@Lobo777x i just got mine and if you get the right amp this thing can play almost anything it seems. ive had no problem playing enter sandman on this guitar if you just tweak the settings right. led zeppelin sounds great too.

i hate how a lot of people don't like epiphone but love squire or ibanez, and they dont realize that epiphone is a direct branch from gibson.

I love it when the neck pickup of a les paul sounds better than a strat's neck pickup. Doesn't happen often, but when it does it really makes me want to buy one- I can't stand the sound of the bridge on a strat. ALWAYS too skinny (unless you have stevie ray vaughan's strat :P)

The third pick-up probably won't help any. If there was a considerable advantage to having a third pick-up then most guitars would probably have one. 2 pick-ups in the right positions will pick up all the harmonics, therefore 3 are probably more for looks lol.

I don't think that the 3rd pickup is useless. I think it is there for a reason and not just for the looks. you don't add a pickup just for the look of the guitar. besides the pickups are not the beauty of the guitar(silver, gold etc.). and i've played a black beauty, and i say that the middle pickup is amazing. the custom and the black beauty aren't too different but i think(my opinion) that the black beauty is better.

And to answer your question: well, I'm not really an expert in guitars, the ones I have are also the ONLY ones I've ever bought and played (because they looked and sounded so beatiful...) So my best advice for your friend is to play them both and buy the one that meets the demands (sound, grip, weight, playability).

I know, it's a kinda boring advice. But a guitar is just a very personal thing. :)

The knowledge is basically the pentatonic blues scale.

The tric is to connect phrases in a natural way, without really thinking over wich one you wanna play. Ideas for phrases come from listening to music. I also sometimes 'discover' a new phrase when I want to try something out and that goes very wrong...mistakes can really sound beautiful!

And: you gotta have the blues once in a while... Because most of all: blues is about 'feeling' the music, not 'hearing' the notes. Enjoy Playing! :)

Then 5th fret/3rd str hammer-on to 7th fret/3rd str slide down to 9th fret/3rd str & hit it twice

Go to 7th fret/ 3rd str bend DOWN & up

End by 10th fret/4th str & 7th fret/4th str

I also sometimes bend UP & down the 7th fret of BOTH the 2nd & the 3rd str & then play both the 5th frets of those strings & hammer on to the 6th fret of the 3rd str.

Just improvise, like I did! ;)

I have a Line6 Spider® II 212 amp with a custom made sound setup, that is a clean tone with about 70% reverb and just a touch of delay. I don't use effect pedals or other extra's.

Thanks for the compliment! I've been playing for a couple of years now, but without real lessons (however, I do know the blues scale and some blues rhytm playing from a book). Just grab my guitar when I'm in the mood and improvise a bit. Therefore it's very nice to know that people like what I play, because for me that's a sign that I'm doing something right! :)

The amp is a Line6 Spider II 212 (the bottom one). Yes those Gibsons...if only they were a bit (or two, no make that three) cheaper... But I can't complain, this beauty does a wonderful job. :)
