The tragedy in this is not the woman calling Obama an "Arab," and not the woman's hair (she's 75 years old, give her a break). The tragedy is McCain's response: "No, ma'am. He's a decent family man and citizen..." as if to say Arabs don't fit that description. Even if he was an "Arab," so what? "Arab" is not a bad word. It is simply a way of describing a person from a country in which Arabic is an official language. FYI: the second way you pronounced Arab is the correct way to say it.

I think his remarks were unintentionally racist. He wasn't trying to suggest that being Arabic is in someway contrary to being a decent family man. It's just that McCain isn't an eloquent speaker and he gets thrown off very easily.
