a SRV/John Mayer sound is that concerned with 18th century voice leading practices.

  • @jake6346 Are you referring strictly to figured bass, or general chord symbols? There are many different ways of notating chords, but D6 often does equate to a chord featuring these tones: D F# A B. D/F# is one way of indicating first inv. That being said, I've forgotten most of my figured bass theory over the years and don't have much use for it. Most of the books that I've read give C6 as the equivalent of an Am7 chord in 1rst inv. etc. As I said, I'm ref. to gen. chord symbols, not fig. bass

  • @AwkworldStudios ...anyway, now that we agree that Marty is referring to the popular usage of the 6 chord, which has nothing to do with figured bass, tell me this: Why would you ever use a 6 chord instead of a regular 1-3-5 chord in the relative minor? If you're so hung up on the root, you could notate the D6 as Bm/D which is both more clear and more specific. To reiterate, D6 (D,F#,B) = Bm in first inversion, and Dadd6 (D,F#,A,B) = Bm7 in first inversion. SO THE 6 CHORD IS USELESS. No?

  • @jake6346 Dude... The "6 chord" is not useless. what happens if you want to write the tonic chord in a D major key song but you want the D chord to be a Dadd6.. you're gonna write Bm7/D?

and a D6 doesn't mean 1st inversion... but yeah, every 6 chord happen to be an inversion of a minor 7th/ minor 7th, b5, in case of a Dm6 but it's all about the harmonic functions they occupy.

    in the key of C major, a C/E chord is still a " I " chord, as is a C6. but if you wrote a Am7/C that would be a VIm7

  • this guy sucks

  • 0:19 smigoll????

  • Would substituting barre chords with 9ths work as well? instead of substituting them 6ths?

  • youre high as fuck dude

  • "this, eeeeeeer...chord, huhu!" so fuckin' high....I wish I could play in that state, too...

  • hah, the dog blends in with the carpet

  • 420!

  • hey guys check out my vids on my page!

  • Why is it called a 6th chord? is there a B in there? or is it the chord shape?

  • @kenstyle1978 yeah, 9th fret on the D string is the note B, making it D6. The best way to play it imo is (x5446x),

  • my god, you took four and a half minutes to get to how to finger one three note chord. lay off the doobs. lol

hey, i'm teasing....but really...over four minutes to show one chord

  • @Plasmobe Well, it's boring me to, but it's probably the best way of instructing. This way Schwartz will definately get all the beginners on board, and all those who are on a higher level than that will still learn a good lesson, just takes a more time. IMO every instructor should have a safetynet like that

  • Nice. it sounds a bit empty though.

So I tried to grab it some other way. If you can make it, this sounds better (imo):

    D6: 10-14-12-11-10-10.

Try it, they're the same notes. oh wait, the 10th fret on the B-string is a fifth instead of a sixth again... so actually it's a Dmajor -add-6

So if you really want a D6 grab 10-14-12-11-X-10 or just mute the last two strings.

Hope you get what I'm saying...

  • wow I actually found out the notes of D6 are the same notes of a regular Bminor...weird

  • @Dutchown Don't think my fingers can stretch that long :P

  • GREATTTTT!!!! I'm Brazialian player guitar and this chords are amazing to plaYYY... Thakns to TEach thisss

  • Hey Andy..your a fucking dumbass. He is having fun and he is showing how you can use that chord with your progressions. Sure he could spend 10 seconds and say here is a D6.. Gee..I could get that from a chord chart..I want to see shit like this which demonstrates it's usefullness..So go the fuck away cause no one wants to read your dumbass posts.

  • MARTY !!!! u playa u !!

  • MAGIC!!!!! hahahahaha

So true, they must be joking with you all! This is not serious!

  • Marty's lessons are awesome! I've learned a lot of licks, tips and tricks from them. And even though he always do his best to transfer all the characteristic features from the specified category of music, he rarely transfers the characteristic features from some of the specified-music-category's top shots (like John Mayer! Marty obviously tries to meet with Mayer's standards of jokes! Wich makes his lessons even more awesomener!) Thanks Marty!

  • Hey, it' free.

  • Ya marty how dare you have a good and fun time while making free videos to help ppl out!!

  • Marty... you are without a doubt the best teacher i have found in person or online. I'm very happy for you in that you have found your talent and are making it work. Blessings!

  • i don't know why, but i love this man.

    and his hats.

  • Was he one of the "WHAT'S UP" guys from the beer commercials?

  • for some people maybe. It's standard to use the index finger.

Thumb is perfectly fine. More power to you!!!

    Rock on.

  • in Lenny I personally use a 10 x 9 11 10 x and I use my thumb for the root so if you hit the b string then g slowly you get an srv technique he uses throughout the song

  • ap-plickablle lmfao epic

  • I like Marty Schwartz. =D

  • Marty your god... the best teacher on youtube

  • MAGIC

  • lol, phriggin dog

  • "PIXIE DUST!?"

"hyukhyuk yup yup!" ... My favorite.

  • that also is not the chord in lenny. he's muting out one of the notes you need. it goes in between. E-10, A-MUTE, D-9,G-11,B-10. then u just move it from 5th fret to 10th then 2nd then 6th back to 5th

  • this shit is bogus man. he takes forever to show the chord.

  • Man, this guy has a great, great sound. I'd love to jam with him.

  • Nice easy lesson, thank U!

  • I like your tone and your choices note to note. Thanks

  • Jesus just show us the fucking sixth chord.

You drag so much ass in getting to the point, I won't be stopping by here often. Thanks.

  • i fucking agree

  • Wow JaMaph with patience like that your gonna be a great guitar player, innnnnnn abouuuuut 300 years. if you work hard.

You do know you can skip the video forward don't you ?

  • Look, I apologize if my tone of voice is a little "harsh".

But I believe that as a community here at YouTube, we owe it to our peers, and video posters to give them feedback! I regularly praise videos if they are done right, and always make sure to give adequate ratings and comments.

With that said, I think our guitar teacher here is a great guy. I'm also appreciative of the fact he is posting content. However, his video skills need to improve, as well as his lessons. I hope this helps.
