Nickelback sucks but their music works really well in trailers for some reason. I still loved Season 3 (phenomenal beginning and end) but there were way too many filler episodes. 1-3 are tolerable, but this season had like 6 or 7. Didn't the SciFi network push the developers into making more standalone episode though?

The characters were the heart and soul of BSG -- the 'stand alone' episodes of season 3 were just what the series needed. Seasons 1-2 and the occupation of New Caprica set the stage for the show, and everything up until Baltar's trial shed light on the characters and what they were dealing with. Rolling into season 4 and the series finale, we can all breathe a sigh of relief that most, if not all, of the characters found resolution.

@aTmOverboard No, the Standalone episodes were terrible. They did nothing for the story. In cases like "Hero," they in fact seriously damaged the continuity of the story. My only wish with this show was that the writers had sat back and developed more Pegasus stories - that would've given them at least another season of stories to tell, then do the New Cap story, that way they could've gotten 5 or 6 seasons instead of four.

@AllTerroristsMustDie I agree about Hero - I really didn't like that episode at all. The ONLY reason to watch it is due to a few important strands being secondary to the main plot. It was a good idea, but it was not strong enough to carry an entire episode. Not to mention, you never see this guy again - ever!

Even 'Black Market' has its selling points (like the fact it shows other sstuff going on in the fleet) but 'Hero' is the weakspot of the entire series for me.

@fanguk2 Agree - Hero could have been epic as a way of introducing Carl Lumbly (a strong actor of his own accord) in as a series regular, bumping heads with the regular cast, but like you say - he just ups and vanishes :/

Whilst I fully understand that maybe introducing another character as a series regular at that stage as it began to steamroll towards its apex, and may have proved problematic due to not having enough time for the characters gradual exposition, it would have been nice to see another one, maybe two, little appearances where you at least get a feel that he's still around.

The decision to use Nickelback was undoubtedly an extension of SCI FI's idiotic decision to FORCE Ronald D. Moore and the BSG writers to do more "standalone" episodes in the post-New Caprica season 3 lineup. Which explains why just about everything after New Caprica and before Baltar's trial was pretty lame. Still, this was the greatest show on television. I enjoy Caprica as well and cannot wait for the eventual prequel about young Adama in the First Cylon War!

But I have to say that one episode I really enjoyed before Baltar's trial was 'A Day in the Life'. We knew that there were days for the crew in between each episode, and what we saw were simply the more significant events. But this episode, as uneventful as it was (save the airlock incident with Tyrol and Cally) was really interesting. It was one of those days 'in between' for the crew, and really just seem to put a realistic spin on things. I guess I just kind of related to it...

Galactica at its absolute best. I think the five New Caprica episodes compose the best story arc in Galactica to date. And this trailer is stunning. I love the Nickelback instrumentation. Amazing.

I remember seeing this preview a couple of years ago. I was a late joiner of the show, and actually became interested in it after I saw that promo. I was hooked on the first episode I saw, and I just can't get away from it. Can't wait for the second half of the 4th season to start in January. BSG ROCKS!!!

it was probably easier for you to catch up. When I started watching, it was just for the action. It was confusing for me at first because I was like cylon? copy? resurrection? wtf?!?!?

but then I really got into the characters and they're entangling lives and the show really pulled me in. Now I own every season on DVD from 1-3 as well as Razor, and I have a reservation for 4.5. I know EVERY detail now.

I like this show a lot, the characters are well written and are very complex. I cannot wait to see how Kara Starbuck returns to the show, she also appears in the new Bionic Woman TV show. Her dead and now seemingly return were very movingly done in the show.

One thing I love about this that most other Sci-fi miss is that BSG focuses on the story, Star Trek and Stargate and all the other "stars" seem to try to see how far can we push the limits of science fiction by cramming as much techno bable into one hour. These are stories and people that feel real, issues that we can relate to and think about (ok, sentient robots may be not so close to reality but it does make us think about what makes us human.) This story will become a classic I'm sure.

That's because BsG is the most realistic Sci-fi show, so they don't have all the technobable to go into; to drive the show, they need strong characters and conflict. If you think about it, the premise of the show--a ship with trying to find earth in space--can only have so many things happen on their journey.
